I'm looking for a sic or gemstone portable electric alternative to the torch rig and banger. I don't know of any vape that can do this, regardless of price?

You can run a SiC bucket from Source on your other favorite vape, the TAF Sai

The reality is that puffco would never sell you a product at it's best because they make more on selling it to you in pieces with the prices jacked up.

But Puffco isn't upselling anything, instead they are supporting a whole fleet of third party companies by not producing a "perfect" product out of the box. Is this annoying? Well, kinda, but as a business owner who produces aftermarket parts, it supports a whole fleet of people like me.

Apple could make their own cases and bags and put thousands of little companies out of business, but instead they choose to let them exist. Puffco actually claims they tried all those materials and chose alumina. Anything that takes multiple heatups would be annoying as fuck!

I saw them tearing apart the constant gems sic cup for white shit on it after a torch clean?

Yeah he's awesome at talking shit but it'd be even better if his insert fucking worked before he started spouting off talking shit. The Fadespace SiC was a waste of $100 and even the stock bucket worked better for me. I will continue saying this.

Roger has explained he chose ceramic for its heat retention, and that he was not a fan of the quartz inserts - he will not sell something he wouldn't use.

All of my quartz inserts were really bad, so I can see why he felt that way. However I didn't think much of the stock ceramic myself.

That's what they all say. I think he just finishes it differently now. It's shinier so he can charge more? :hmm:

He actually found out he sucks balls at QC and let a few slip by that had protrusion on the bottom, causing it to not sit flush, thus not heat properly.

Mine didn't have the protrusion, but had a divot (he called it a "machining mark") so I was SOL. Not only did it not fit or work, the defect mine had wasn't deserving of a replacement.

What a pile...

You folks got me all riled up now.

Puffco literally makes $0 off the aftermarket bowls, because they don't sell them.

None of the SiC buckets work as good as stock... that's why they don't include them. The stock bucket is honestly not much worse than the opaque insert I'm using now. I think they did ok with the materials choice.

Roger has explained he chose ceramic for its heat retention, and that he was not a fan of the quartz inserts - he will not sell something he wouldn't use.
They definitely sell quartz aftermarket. Even though they "aren't fans" they still sell it for profit.

IMO what the Peak really needs is the ability to adjust the session length. That would make the default temp settings much more usable. 8x temp settings would be nice though, 25 degree increments, say green then dark green, then red then dark red, etc.

You folks got me all riled up now.

Well if its any consolation, @biohacker hated his FadeSpace Peak inserts too!

We've been discussing sic vs sapphire for years on this very forum, and it's always been that sapphire was tastier but not by a landslide.

I found that SiC gave a "sharper" flavor, not necessarily better. I feel like I get more full-bodied flavor (thus, better) from quartz. I'm definitely interested in trying gemstones at some point, just not in the Peak - I haven't tried sapphire, or ruby yet.

I was totally in love with the idea of SiC insert working with the Peak, like a lot of folks here seem to be... I just didn't see it happening based on either of the inserts I had used. I always have my eye out for new stuff, but I have been happily doing lowtemp dabs off enail+quartz for a year, so I think I can live with it in my Peak.

My experience with aftermarket bowls so far has been; it's a lot of fuss for a pretty marginal increase. My opaque quartz gives slightly better flavor than the ceramic. That's about it.

edit:

I'm feeling less sick, and have been taking dabs trying to figure out whats up. I don't think this is like the FW4 where there are "levels" to the boost... if "boost" is even what it is. It's just on, or off, I think. It will yellow light, vibrate x2, then green light every time. I was assuming the vibration would indicate which level you were on, like the FW4, this is not the case.

The guy in the video said "10 different levels of heat" ... uh... there's only 4 stock levels ("colors"). We are doubling those with "boost" ... he's just way too high to do math and meant there's EIGHT levels... I thought he meant there was 10 levels x 4 colors... :whoa::whoa::whoa::whoa:

I wouldn't doubt it. Whoever made that video is an absolute knob... 10 levels of heat? :tinfoil:

If I wasn't sick I would play around more with it but I don't notice a glaring difference.

Why not call him out on it on his live IG right now? :brow:

Just announced FadeSpace Vaporizer early 2020  Mobile rig of some sorts... lol
I will never buy a vaporizer from a company that argues with its customers and blames them for the issues they have.

Holy shit, affordable rebuildable atty's, increased temp bandwidth Dr Dabber style, a new v2 atty on the horizon, and ruby/sic inserts available? Sounds a LOT better to me these days... although still a bit confused on the ruby and SiC dishes... some love 'em and some hate 'em?
Im not sure about the ruby and SiC or how they are made but at least from Glass and Quartz I know there are too many variables. They are usually made by hand or on a lathe (still with a person making them) The bottoms arent always perfectly flat or level and when they cut the tops they are also not always cut perfectly flat and/or level. This causes the dish to not sit perfectly flat on the heater. That and the thickness of the insert are the two main issues imo. So even if you get an insert that you love from a company chances are when you go to replace it, it will not work exactly the same as your old one...

The dishes really need to be machined with a computer and laser and IMO the bevel on the bottom of the insert is necessary for proper seating and heating that none of these aftermarket dishes have at least that ive seen
It's not going to compare with a plug-in enail, or a big ass torch.
.

I think it actually compares pretty well. I have expensive glass rigs, Fresh Quartz bangers, and an Enail with both Sic And sapphire dishes. I havent used my banger or torch in a year (its actually still brand new from when i bought it last year) And ive maybe used my enail
a handful of times in the last year.

That and going through 3 atomizers with daily heavy use as opposed to having to buy new bangers and butane all the time I def saved some money too.

I like low temp tasty dabs though using bangers, enails or the peak, not sure if thats why the peak has completely taken over my use.

Also, if you have high quality solventless full melt hash the ceramic dishes are the best. Its soo much easier to clean up than a banger and doesnt ruin your after a few dabs

Quartz shouldn't even be an upgrade you have to buy seperately when the device is $400.
Look at all the different professional companies making quartz Inserts Evan Shore, Joel Halen, Eternal Quartz, Fade Space and a ton of others. All of the feedback from these inserts and companies have been hit or miss some work others dont some sit great others dont etc. I think it was smart of puffco to not include a quartz insert otherwise it would
just be another thing everyone would hate on and complain about to puffco. Theres no winning really

SneakyPete's SiC dish surprisingly had the bevel. It sat ok but didn't work well imo, maybe I'll buy another and try again at some point. Every other insert I tried does not have the bevel, but the EQ insert I got fits 100% perfect. Not sure I'd recommend buying anything from them though, as I'm still imagining how good the insert I actually ordered could be.

Someone had to say it.

Well shit. I haven't used my enail in 2-3 months. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much besides the ability to take larger dabs. My dabbing surface is the same material, but the peak is much more convenient and delivers a pretty similar experience for me. Dabs may take longer to finish, but I'm not dealing with the setting up my enail and taking it apart every night, etc. I'm glad to hear from someone else in this boat.

I'll concede that the price is a bit high, but other than that, I really, really do not understand the flack this device gets.

How easy would rebuilding an atomizer be for a layman who's never done anything like that before?

I
All of my quartz inserts were really bad, so I can see why he felt that way. However I didn't think much of the stock ceramic myself.

I am hearing a ton about no one finding good inserts? Did I get lucky as hell when I got my Opaque quartz and opaque bottom clear quartz that both work great? The stock was only OK, but after a few torch cleanings it would actually crack and leak where the side walls meet the bottom. I also have an older prototype SiC from the first 20mm Liger that works quite well because it is a bit thinner than the later versions.

But honestly the last batch of quartz inserts I got work great. Now with cheap rebuildable atomizers and quartz inserts I am a very happy man with my Peak.

Maybe I just found a good source, because the first 4 quartz inserts I purchased were awful. They were too thin and not even smooth on the bottom. I preferred the included ceramic, the old Liger SiC, and even an old Ti bucket I found at the time. Now with these smooth bottom opaque quartz I am having no issues, they are fire!

I also hear folks complaining about their new insert not "Centering". You have to keep in mind that all aftermarket inserts will need to be centered with the top cap of the atty. The standard ceramic has a little concave bottom that slips over the actual heater to stay centered. None of the aftermarket inserts have this, but once you put the top cap on it centers them and keeps them in place fine, no worries there. I honestly haven't had the lack of the indention on the bottom of quartz be an issue for me at all, just put the top cap on and let that center the insert?

And I know some guys laugh at spending money on top of spending money on devices like these, but coming from someone who is at heart cheap, but willing to spend because he really enjoys the whole process, it's really all worth it if you enjoy it. Some of us will even drop a $1000 for glass attachments on our $400 device with upgraded inserts and carb caps to boot. If it wasn't that we would be spending thousands on upgraded car parts, new computer equipment, Stereos, and all of the other toys us big kids like to play with. Hell, What else are we supposed to do with it? lol.

Are the instructions from 'puffco coil repair' easy for anybody to repair their own atomizers? What tools are needed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

good morning,

I'm interested in getting an electric portable rig, I've been reading through this thread and the Carta thread. I've gotten mixed feedback from friends and I'd like to know if anyone has experience with both and which one they prefer. I'm a medical patient and I'm looking to dab/vape concentrates foe pain relief and I'd like to replace my traditional rig with something electric. I greatly appreciate all input. Thanks
(I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place)

Hey man, I already had a Peak and a Switch so I had my sister order the Carta to try it out. Definitely some things about the carta that we like a lot, some things that need to be improved before the actual release. the app should fix the issue that it runs a little hotter than we prefer. but personally, I am glad I waited for a bigger atomizer that works with something besides Ti before I buy it. It came with a Quartz and a Ti, but the bucket is very small, like 10mm, smallest source nail sized inserts. Using the Ti the size doesn't seem to be a big issue, it hits like a freight train, but with the little quartz the oil tends to crawl up and out of the insert before vaporizing, it needs more heated surface area. That being said I think both of those issues are being addressed before the next release so he should have a great e-rig then.

Out of the 3 devices available I definitely use my Peak more than any of them, and it's my sisters favorite too. The Switch really is awesome for home use, especially once you learn it, but it is really big for travel.

Also when you were looking to purchase may affect your decision. The Focus Carta isn't available and will be released at some point revised with some of the V1 issues addressed. He used his pre-order as a beta test group and offered them a free upgrade (nice deal actually), that's why I wasn't concerned getting my sis to order the V1. But if you are looking for an E-rig right now it's either Puffco or Dr. Dabber. But if you wait maybe the V2 Carta would be better than both, who knows. As of now the Peak wins IMO.

Thanks for that. I appreciate you taking the time to break it down. I'm not in a rush to get something, but if I was going get a Peak, I'd get it soon, but I'm not opposed to waiting for the Carta if its a better option.

As of now, no. Carta V1 vs the Peak, Peak wins IMO. But the Carta V2 may be better than the Peak, we just have to wait and see.

I have instructions and an extra kit if you need. Just need a wire cutter and a similar tool to bend the wire. And the Jig it comes with is clutch

Ive already mentioned this but I just feel like there is too many variables at play when making a quartz insert. The opaque bottoms are slightly better imo because they are premade, uniform should be flat and sealed to the quartz rather than peeling away the quartz in a flame to close off the quartz tube and then making the bottom flat from that. like normal inserts are made. There are always going to be variances in the thickness of the bottoms this way which might not even be noticeable to the eye but def makes a difference when it comes to heating That is also why some bottoms are more concave then other etc. And cutting the tops flat and level seems to be an issue to or theres just no QC at some of these companies. I have 2 fadespace inserts purchased at the same time. 1 has a concave bottom and a flat top and the other has a flat bottom and a crooked top and neither of them work well imo

I know someone was asking about the ebay rigs, found someone on reddit raging one here

Seems pretty good for the price honestly, but not stoked on the design myself.

@Mynameismud - EQ has impeccable quality if you feel like dealing with the purgatory that is their CS.

Their marble cap is awesome, not gonna lie.

Not 100% stoked on their insert, but it's the ONLY aftermarket insert that works as good or better than the stock ceramic imo and I have tried I think 4 others.

Here's the EQ insert filled with rubies I got from EQ next to a GreekGlass insert I sold the same day I got it.
