"Common interests, different cultures thousands of miles apart"
Yo homie , I love that !! If only more people in the world saw those common interests , the world would be a better place . Brothers from other mothers . Oddisee is dope . Definitely one of my favorite current emcees . So I've had an idea rattling around in my head since I got my first vapcap and it seemed impossible until recently with the @Pipes induction heater and a recent post by @grokit in the vapcap thread .
@grokit posted this pic ...
F3616CF5-052F-4F56-A73A-5FB930E01221.jpg

And I said to myself , why can't I have a wizard pipe vapcap ?? Something in this vein .
E6AA3CEC-DF30-4BEF-ABBB-B9F8A0863FE2.jpg

Or maybe a mini version like this..
762C221F-EDED-459A-B4B7-9FF28E4B4548.jpg

I figure if anyone could make this happen or shoot it down as an impossibility , @phattpiggie would be my man . I'm curious about your thoughts on this .

Exsisting pipes shouldn't be a problem, at first glance a wooden adapter would do the job.

Not sure on how 'safe' they'd be, some of the bent stems are strips of wood glued together and held in a curved jig.
Then worked into shape.

Others are drilled and steam or heat bent.

I'm looking into threading either end of a piece of the condenser I use, then bend it, use it as a template to then make the glueing jig and strips method.

I'd be putting Blackwood ends on the stem so the glue shouldn't be a problem.

Or turn and drill a long piece of wood then fit the condenser and steam bend the lot.

I figure the SS will help with cleaning a bent stem.

I tried to keep it all Myrtle Burl but it wasn't going to happen, and so as not to waste the blank I added the Blackwood ends. Hence the length of 173mm.

Had one of these arrive and it's taken my VC experience to another place, more on this over here.

Can't wait to dedicate some time to a wooden enclosure for a portable version and a station for at home.
Shit loads of respect to @Pipes for putting in the time to prove the point and then put these things together outside of his 'proper' job.

1) All your twists are amazing, that blackwood is something special though. Just somehow looks like it turned out looking exactly like it should.

2) Could you just fit that induction heater in a dynastash somehow for me please and thank you? Any plans to sell enclosures? Not sure what the sizing is on these guys or how the shape/size will change over time as it get's improved. I love the idea of a little plug in base to heat vapcaps in at home.

Agreed on the twist !! As for the induction heater in a dynastash , that would be a bulky custom stash . @Pipes induction heater isn't overly large or anything , but the components do take up a decent space . Plus I'm guessing that you want a whole vapcap station ( storage for vapcap and goodies ) . This would definitely turn out to be more of a desktop station than something that's comfortably portable . As long as you don't want to be on the move with this then maybe someone could put it together . The portside that @Pipes makes is just small enough to carry around and not get cumbersome . This is all my opinion and others may vary:D

@StormyPinkness and @needalift the Blackwood twists are great looking, the single color of the wood makes them easier to do than others as far as shaping goes.

The contrasting grain of Zebrano has me looking two or three times to see if it's right.
This one is nearly there.

The different wood densities mean a bit of extra care and thought especially when it's a burr wood.
Amboyna Burl before it's final shape and sand.

And with a coat or two of wax/oil finish.

As needalift says the Induction Heater is a little on the bulky side, since mine came I've done nothing but study it to see if there is any way to get all the bits in the smallest space as possible.

I'm working thru ideas for both out and about and a desktop station.

@Squiby I'm not sure how it's going to pan out just yet, but yes I'll be putting something together.

My Skelator thingy is the bottom right one, I was hoping to 'log' it but am thinking about changing it around a bit.
I want mine to fit in as small a space as possible so it's portable.

As with everything I'm open to ideas and will more than likely be spending some more CAD's in the future, it all works too well not to pursue it some more.
A desktop idea is going to be easier.

Had these arrive today, and as it's mandatory to turn mushrooms when you have a lathe, the shape leant itself so well I couldn't not.

Which of course lead to a stem, 105mm or 4.13"

Hey @phattpiggie. I agree and understand your desire to make the smallest possible container for your skeleton, but...

Is this the opportunity to create an artisan piece as a container? If it's designed to sit on a coffee table or shelf when not in use, is making it as small as possible still a top priority?

Just something to consider...

@Mr. Me2 a complete set up has always been in mind, both gas and now induction.

Also been looking for stuff that may re-purpose, tea or tobacco caddy's, humidors and writing boxes.

I need mine to be as small and discreet as possible, the torch can attract unwanted attention when using it in a beer garden.

As you say a nice desktop set up doesn't need to scrimp on size, space enough for a bit of everything without being too big.

I'm not a big fan of dope leaves on stuff so hidden in plain sight would be a must for me, just because I toke doesn't mean I need to advertise it.

So am I @StormyPinkness it's going to be fun getting my head round this one.

Holy fucking VCAAS stem twitch, one look at that and I instantly want a twisted Blackwood stem and one of those....mushroom accent things.

Also I quite like the actual mushroom.

I got a Portside Winging it's way to me on the slow boat, kinda regret not getting a skeletor as well. Meh, I'll get one with my eraser sf mod when my VAS next flares up. ;)

Wowee that Amboyna Burl turned out so beautiful I just love it. Also, I really really want one of Pipes' Induction Heaters so bad, I'm just going through medical problems and also trying to save for a trip to Cali this year. But I'll eventually get one. :) And a few stems I hope from the wood shed. Such beautiful work. I think a twist and a long and elegant one is what I want.

Mushroom is cool . Stem is AWESOME !!! Great work as usual .
So.. wait.. You just turned a piece of mushroom into a stem accent? Does it feel all spongey and shroom like? That's such a cool effect @phattpiggie! It almost looks like a brain or an electrical burn.

Edit: Ohhh they're Betel Nuts ; I get it now :p.
I almost fell off the couch laughing at this . Thanks !! I needed a pick me up .

The betel nuts are great, I have no idea how each one will turn until I'm into it. Some of them are useless as you can see in this one. You get loads in 100g bag so it doesn't matter if a few don't work out.

I know next time I'm spice shopping in Leicester the shop keepers will be wondering why a middle aged white man is stocking up on narcotics.

I've put off posting for a few days as I had nothing good to say.

One of the suppliers I use has been hard work and all I've had going thru my mind is he's a cock and I'll never buy from him again. Dampened the mood some what.

But he's the only UK supplier of a certain kind of blank so I have to 'be nice' even tho he doesn't answer his fone or respond to emails for weeks.
You can only wait for so long and he's caused me a few delays and a couple of blanks went back for a refund.

Well today he got back to me explained a little, apologized and says he'll 'call me tomorrow', and we all know the other phrases that go with that one.

It'll be a shame as these stems turn out really nice. Fingers crossed he redeems himself.

M3 Mokume style Red and Gold Lava with Blackwood with brass, the colors in the BW look great against the Red and Gold.

Black and Cobaltium Lava, BW with Ali 14mm. Excuse the rain, one extreme to the other here at the moment.

Drilling a 150mm long 4mm hole and the bit has a tendency to wander, this Chakte was pretty good.

Did another 'Dark Matters' inspired piece but Squared it,
Also got a 62mm Zebrano Twist done but it needs doing again one end is a bit on the loose side.
ERzKxFY.jpg

And I cut a pair of blanks that originated in Ukraine, flew all the way to @Ed's TnT then over to me in the UK and will eventually end up back in the States.
First one in the jig today, this is nerve racking. All well and good when I've bought the blanks, different matter when some one else has.
PmtdQPp.jpg

Without looking I'd say I've got six more pieces to turn and it'll all start again.

Lets hope it all goes well tomorrow.
