Anybody know what the new oven lid material is? On mine it feels light, like some kind of aluminum / nonstick product.

I was told that it is PPS, a plastic designed for high-temperature applications.

I also have some rainbow holographic sign vinyl in various patterns that lasts a long time (tested it on some ego batteries), might just wrap mine in that for fun... now which color/pattern to choose from?? :D

Oooooooooohhhhh pretty . Unfortunately that draws attention though. I guess while I'm at home or a friend's house it would be cool - I really like the rip design and the fact that it is protection! How much are they?

slightly off topic but a real important question.. Does paxvapor only take credit cards or do they also have a paypal option?

Yeah the wife is gonna kill me when this shows up... Anyone want an indica, ha ha (no I'm not serious)

Why? It doesn't look like you have too many. If you can afford it, who cares? I have to admit, I did sheepishly tell my husband and apologize lol. He asked me what I was apologizing for....I pay half the mortgage, most of the utility bills and I rarely ever clothes shop. Plus I don't give him grief for buying costco-sized Jack Daniels!

OK stop rubbing it in ipax!!. I'm so jealous. I don't live far from NYC but I had to work and celebrate my mother's birthday yesterday. It must have been a blast!

oh, I just posted the photo of those vinyl samples as an example, I have some similar designs here, on small sheets that I got a few years ago through ebay. I think the store front is still active, just search vinyl sign hologram and you should get some kind of hit. They have rolls and sample sheets last time I checked. I don't have any intention of selling anything myself, just possibly making a wrap for my pax2 should the whim come along once I have it.... and I also agree time has been very slow since ordering the pax2, seems like it's taking forever!! Luckily I've been keeping busy setting up a glassblowing area, still working on putting all the pieces together, but we just got a kiln so I'm pretty excited. Woot!! can't wait to be pax'n

We only take credit cards at the moment, sorry about that. We are going through the process of adding PayPal, and hope to have it up in the next 30-60 days.
Thanks scott. I also took the time to email u guys at paxvapor.com and received an email saying that vapeworld.com which is an authorized retailer of pax does accept paypal. I think customers should really order off the main website (paxvapor.com) but for those who only have paypal at the moment. Vapoworld is another option.

Well, maybe offer a possibility to make custom skins?

Like this new pax, but no response to the possibility of international shipping...? Any idea?

Hey,
Will the Pax2 be making its way to Europe?
Ed, we have recently regained the rights to sell internationally and are hoping to be in retailers in your area by this summer, and have online capabilities fairly soon. Thanks for waiting!

Euhhmm so is that official? Where can we get in line? My girlfriend for the first time in her life has been throwing money at this screen, but it does not work...

Thanks to testers for showing us the way... Seems like we are getting closer and closer to finding more and more available vaporizers to work as advertised hihi

I've been using the flat mouthpiece exclusively and I wanted to see whether I could find any resin or debris building up under it. So far nothing, but since the Pax 2 not my regular I haven't run a huge amount through it either. I estimate a little more than a gram. I see no reason why the flared MP would be any different. This is a drastic contrast to the original Pax MP, which needed regular cleaning and special lubrication.

Some other points about the flat mouthpiece: first, it's a pain to take off. You have to insert something in the slit to pry it up. If you can get leverage it comes out easily. A fingernail works but mine aren't long enough to get it out without three or four tries. Second, since it means you put your lips directly on the Pax 2 body, eventually you get lip gunk building up—not on the MP where I think you'd expect it, but on the Pax body. A simple wipe after use avoids this, but I deliberately haven't been doing that to see what happened.

One thing that concerns me a little about the flat MP is the little nipple that serves to press the button:

Qyplc3u.jpg

The silicone surrounding this is fairly thin. After pressing it a few times, I began to wonder how many presses it will take before it starts to tear. @Ojan_at_PAX, can you find out if they wear-tested that? How long will it be before spare parts like replacement MPs will be available?

I was actually talking to one of our engineers about this last night! Back during the early testing days some of us were pressing that button as many times as possible for as long as possible - while watching TV or something. It was holding up flawlessly after a few weeks so we got tired of it and one of our guys, with a background in automation, built a doodad to press it for us and note the results. It lasted a very, very, very long time. I don't want to throw out a number but I can say I'm not at all worried about wearing down my mouthpiece or button.

How long will it be before spare parts like replacement MPs will be available?

We should have P2 accessories on paxvapor.com by April 2nd!

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking to buy my first vape (I’ve only used my friend’s Vapir NO2, which I enjoyed), and I’ve been doing a lot of reading about the Pax 2. I have a couple questions based on the reading I’ve done:

From what I’ve seen, the major complaints with the original Pax were:
  • Mouthpiece getting stuck
  • A lot of cleaning/maintenance
  • Oven lid may fall off
  • Flavor quality declines quickly
  • Uneven cooking in the oven
  • A lot of draw resistance
After reading @pakalolo ’s and some other reviews, it seems like these problems have been pretty much fixed.

@pakalolo mentioned the possible wearing down of the nipple on the mouthpiece, but based on @Ojan_at_PAX ’s response it doesn’t seem like that will be an issue. So, aside from the flat mouthpiece being difficult to remove and the lip gunk build up on the body of the Pax (which doesn’t seem too difficult to clean), I was wondering if you have noticed any other negatives so far? Or if @ipax had noticed anything either?

Also, another question for @Ojan_at_PAX :
I see that the Pax 2 only comes with the USB charger and I was just wondering if you could use any wall charger or if that would void the warranty?

Thanks!

I was told that it is PPS, a plastic designed for high-temperature applications.

Hmmm, so this is the only thing putting me on the fence about this vape. I did read that @pakalolo did some tests with empty Pax2 and highest temp with no plastic taste so that's good (although the mystery vapor /probably resin he reported made me a little nervous...) I sure would be curious to hear what happens if someone would do that same test before using the Pax2 at all to make sure none of that was off-gassing.

So, from Wikipedia, regarding PPS: "Maximum service temperature is 218 °C (424 °F)". So if the standard operating temps are "360-420(F) / 182-215(C), isn't that cutting it a bit close for comfort? So if the Pax2 heater is even slightly calibrated towards higher heat, then you could potentially get into the range of degrading that lid it seems at the highest settings, right? 4 degrees in (F) is not much of a buffer zone...

Still not a huge worry, as I tend to be done with my session after a few draws around 210/410 (on a vape with incremental control) and probably won't use the highest setting on the Pax 2 much if at all, but something to consider I think...

It wasn't mystery vapour. There was nothing visible, it tasted like cooked resin, it gave me a mild buzz, and I hadn't cleaned the P2 first. Nothing mysterious about that.

When I get a new vapourizer the first thing I do is draw through it to see if I detect any taste. I then put it through a heating cycle at its highest temperature and use a strong light to see if there is any kind of off-gassing. I did these tests for the Pax 2, although I think I forgot to mention them. At any rate, I didn't find any hint of taste or visible vapour.

PPS is a generic name with various formulations from different companies. I don't know which type of PPS PAX Labs is using, but I do know that some types of PPS have continuous operating temperatures at least as high as 240°C with bursts to 270°C. (E.g. http://www.resinex.co.uk/polymer-types/pps.html) Also, that temperature is a thermal deformation limit and does mean there is off-gassing. PPS is a material that has low off-gassing characteristics. I don't know what version of PPS is used in the Pax 2, but I do know that it can sustain 15 minutes of constant heating at the maximum setting for the P2 (215°C) without any sign of off-gassing, flavour, or thermal deformation. I don't think the oven lid reaches temperatures anywhere near the oven temperature because I can handle it immediately after heating it for several minutes at high.

@scott_dunlap or @Ojan_at_PAX: I'm passing on the results of my own research into PPS here. It would be good if you could get information out of your engineers about this material and post it, because this issue will keep coming back to haunt you otherwise.

Also, another question for @Ojan_at_PAX :
I see that the Pax 2 only comes with the USB charger and I was just wondering if you could use any wall charger or if that would void the warranty?

You are able to use the PAX 1 wall adapter to charge PAX 2, but I don't advise on anyone using any other AC adapter other than ours as damage stemming from it could very well void the warranty. We will also have a PAX 2 wall charger as an accessory.

USB, though, is fair game with regard to their power source, but keep in mind the charge time will be slower based on its rating.

So, from Wikipedia, regarding PPS: "Maximum service temperature is 218 °C (424 °F)". So if the standard operating temps are "360-420(F) / 182-215(C), isn't that cutting it a bit close for comfort?

I'll check with @scott_dunlap on lid for ya! I paid close attention when heating mine up for the first time (on high) and didn't notice any off-gassing.

Ok, I understand what happened there better now. Sorry, I didn't mean to misquote you. So ok, good, that is more reassuring, and particularly so since you shared your initial, pre use test. Cool. Thanks for that info.
