Puffco Peak

Winning means possibly putting the company out of business which means zero chance of getting your unit fixed if it breaks, the lawyers get paid and everyone in the class gets a pittance in the mail. Only real winners are the lawyers and everybody with an unhealthy hate-on against the owner.
Class action suits suck, but I don't have much sympathy for Puffco. It's a wide open market for someone to come along and do better.

Agreed i also wouldnt want someone to spend what i did on it. My saionara tank + temp control vape mod does the same thing and might even work better tbh....

How do I go about joining this lawsuit? I received a defective atomizer with a brand new unit =/ image in link. http://imgur.com/gallery/QbsuAv3

As you can tell the element is not centered and the glue is bulging out further on one side than the other.
There is no glue in the atomizer. It seems like you may have pushed it off center while cleaning it with a q-tip. I did that to a few atomizers before realizing there’s no need to q-tip inside of the atomizer.

I actually have not cleaned the inside with a q-tip just soaked it in hot alcohol. I take care of my glass, this came broke... I will show you a picture of the yellowish stuff pushed to one side the element also does not move.

Also I rarely use it . It has heated up unevenly since I have owned its, especially with a quartz insert, its like trying to stack bowls inside of each other when they are off centered. Aka doesnt make full contact.

Almost none of the aftermarket atomizers have the edge on the bottom so it actually fits, like the stock bucket.

the only ones that DO are the sneaky pete one, and the new EQ ones. the sneaky pete one was trash and didn't work for me. the stock bucket worked alright for me... I'd just stick with that unless you wanna get the EQ bucket or fiddle around with your lid every time you want a hit.

however, i must say i feel much less enthusiastic about this company after seeing all the clips of the owner acting just straight foolish on that lawsuit IG. regardless, i think the whole thing is pretty dramatic, but fun to watch at least.

it's overpriced for sure, no way around that, but i think almost everyone that blasts on the peak either doesn't own one, or owns one and uses/cleans it wrong and fucks it up themselves.

I’m pretty sure the yellowish stuff you’re referring to is a ceramic piece that has been stained from spill over. I have taken apart every atomizer I’ve had once they broke since the Peak first launched, and not a single one of them has even had a trace of glue.

Don’t get me wrong man duds happen, I was just stating how it seems to me since the atomizer has definitely been used and there is a q-tip in there lol. But I can only tell so much from a pic you know?

I completely agree. I think the Peak is something you really need to just spend a weekend learning how to use it best. The right size loads, temps, etc. and then you need to learn how to correctly clean the atomizer. Once those are down you shouldn’t break any atomizers for a long time.

I'm sure it's a nice insert, you were just saying it slides around and doesn't stay center.

its like trying to stack bowls inside of each other when they are off centered. Aka doesnt make full contact.

The stock bucket will work better than that because it DOES stay center. If you wanna use quartz, get one that has the outer rim on the bottom so it will stay center.

My experience with a fitted quartz insert has been amazing.

I will show you a picture of the yellowish stuff pushed to one side the element also does not move.

Interested in a pic but I do think this could just be reclaim/condensed vapor.

So you guys call this a centered coil? http://imgur.com/gallery/gsP1ki5
You seem heated my dude.
I never said it was centered and neither did @muunch, but yeah. The coil itself seems pretty center. They all have variance and just because the ceramic piece underneath is offcenter doesn’t mean the coil itself is. I have multiple atomizers that work with my eternal quartz insert and my ceramic insert just fine and they look just like what you have pictured.
If the coil was defective how were you able to use it enough to stain the ceramic underneath it?

Ok so this is where it goes wrong... btw i never said it doesnt heat up. Its when you center the quartz with the black top ring, it causes the insert to sit off centered because the element isnt in the middle. This then causes it to lose contact and gain hotspots. Even on lowest heat setting. http://imgur.com/gallery/TvVHiEi

Have you tried with the stock ceramic insert? Because if you put the ceramic insert in there and put the lid on and it doesn’t sit right with the lid you can gently push it with your q-tip. Make sure you push the lower ceramic part and not the ceramic plate. If you do that with the ceramic insert in there it will let you see when it is centered again.

I didnt pay $350 for something that doesnt function properly out the box is what im getting at. Irdc about my puffco anymore and not wasting anymore money on it. My $90 DNA 250c ecig is way smarter than this thing.

I just use this saionara now with my ecig on nickle coil temp control mode(420°F). Pack of 5 quartz bucket coils is like $35 and you can take them apart plus you can buy water attachments for it. ‍♂️

I cannot see any of your pics but I might be trippin.

Mine functioned fine out of the box is the point I'm trying to make. I got nice rips, just the material choice for the bowl is not exactly my preferred dabbing surface.

I don't know why you're trying to use some bucket that doesn't sit right, I'd rather use the stock one than some janky-fit aftermarket one.

Well I’m glad you’re enjoying your Sai. That is a totally different experience though. The Peak is a simplistic device meant for easy, mindless dabs.

If you’re so unhappy with it then just sell it and move on. You seem like you don’t have any desire to try anything but this nastee insert, which btw I saw on IG and they look uneven, so I’m not sure what to tell you.

By the way, I’ve never had an atomizer come THAT off center. They are all slightly off center, but nothing like that. I wish you had a photo of when you first got it, as a wrong sized insert being pressed down to hard can move the coil if you didn’t q-tip like you say.

Quartz Inserts are made by hand, theyre always going to have slight variations to them especially the bottoms of the clear ones that dont have a uniform base fused to it like the opaque bottom inserts do. Theyre also hand cut so there could be a slight variation to the top too. These differences can be a mm or less and not visible to the naked eye but it will cause the bucket to sit unevenly, heat unevenly and possibly push the atomizer off center. Not saying thats what happened to you but it happened to me with a fade space insert.

You can get it back on center pretty easily but you need to be delicate with it. If you take the pin out from the bottom and the rubber grommet out as well you can easily move the ceramic seat and the heater place back on center with a qtip. you want to make sure the one wire is still in the groove in the threads and the other wire is slightly off center so it sits inside the rubber grommet when you put it back in. and then replace the center pin.

OK, Let me say that AutoCAD and a 3D printer are WAY too much fun for a nerd stoner. I have made so many awesome mouthpieces for the Sai! These Cap Keeper hinges are really the best add-on for the Peak, folks drop carb caps on the reg. Plus I'm having a blast making every carb cap that wouldn't stay on my Peak, work on my Peak flawlessly.
Not to mention the base, I have been fine-tuning the design but it looks like a 90mm base makes this thing a lot more stable. I will keep playing and coming up with ideas. I also made some Peak-14mm adapters to use your Peak as a rig, although I have only had to do this once, when my battery died and no one had a rig!

So I have a ruby, sapphire, sic, and several quartz inserts and I still keep going back to the quartz for the faster heat ups. The ruby and sapphire taste great, but you get less hits per battery with them. The upgraded atomizer heaters help, but the corundum still needs more heat to get going. Since this is a portable device with battery limitations, I rock the quartz for now. Here is the current lineup of good options after trying tons of crappers...I finally just had the best quartz guy in the bunch make 4 varieties for different experiences. From left to right in pic, Wicking unpolished opaque, Polished Opaque, Ultra-polished Opaque bottom , Clear quartz. I also have several straight walled inserts that work well too, but I have been sticking with the OE shape for now. Thinking about custom heaters for custom inserts soon...:science:

Not sure if anyone has posted about using a thermocouple to read the insert floors temp, but I just tried and got around 450~f (230C) on red, with my thin bottom fitted insert... pretty much ideal (im0)

still really happy with mine. can do a 0.3g easy with no worry of spillover.

will mess around and test more and maybe put up the averages from 5 or 10 runs on red/green (my most used colors)

Why bother? You bought a unit and ate not happy, so you are going to sue? Seems kind of trivial and most class action lawsuits only pay the lawyer.

Looks to me like an ambulance chasing lawyer found a new company to profit off of.

If you own a Puffco Peak be sure to join the class-action law suite.

The owner of Puffco is a complete asshole and deserves to go down. Check out the Instagram page related to the lawsuits. You can see videos of him belittleing and degrading customers and their concerns about his products.

@muunch Haven't really posted much at this point, still a lot of work to be done, but you can check our progress on our github if you are interested in following along.
I am very interested in installing your custom firmware. Is this the correct type of cable to purchase?

https://www.amazon.com/Duttek-2-Pack-Motherboard-Adapter-Extended/dp/B072Q1MBSG

I am well suited for the software portion, but I want to make sure that cable will be sufficient as there is a comment that says: "Only the pins 1, 2, 3, and 5 have wires for them. The last black wire connects to the outer steel connector, and is basically the shield. Just letting others know in case they want to make a specialty connector that uses pin4 (ID). This won't work for that. Note most connectors don't use pin4, so this isn't unusual."

Also, will there be a GUI offered when you feel the firmware is reliable enough? Or would you prefer to keep it limited to people with sufficient knowledge of the software side, to help prevent people from ruining their devices. Just wondering because my dad has a Peak and I know he would love to change the settings on his device as well, but I know he isn't going to be able to install this without a GUI lol.

@mrbonsai420 I need one of those Peak bases! Are they up on your site yet?

@tylerj55 that cable should be fine, you can pull the pins out of the dupont connector and move them to wherever you need them I am pretty sure, you will also need an STLink v2 from ebay which is like $5

The provided tools from ST are user friendly enough that I think a walkthrough could be made for the average user to flash the firmware, I am just not using them for development other than the Cube32MX to initially configure the processor.

I have talked it over with a few people in the community about the most intuitive interface for adding additional / configurable temperature modes and the consensus so far is to just extend the existing interface with new colors.

The default temperature modes are 450F, 500F, 550F, 600F (Blue, Green, Red, White)
It was suggested to offer 500, 525, 550, 575, 600, 625, 650, 675 modes but I would need to come up with easily identifiable colors for them.

I also would like to add an intuitive interface for resetting / locking the cold coil resistance

I put up another github repo over the weekend with the react-native app boilerplate for the bluetooth component, but not everyone will want to crack open their device to install that as I mentioned.

What if you had a base color for each degree in the hundreds?

Like blue for the 400s, green for the 5s and white for the 6s.

Once the base is selected the user can than cycle through the 3 or 4 colors from the base.

Yellow for 400 if in base color blue.
(This would be 500 if in base color green, 600 if purple)

Orange for 425, 525, 625.

Red for 450, 550, 650.

Purple for max?

Just a thought.

Btw, awesome project and great job with everything. I’d load it to my device just for an auto-shutdown function. Keep up the great work, it’s appreciated by many I’m sure.
