@muunch I would like to pick up a few more "broken" / non-working peak bases if anyone is looking to get rid of them.

And of course if anyone does C / stm32 development we are open to code submissions.

@mrbonsai420 it will probably be a few weeks before I can recommend anyone start installing anything, it is very much a work in progress currently.

There is no real program flow at the moment, just some demo code for the peripherals such as monitoring battery temperature, detecting button presses and turning the motor and LEDs on and off and I haven't touched the atomizer / heat stuff at all yet.

@freddiegibbs We have replaced a few batteries for people with out of warranty peaks but I don't know of any reliable 18350 cells to use that offer more than 700 mAh that would let you make a longer lasting battery.

The Peak battery pack is a 2S-18350 pack @ 1400 mAh with a protection circuit, any suitable battery would work as long as you could fit it in the enclosure. Most LiPos that I know of are long candybar things.

I incorrectly posted the pack was 1400mAh when it is actually 1700mAh, so yeah if you guys know of any suitable 18350s that would offer longer life or a LiPo that would take the same space as the existing pack we can definitely swap them out.

Heres a photo for everyone wondering why the peak doesn't have longer battery life, theres no room:

So if anybody bought one of the first round of Greek glass ruby inserts they should fit in the peak atomizer. The lid won’t go down completely, but it works well. I run through two full heatups on white and then set to the temp I want.

3 heat cycles for 1 dab? hows the battery life

also saw someones peak stopped working so they took it apart.

It does kill the battery faster, but I’m not using it for every dab in my Peak. I use it mostly when I’m going to sesh at the end of the night because it retains its heat so well.

I’m hoping with the custom firmware from @maxvapor710 we will be able to set custom temps and heat up times, which would make the whole process a lot easier.

... Luckily I have actually found a few good options out there, and some variety.

@mrbonsai420 just broke my KXB Glass quartz cup (see pg 21 of this thread, post #520 from May 2018) and looking for other value options to replace it ... any chance of sharing where you found your inserts? (Have looked at eBay, DhGate, etc. - so many options ... would be great to know of ones that work for fellow dabbers.)

Thanks!

jonnywinner,
Wow, I was hoping someone would figure this one out. I would love to flash mine ASAP! @maxvapor710 I really appreciate your work on this. If you ever need your Peak atomizers rebuilt send them to me and I will rebuild them on the house sir!

So I have been testing several different inserts, I really like an assortment and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for each one. I wanted to find a few good quartz options because my first few chinese quartz were not flat at all on the bottom, with a big divot in the center from their machining bit. lol. Luckily I have actually found a few good options out there, and some variety. I have actually found nice, smooth bottom clear quartz, excellent polished opaque bottom and full polished opaque. And the latest I got in from a well-known lab quartz maker is an interesting Wicking unpolished opaque quartz. The surface is left porous and unpolished, so the oil actually seeps into the pores of the quartz and gives it a huge amount of surface area. The heat-up time and heat transfer is also impressive. With the upgraded heaters it's almost too much for me, Clouds are so thick. While I tend to prefer slightly lighter dabs on the other quartz options, a lot of my friends definitely prefer this one for the heavy hit. They say it allows them to take much bigger dabs than other inserts and still fully vaporize. The downfall of all of that surface area of an unpolished surface is that it's not as easy to swab out. It works best to clean with a little iso and an occasional torch clean for sure.

I am also looking for a good person to make Sic and Ruby inserts, as well as little ruby pearls on the way, when I do I will definitely speak to them about insets for the heaters on the bottom as well as splash prevention tech if possible.
I have been loving putting mine through hell, and still haven't broken a replacement heater.

Here are some pics of the Wicking opaque quartz.

I was pretty skeptical of the Peak when it was released but after trying a friend's and seeing the community start to really it with 3rd party add-ons I decided to finally get one. I have a sensitive throat but I find it to be smoother than my Liger setup despite a lot less water and diffusion. With the default kit I find the flavour to be less detailed than the Obsidian but still comes through pretty good. I'm finding even at home it's a lot more convenient than the Liger and cleaning is a cinch. I haven't been dabbing as much since getting a FlowerPot but the Peak is bringing me back.

I've read a lot of hate about shitty support and faulty units, not sure how prevalent it actually is since lots of people seem to have no issues. I have a friend who's had a few issues with his and Puffco offered replacements before he asked and even cross-shipped a replacement unit to him. The atomizer is basically several ceramic pieces sitting on top of each other so you can't be too forceful with the q-tipping but knowing that it's easy to avoid. I'm rotating my atty's once a day and soaking them in ISO, seems to be keeping the heaters clean so far. Not much oil has spilled over but I don't do crazy big dabs normally.

I currently have an EQ thin fitted quartz insert, Spacewalk ball cap and some terp balls on the way, I'm hoping those will help close the flavour gap on the Liger more.

For a small company their support has been nothing but excellent to me. Im not sure if its still this way but your supposed to wait 24-48 hours for a response and if you keep emailing it keeps putting you to the back of the line. Alot of people kept emailing regardless and it slows things down. Not sure if thats still how its handled or not but ive never had an issue with their support.

That being said they used to just mail out your replacements as soon as whatever you were mailing back was in the mail but a few bad apples ruined that system so now you have to wait for them to get and inspect whatever you send back causing a slight delay.

In summary: You shouldnt worry about getting support if you need it. It just might take a week or 2 before you have a working unit again should you need it. Which in my experience is on par with a lot of vape companies

Not sure how the liger was for flavor, but with my setup right now, it's pretty close to as tasty as lowtemp dabs on my enail, hooked up to an opaque quartz banger. I mean literally, the only difference is the enail setup has a bit larger surface area... I am pleasantly surprised. If you stay on top of maintenance (which was ingrained on me from enail use anyway) there is never any reclaim flavor/etc. It's surprisingly good.

I have had fairly quick responses from them both times, and had no real issues to complain about with their C/S. I don't understand why people hate on them so hard.

I’ve contacted their support a few times and found it satisfactory for a company of their size. What they could do that’d save a lot of time is get those new instructional videos out there they’ve been talking about doing forever. For example one time I contacted them I was getting the rainbow light but was doing everything right and after a week got a response that they give their atomizers approx 3 months and it had literally been 3 months to the day it crapped out. The atomizer I replaced that one with, I got a light sequence that I couldn’t find mention of anywhere. I sent them a message but knowing the week wait when I just wanted to know if I was being an idiot or what the hell this error meant. I went on Roger’s live and asked the chat and he happened to see that and say it was a real problem and his support was in my email in moments and the replacement was on its way in about a day (it was a weekend to be fair; the error was the atomizer had a short circuit).

I will say don’t bother Roger in his live-streams with support questions. He’ll get pissy and stop answering. Wait the week and then support will take good care of you. Just make sure to do a google first in case it’s something you can fix quick.

Hey new to forum here and my phone sucks but trying to figure out and cant find anything on google searches. Try and do long story short got Puffco Peak and after few days it seemsnits short circuited. *press button twice* and it Blinks 5 times and does not heat up. I actually thought it was too hot so i let it sit for am hour and then tried again. It worked and heated up once, then that was it, back to not working. Jist hlinking 5 times and nothing. My question is: is this an atomizer issue or an issue with my base? Its only been like 2 days and i read it could be a connector/threading issue from being dirty. Everything is cleaned, and now my atomizer has been soaking, bout to dry it. The atomizer wasnt even that dirty, the heating pad white and untouched by any vapor or oil. (When i let it sit for an hour i had unscrewed and re-screwed in the atomizer, then it worked once and crapped out again). So atomizer issue or base issue? Would like to know before purchasing an atomizer or rebuild kit. Thanks

I think you answered my question. Blinking 5 times and no heat up? I hope a new atomizer will fix the issue, but im returning mine and getting one through a real authorized seller because i need a real warranty. Anyone try squaretrade? I saw on BBB puffco wouldnt help when squaretrade tried to repair the unit. Puffco was like we dont F#^$ w eBay lol

Blinking Rainbow or blinking Red or blinking some other color?

If its blinking rainbow look through the air holes on the bottom of the atomizer and make sure the 2 wires are still in tact. If they are still in tact it might just not be making a connection. Clean the contact points on the bottom of the atomizer as well as inside the peak base with a qtip and a tiny bit of iso (give the q tip a couple dabs on a paper towel before you use it) You can also take a knife or flat screw driver and gently wiggle the contact pin on the bottom of the atomizer out a little bit so it makes contact with the peak base when ita screwed in.

Well went to clean my atomizer and broke it. Not sure how, Its still completely intact but it looks like there is a slight crack in it now and only a corner of the atomizer heats up. Cant get vapor on any setting.

Bummer, but I finally got to rebuild an atomizer for the first time and it went a lot easier than I anticipated. I didnt have a pliers so I just used an electrical wire cutter. Wasnt Ideal but it worked. Tool about 2 minutes to repair the atomizer.

Hey so it was a short circuit problem, i had fixed it later that same night. in the Puffco Peak manual it says "Short circuit: blinks 5 times" (blinks whatever color your on), so while i typed that message couple days ago i had it soaking, i then let it dry for like 3-4 hours then popped it in, fired it up and it worked! ...but only once lol... so i was like wtf?!?! booklet said the threads and such, but this thing is brand new and i clean it every day.. NOTHING has oozed onto the actual atomizer yet, i dont overflow with concentrate and biggest dab i've done so far is like .3 at biggest. Website said same thing, mostly likely the threads dirty. I finally said F#$% it and i took the atomizer plug and gold pin out, then took the pink "o-ring" (pink rubber piece that separates the 2 wires) with a pair of tweezers and slightly adjusted/rotated the pink rubber piece because i noticed a very slight groove that the inside wire may have created (by slightly melting it). I rotated it so that the wire was not set into this little groove and i put everything back together and IT WORKS! not only does it work, but i noticed its slightly hotter than it was before. Definately works better than it did out-of-box which is very frustrated because this thing is supposed to be so easy to use, because of this i will NEVER let Puffco profit off me for atomizers. I understand theres no glue, no plastic, nothing like that in these things so the wires hold it together, thats fine. But i shouldnt be able to rebuild a "better" atomizer for a fraction of the cost, they should really be charging idk this is opinion but around even $20-$30 i think is too much but give it a 30-90day warranty. HOnestly i could go on and on about these atomizers, but i'm just happy there are other options out there and i now know how to fiddle around with this thing. I feel very bad for people who get a unit like mine but are not tech-savvy and have to rely on a customer support that takes days to get back when you just bought this thing and day #2 it breaks, i could understand people taking to forums a little, very frustrating. but HEY you want a company to get back to you quicker? if you got their product at a legit authorized retailer and really have issues, goto BBB and file complaint. theyll take care of it as quick as possible.

This guy had very similar issue http://peakatomizerrepair.com/ -But it seems the website is down, maybe whoever stopped paying for the domain but they had good pics and showed how the inside wire had melted causing it short circuit/bad connection but the guy fixed it.

Honestly that looks like it fires up BETTER than the original atomizers. The WHOLE surface is red, but on mine i only get an "HOURGLASS-LOOKING" shape that gets red, but leaves small spots on sides that are still white from not getting heated all the way through, Can't wait to get these with some quartz cups and a SiC bucket.
*What bucket works best with these rebuild coils? they look bigger than originals like the ceramic wont sit right on it with the fitted groove it has underneath to fit right.

I also wanted to add, I was pretty surprised at how well made the stock puffco coil was. Even though it wasnt working properly anymore and looked like it had a crack in the ceramic plate, I could not physically break the plate in half.

I also tried to break off the wires from the stock heater which took some work. Had to bend them back and forth for a few minutes before they finally snapped off

Yeah and that picture was right before it cut off it. It was definitely hotter prior to taking the pic. it feels like its heating more uniformly. I never looked at the stock coil i was using so cant compare. I used the same old ceramic bucket ive been using for months didnt even torch it or anything and its definitely giving me a little bit tastier vapor as well. ceramic bucket sits fine pretty sure its the same size.

Also I dont think the wire sitting in a groove in the pink grommet has anything to do with the performance. When you push the gold pin in it pushes the wire and creates that groove without any heat. Sounds more like the wires might have been touching and some point closer to the actual heater and you probably readjusted it so they were bot touching anymore.

I also was not gentle bending the wires assembling it and actually had to take it apart and put it back together after cutting the wires because it wasnt seated properly. pretty fool proof to repair these.

If you own a Puffco Peak be sure to join the class-action law suite.

The owner of Puffco is a complete asshole and deserves to go down. Check out the Instagram page related to the lawsuits. You can see videos of him belittleing and degrading customers and their concerns about his products.

They only just filed the lawsuit, not sure if they've even had a hearing before a judge yet so not even a sure thing at this point. You can read the filing here. I'm not a lawyer but it doesn't sound like they have a strong case, they're mostly arguing that Puffco knowingly and intentionally sold defective devices to consumers. Seems like they had issues with the earlier units but I'm sure Puffco has records of all the replacement units they sent out and all the free atomizers they gave away for free even when they weren't expressly covered.

Winning means possibly putting the company out of business which means zero chance of getting your unit fixed if it breaks, the lawyers get paid and everyone in the class gets a pittance in the mail. Only real winners are the lawyers and everybody with an unhealthy hate-on against the owner.
