Massachusetts now has the Era. Will definitely replace my Rubi. Temp and session control are awesome. Working on finding my preferred settings and will then set it and forget it.

Why, is the Rubi not as good being refillable.
I want to get a present for my buddy who likes
pen style pod systems. I just want him to be able
to refill a gram of good oil every time for $50 and
not get ripped off for life on $ 120 for same or ammount
of oil & lesser quality than available here for 1/2 that.
Isn't there a glass pod refillable system yet?
I moved on to the Sai TAF Ti/Bucket pen with kickass
compared to my old 1 gram glass carts ceramic ccells .
But it is what he wants for stealth & he said he was too
high to leave my place after 2 29sec hits on my Sai/
mike said it takes him 4 10 second hits on a rove 88%
thc cart. We refilled 2 of his rove carts with a full gram of
91% ATF lucid oils for $60 in his empty rove carts.
Another 1/2 price deal with higher quality oil.
So I got to get him the form factor he needs for work as
they all vape like juuls & he wants to fit in, kinda lol.
Is there anything that isn't a total rip off in price that's not plastic crap?

There were three deal breakers for me with the Pax Era.

1. Pods were cut with filler (PG/VG/PEG).
2. Not refillable.
3. Not available in MA.

Turns out the pods are not cut and I don't actually mind not refillable any more. Based on comments I've read (here or elsewhere) both the Era and the Rubi pods can be refilled but neither seems to make it easy or don't always work out all that well.

When it comes to price I am usually very cost conscious and always calculate the cost/dose (10 mg) of any cannabis product I buy. Flower costs me about $0.31/dose, edibles I try to only buy if they are $2.00 or less/dose (hard to find), vape cartridges in general have cost me about $0.80/dose. The Rubi pods I am still working on are down around $0.60/dose.

The best price I am seeing for a gram of oil is $80-100. So theoretically I would save compare to $55-60 for half that. But considering a) I am a micro-doser and it takes me months to use up a pod, b) I like to experiment with a variety of strains, c) the cost per dose with the pods is acceptable for now (knowing prices here will fall over the next couple of years to something reasonable), and d) I'd risk losing some oil during the transfer, the potential savings does not override the inconvenience of having to refill the pods.

That said, what I think makes the Era so much better is the temp control and session control. I didn't really think much of session control but now I use it so I can take a cool-down draw. A micro dose session seems to be about a 2-3 second draw, a small session seems to be a 4-5 second draw. I haven't played with the medium and higher settings yet. After that the Era locks and stops heating. That way I can keep drawing to "clear" the device without continuing to heat. The Era also has programming to control/maintain your set temp which I don't believe the Rubi does (plus you have no idea what temp the Rubi heats at).

For a heavy user who wants to save as much money as possible the Rubi probably does make more sense. For me the Era wins (assuming I get the same cost/dose or better than the Rubi).

PS- I'm not a big fan of KandyPen products because my impression is they have some issues with material safety and I trust Pax more in that regard. The only reason I got the Rubi is because it was so similar to the Era and was available. Don't get me wrong, I've been loving the Rubi but now that I have the Era I will probably finish out my existing Rubi pods and be done with it (or maybe I'll save them to be my travel vapes since I won't care so much if they get confiscated).

I totally agree with you regarding the Era features, plus I really like the form factor — and as a Pax 1&2 owner, I rely on the Pax reputation. However, there are only 3 (or maybe 4) growers here in WA state who are producing Era Pods, and with limited choices. So I opted to buy a 510 threaded battery so that I can use cartridges as well. There is a huge variety of oils available for the pen, particularly CBD formulations that I require.

I had a friend completely inexperienced in the ways of cannabis communicate to me a desire to explore due to legalization/regulation. We set a time and I went to meet him. On my way, I went to buy some of the devil weed and realized I didn't bring anything to vape it with and the trip back home would not be worth it. Was I really going to buy some papers and SMOKE it??!!?! No way. FUCKcombustion.

So I picked up one of the Era's and a pod in the hope it would be an easy and fun entry into vaping.

I was right. It's not like using a cartridge is hard; all you do is screw on a battery and push the button. But, this thing is so easy to use literally anyone could get a successful session the first time without any experience. You might not be able to play the games or change the temperature or how bright it is without some instructions--but, the basic process is as easy as the toss-away "sticks" you can get.

I chose a durban poison pod. While I don't think you get much from strain claims in concentrates, I wanted to believe and a classic strain seemed the way to go.

The vapor was very nice and you could get extremely satisfying hits with ease. The form factor was fun and I was amazed at how well the vape worked. It tasted pretty good too. It might not be the finest vape in the land and a knowledgeable user might not choose it at home over a nice bucket on the Sai or Molecule. But, I think I will use it over cartridges that fit on the 510 more and more. We'll see. It's not like I'm an experienced user, I only used it the one session and left it there for my friend to explore. And, the pods are expensive and I might go to the Stiiizy pod/vape as they are so much cheaper and seem a little easier to refill.

Then again, I don't know how much refilling I'd do for the situations I'd use it for. It's not going to be my main vape; however, I'll probably always have something like it around. It works.

As I understand it, because interstate transportation of cannabis products is illegal from the federal level, each legal State has producers that use the "pod" system. Each State will have its own brands.

There is something very enjoyable about the casual usage style of these pods and carts. It's like smoking a joint, in the best way possible.

The pod was a GoldDrop Durban Poison 1/2 g.

I agree it was the casual usage that was so nice. It was easy to share and to leave on the table when something else was done and then come back and use it again.

I own both the Mol and the Sai. I still like those little pods and carts when I'm out of the house. Hell, I like them sometimes when I'm at home too. Brite Labs pods and carts are great and give me some of the best hits possible on any device. There are a couple quality extractors putting out really nice oil in pods/carts.

I try to use the Sai and Mol more though. Mostly because of cost, and safety. Plastic Pods make me unwary. But loading an atomizer on the go is a pain in the ass. That's where pods really shine.

I hear you. Stiiizy makes very hard hitting pods. Their actual device is one of my favorite cannabis consumption methods.

But... I think you'll be disappointed in Stiiizy's oil coming from the Era. It's distillate flavored with exogenous terps. Not super tasty. But they hit like a truck. I just think it has more to do with the pod than the oil though.

If you have the ability to refill, maybe look into the Nox by Vapedynamics. It looks like a rebrand of the Stiiizy device, and you can load whatever oil you want in them.

Too bad about Stiiizy. I really hate the phony taste of some carts and was happy to see it wasn't in the pod I had wrote about or in the pod I tried this weekend.

I'll look into the NOX as it looks pretty cool. I do like the fact I now have a Pax in the nightstand in case sleep eludes me.

Again, here is a picture showing how to reload a pod. Pods have two plugs: one under each external vapor hole. Try to slide the needle past a rubber plug. I've refilled a pod 3 times w/o leakage. 4th time leaked.

What an awesome product but its total shame that you cant get empty pods.

Refilling them over and over isn't great for your health, and in my area $65 only gets a 400mg cart.

If I try it ill post back- time to look at other portables.

^ safe to assume it’s 400mg THC, in 500mg of total oil. So 80%THC, 2% CBD, likely a few percent of a few other cannabinoids, and 10-12% terps.

I just got an Era and right away I noticed its smoother than a CCELL. So nice how the actual pods are labeled with the strain unlike CCELLs, makes it easy to find your flavors. Very easy to switch pods and tailor the experience. The session control seems great, love the concept of getting consistent, accurate sessions for tolerance control. The device is very tiny and very lightweight, it's sleek and minimalist like an Apple product. Extremely discrete. I've had many ultra compact wax pens and cart setups but this takes the cake on form factor.

Got a Berry White pod from Brite Labs and I'm stoned in my toes! These full spectrum co2 oils consistently give me great strain specific effects, paired with the added smoothness and Im pretty happy. Been on the fence about getting this one, I found a place where I can get pods for about $5 more than 510 which isn't bad. If they last longer/taste better due to session and temp control as some people claim it's probably worth it.

Trainwreck pod by Brite Labs (CA) in my Pax Era... loving this Pax! The full temperature control suite is so cool for dialing in different hits. That classic Trainwreck sweet and sour lemon flavor in here, with nice earthy hash undertones.

The price per gram is high, but it beats buying a lame cartridge from some bunko brand.

Finally got pods in my state and I'm loving it, I stopped using my rubi in place of 510 carts a while ago then onto vfire pods and a 510 mix I think I'll be sticking to pods for the era now and it will be hard for me to want to finish up my vfire pods and all my 510 carts lol

probably due to oxidization in the used coils after time just get old and charred

I thought it was a faulty pod, so bought a new one and eventually noticed via the app that it was locked. Problem solved I guess. But, I'd like to know if this was something I did accidentally or if it was just a glitch in the software. I'm not finding any information online about "how to lock the pax era" without the app. Any help?

I didn't even know you could lock it with the app. If you care to bother, you could shoot them an email and ask Pax directly? I've never heard of it happening, but then again I don't use mine all that much.

It's in the upper right corner of the app on the main screen, it's a little lock symbol.
