HANU STONE versus PAX ERA
After conducting extensive side by side comparisons of Hanu Stone and the Pax Era I’m startled how much more I prefer Hanu Stone. Both brands are functionally similar employing plug and play pre-filled pods yielding encapsulated THC concentrate without muss or fuss. They both deliver on this promise, with the proviso that Hanu Stone pods are far stronger than Pax. Terpenes taste fresher, the buzz is bigger and lasts longer, and the clouds are thicker with Hanu Stone. Hanu Stone’s bigger battery accounts for some of this. Pax pods use a wick, and Hanu Stone uses a ceramic system which also contributes to better taste. Hanu Stone’s design is far more elegant than Pax Era. Pax feels disposable and looks like a Juul, which is its kissing cousin. I’d compare Pax to an entry level Dell. Hanu Stone feels more substantial, solid, and well balanced, like a Mac. Hanu Stone pods are available in 1 gram. Pax Era tops out at .05 grams.

Here's some areas where I prefer Pax over Hanu Stone. Pax has a far vaster distribution network so Pax pods are more readily available. Pax has a flat bottom and can be placed upright. Hanu Stone is curved and not table friendly. Keeping pods in an upright position is easier with Pax. Pax is slightly more discreet.

Thanks for the write up. I’d want to wait for the Stone pods to be more ubiquitous before I’d consider switching to it.

I enjoy my Era but wish it was more potent.

Are Hanu Stone pods as easy to refill yourself as era pods are with an oil syringe? I prefer this as it's much more affordable this way.

Haven't tried yet. Waiting for someone else to post the instructional video on YouTube.

Pax is teaming up with a data analytical company to make sure those pods get to where they are going in a timely manner. (Boy I hope those things don't ever get internet access.) More interesting to me was in the lede of the article, [in the cannabis industry] "PAX's Era vaporizer was the single best-selling SKU across all product categories in CA, CO, OR and AZ in 2018."

I think I see what they did there. Obviously 510 thread outsells Era pods by who know how much, simply based on availability.

Since almost every oil pen brand has a white label battery to offer, there's probably 500 Skus of other brands competing with the single Sku of Pax. But cumutively there's no way Era is outselling 510. Every store I go to has like 3 pods vs 300 cartridges.

An SKU is the number you see on a product's package and it is a unique identifier of a product. In this case the vape produced by Era. Each manufacturer will have a different SKU for each product they sell. If you have an X-brand cartridge with melonwreck inside, that's a SKU. Y-brand melonwreck? Different SKU. X-brand cartridge with GSC is yet another SKU.

Basically, what they're saying is that the Pax Era vape is outselling all other products. It is a combination of size of the manufacturer, popularity of the product and how well inventory is maintained. 510 would not be an SKU. A battery for a 510 of certain size and properties by a specific manufacturer would have a SKU. I'd bet there are dozens of SKU's just for standard sized batteries that would take a cart. Those numbers make it hard for even the most popular use format to be the biggest seller.

That's precisely what I was getting at, there's gotta be tons of SKU's of the same rebranded product competing with their single SKU.

I bet Ccell Palm and Silo batteries outsell the Era greatly, but those each come in 4 colors, thus 8 SKUs. The article sounds like something convincing to show an investor, but as a consumer that type of claim has me wondering why Era pods aren't more accessible.

Also the article mentions 2018, I wonder how the Era is doing this year with all the pod based competitors? The Ccell Dart seems to be making progress, of course it's white-labeled under multiple brands so they've already lost the SKU race.

Because they haven't partnered with Headset to analyze the problem yet. Didn't you read the article? :brow:

As to how they're doing this year, I suspect not as well. The pods are still expensive and the vape a little underpowered. I love the format and think some of the situations it is best used in make it something to have. But, it is no longer "new" and some have started looking elsewhere. The vape exploded with a large manufacturer behind it and a cool form factor. That growth is not going to happen again absent a loosening of their rules on pod use by others. The conundrum is, how long to keep the high margins on licensed and manufactured pods before licensing the tech freely.

Agreed, although I feel like Era prices are coming down a bit, Eaze.com has some pretty competitive prices between Era pods when compared to 510. They don't deliver to my location though :D

Buddies (from Oregon) just opened up shop in CA, I think their live resin pod offerings could definitely get people interested in the platform again. IMO the main feature Pax has going that nobody else really does is that full temperature control suite, the problem is a lot of the previous oils haven't really justified it, with more live resin pods finally hitting the market I think that should help the Era. Ccell is so big though, I think the Dart is going to be a big competitor in the long run.

I would like to share my experience with the Pax Era and venue security.

I think that we all know that cannabis is legal in California.

Disney parks in the state are privately owned, and have a blanket "no-cannabis" policy. This even applies to edibles (must be difficult to enforce).

I have been bringing my Pax Era into Disney parks and other venues for some time. I have a leather tri-fold wallet, and I've been sticking the Era in the wallet and folding the leather flap over it. This hides the device reasonably well. I put my wallet in the dish with my phone and keys before walking through the metal detector. Recently I've been removing the pod and placing it in my pocket and just placing the battery in my wallet. It's a good thing that I started doing that.

On my last visit to the Disney parks the security guard working the metal detector removed my wallet from the dish and said it felt like there was a bulge in it. He asked me to open the wallet, which I did, revealing the Era battery. I told him it was a battery, and he asked me several times if I had the "top" to it. I said that I did not. He asked me if I had anything in my pockets, and asked to see the sweatshirt I was carrying as well. I denied having anything, and after several tense minutes he let me go with the device. It was clear to me that the guard had been trained to look for devices folded into wallets, and to question anything that looked like a vape device. If my Pax had been a Juul, and I produced a Juul pod, I'm sure he would have let me go.

This alarmed me enough that I decided to find a different way to bring the Era into Disney parks. I Googled "Pax Era metal detector" and found some Reddit posts claiming that people had gone through metal detectors multiple times with Era devices, and that the device was too small to trigger the detector.

Based on this I decided to do some trial runs without any pods on me. I put the Era battery in my front pocket, put everything else in the dish, and walked through without triggering the detector. I was relieved, but was not going to rest easy with only one test, so I exited and tried again. This time I went through a different lane, and this time the metal detector DID alarm. The security guard wanded me and detected the Era battery. I showed it to him, told him it was a battery, and he said "OK". Before letting me go he asked me to flip my belt buckle back so he could look behind it. I had nothing there and he let me go.

So the takeaway, for anyone who is curious, is that metal detectors CAN detect the Pax Era battery, depending on how they're calibrated. The metal detectors at the Disney parks must be configured to ignore belt buckles, because mine had a LOT more metal in it than my Era battery, and it has never triggered the metal detector. And security guards at Disney parks are trained to check behind belt buckles when someone triggers the metal detector in any way. Also my pod has never been detected.

I don't think I will change my technique for other venues like concerts or ball games, as they seem much less interested in vape devices, or what is crammed in my wallet. But security at Disney parks seemed to be trained to look for that kind of stuff.

Disney got rid of all smoking /vaping areas in the parks as of May 1. My guess is that it was not Pax specific.

True that they got rid of smoking and vaping in the parks and Downtown Disney. Here is a related story:

https://news.weedmaps.com/2019/08/can-you-vape-at-disneyland-heres-the-risk/

So smoking and vaping may be prohibited in the parks, but that does not mean that they can stop you from bringing in cigarettes, regular e-cigs, or Juul devices. These are not on the list of prohibited items:

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/park-rules/

On the other hand, marijuana is specifically prohibited. That means that a Juul is not a prohibited item, you just can't use it in the park. Anything with marijuana in it IS a prohibited item, and they can stop you from bringing it into the park.

Friend got confronted over his battery at Disneyland and ended up getting spooked by a dog.

Probably best to do edibles and take a pen hit in the car before you enter the park.

Can you tell me more about "getting spooked by a dog"? Does that mean your friend was scared of the dog and decided against bringing anything in?

I'm pretty sure that the dogs used at Disney security checkpoints are trained to detect explosives, not drugs or cannabis.

Yeah he didn't wanna ruin his big expensive family Disney vacation over a pen hit, lol he was probably already stoned and got a little paranoid when he saw the dog.

I don't blame him. It's not worth it.

The Era remains my most discreet way to consume. I will continue to use it when I'm out and about, but I don't think that I will try to bring it into a Disney park anytime soon, especially if I'm visiting with the wife, grand kids, etc...

On a separate note, I noticed that there are pods for the GPen Gio that only contain CBD, but I haven't run across any for the Pax Era.

Probably best to fuck Disneyland, LOL! Take the kids to Burning Man. :) You're right about Era pods being reasonably priced @ Eaze. Sunset Gelato by Happy Stix, my personal fave, is $30 per .5 gr. Seibo tells me Eaze will carry Hanu Stone, which I prefer to Pax, this month (September). Sitting here hitting both now.

I generally do not like concentrates as I find them not up to the same complexity as the flower that I vaporize in the many fine vaporizers available (MV1,FF2+,evo and others). But I am truly impressed by
how easy this is to use. At my local medical dispensary "Have a Heart" I am assured of working pods and have replaced one of them that refused to function correctly.

But what really impresses me is the app and the ease of BlueTooth connectivity. For example the MV1 was a bluetooth nightmere. Now the worst feature is that they leave it on all the time so that you have to disconnect/then reconnect the battery to avoid a huge loss of battery power. If I remember right this was an issue that they created from one release of firmware to the current one. They now leave it on constantly, searching to connect and thus draining power. 40% drain is my estimate over 4 days. I am guessing that they do this because it makes connecting alot easier. An earlier release of the firmware did not connect automatically and was not very good at connecting to many of the different bluetooth mobile devices. Connecting still seems a bit sketchy.

But the PAX ERA seems to easily connect and I love the ability to reduce the temperature as far as possible as that ups the flavor for me. I did look through this forum searching on bluetooth and connect connection etc. and I see no connectivity issues. I find this amazing.

The Era app is awesome, love how it saves my set temp and session setting on the actual device too. They did a nice job on it, best vape app I've used, and the Era is actually ultra compact so having a functional app makes more sense than some of the other vaporizer applications.

I also like being able to "lock" the vape with the app as well, some pretty nice features for managing tolerance!

Eras is not a vape. It's a pen.
