Cool, thanks for the help guys. Are the pandora kits also as backordered as the original? I'm actually getting the pd for vaporizing as well as aromatherapy, just started practicing and it's so fun and relaxing.

Ya thats a good call Devo, I bought a cheap pair and ended up upgraded for the second build.

Not sure if the PDP's are on backorder but an e-mail to the manufacturer is probably your best bet.

I know I haven't used my PD enough for aromatherapy, gotta look into that more.

I was looking into buying one and then noticed on the site it said "Not available in Arizona". Why the hell wouldn't it be available in Arizona?

All Purple-Days Diffusers, both the Original and the Pandora Kits have a 3-5 week lead time. I make them and the parts in batches and orders go out in batches. Depending on where your order is on the list, and when the next batch goes out, it may be at either end of that prediction. It's just one guy working in a small shop, here in the USA. I'm not waiting on them to arrive from China. ;)

Why no Arizona sales? Interstate internet transactions are not subject to state and local sales taxes. Sales in Arizona would be. And it's not so simple. "Effective June 1, 2010 the Arizona sales tax rate for retail purchases is 6.6%. Maricopa County adds on .7% sales tax to support roads and jails. That's a total of 7.3%. Then, each city may add sales tax. If you add the total of the Arizona sales tax and Maricopa County sales tax, 7.3%, to the city sales tax rate, you'll get the total retail sales tax that you'll pay when purchasing merchandise in that city. " Then you add local "Transaction Privilege Tax" of up to 3% depending on the community. >10% Sales tax !

I have no problem paying income taxes (State and Feds), not fun, but with some patience you can get through the paperwork.

Collecting and re-distributing sales taxes... Hire an professional accountant, then hire a professionalweb developer to implement these taxes (and loose control of our site). Then pass these extra professional costs on to every PD customer . . . ie. California and New York and Australia get to pay extra so we can sell to Arizona? And consider that Arizona is 2% of the USA population. Sorry Arizona residents, life is complicated enough.

Ya know, I never thought of Arizona as a problem child, but it sure has become one............in more ways than one, eh?

Maricopa County needs those taxes to build extra jails for all those people that that over zealous sheriff keeps arresting. ;)

I would still give my left nut to be able to live in Arizona despite this. I am not looking forward to winter.

To lock up potheads and tons of unnecessary people. That county needs a new sheriff BAD. I would think any pothead wouldn't want to send money to that county anyway, I know I wont. Where are the tea baggers yelling about these taxes?

Sorry, back to the thread. These look like a really fun project. I love to build things and solder my guitar electronics quite often so I would hope I can do the required soldering involved with a pandora kit. Maybe I can get myself a Christmas gift this year :brow: yeah that's what I'll call it, a Christmas gift haha :D

We have just landed here,(for those that think we are to blame for Maricopa County / AZ Politics), you can't hold our feet to the fire, for all the sins, of the father's, father....

If prop 302 doesn't pass this time, and that is still uncertain, it will next, and we will be sure to support it.

AZ and MI have the lowest rate of folks moving to the state for employment. Some things suck in AZ (and a list of other states for other reasons). We choose to move here to make a difference, and for health reasons, mostly health reasons. But eventually enough persons will make a difference. It's like a veil that is being lifted. Old (blind) fuckers dying off, including my parents... sheep in many ways... brilliant, respected... but sheep . . . :/

Change takes time, nobody can wait forever for change . :2c:

I'm sure no one is accusing you for Maricopa County politics. That would just be silly. Good to know there is a other "yes" vote residing in AZ now.

There is a list of tools and a picture toward the bottom of this page.
http://purple-days.com/Pandora2.html

In addition to a soldering iron... The only odd-ball tool is the 'ring pliers' or 'round nose pliers'. I have seen working examples from $4 (Great Neck round nose pliers) to $20 and up. A good set (reversable) is around $10.

Other than that just a few normal tools, hammer, screwdriver etc.

Hi Tom, Thanks for your explanation. I kept wondering about that, especially since noticing that you are yourselves here in AZ Now that 203 has passed, and given that the state doesn't screw it up AGAIN, perhaps you can do some dispensary sales once they are open. Let them deal with the math lol. Honestly, I'd pretty much decided on the PD over the MZ and WDz, but for the no-AZ sales  Also, like everyone here, I'd LOVE to be part of helping you increase your production. If ever you want to sub-contract or hire an inexperienced but smart-and-highly-trainable worker who truly believes in your product, shoot me a pm. :D

I ordered my PDP on Dec. 2 and it arrived Jan. 6. Thats pretty good considering the holiday season. The instructions were great in my opinion. The one problem I ran into was that the long end of the resistor's wire snapped off. After a quick soder everything seemed to be good. The bottom was a bit tricky but if you are any good at the game Operation you may have some better luck. All in all it was a project I had fun doing, and is a great learning experience. I still can't figure out why the brass cup is so small though. The one for my Woodeez fits much better.

Great pics and thanks for the build review. Really looking forward to a Pandora Kit in the future. Right now I'm still enjoying my Cherry PD unit!

Update: Everything is working smoothly for the most part. The only thing is that I cant figure out what is causing this slight rattling noise inside the unit. It sounds small, like a bead of soder that may have flaked off? Nevertheless it still works and is not worth dismantling in my opinion; I just kind of wish I knew what it was :/.

pbmagnet4,

elmomuzz

That just happened...
Does it rattle when heated? Its pretty normal to have a rattle when cool but it should go away once at temp.

PBMagnet, The aroma oil cup is a Copper plumbing fitting. Actually an end cap.

There are plenty of sizes from tiny to large available. That is a 1/2" fitting and I believe (from pictures) that Woodeez uses a 3/4" fitting. Obviously I had a choice of size. And so do you, any hardware or Home Depot type plumbing department will have tons of them cheap. <$1

I am not going to say who is right, niether is 'right', but I will give you my thinking on size. The larger 3/4" fitting is about 7/8" diameter and nearly blocks the entire top hole. The Purple-Days fitting (1/2") is 5/8" diameter.

I considered what blocking the natural convection flow of heat might do... Since the unit is designed to sit open and maintain it's temperature, blocking this natural convection may increase temperatures. Not say it does, just giving my thoughts, during design. Since the unit runs on the high side of vaporization temps (IMO) to start, any increase wasn't something I was after. So I went with the smaller cup, which would allow the air to flow around it rather than be blocked by it. The other point is, it's meant to hold a few drop of oil, not be filled, so cup capacity isn't an issue.

I try to think things through, I may not always be right, but there is always (I hope) some thought behind my actions and the consequences they may produce.

Anybody who builds a Pandora, please, if you run into trouble, like PBMagnet, with his snapped wire, or just a question, give us a shout (via e-mail). Even though the kit has no warranty (since you are the builder), we want you to have a completed, working product that is built right. If you break or loose a part (it happens), or just can't figure it out (it happens), be honest and tell us (in a short note), we try to help everyone.

Pretty tough to speculate on a "small rattle", on a unit I didn't build, and not being there to hear it, but it may be the resistor hitting the heat exchanger wall. It may be the wires hitting the through holes. It could be a droplet of solder from construction or a piece of wire that you cut off. Hard to say.

It does it when it is hot. It runs like a champ tho, even connected to my EHLE. Thanks for the reply Tom, I can tell from the thought out instructions that you have thought out almost every aspect of PD and that the smaller cup may be a better idea now that I think of it. I don't think the noise is from any wires in the heat exchanger, because the mystery object seems as if it is rolling around the base and stops when it possibly gets caught on something in the bottom. Ive been thinking about it and I am not sure what kind of damage and if it would be worth it to reopen the bottom to just get some small piece of debris out. Then again I do not know the possibility of that object screwing something up down there (not that there is much it could really do, or could it?). Thanks again for all the input

"not that there is much it could really do", I think you have it, everything is well seperated and nailed down tight. Back when I couldn't see I once in a while missed a drop of solder that would come off during assembly and stick to the wood cavity and break free later. Reflective and me nearly blind, sometimes I would glue one up with something in there. Nope not worth opening up for a bit of debris IMO.

Completely agree Tom, it was my first build so shit happens and there is a little bit of soder down there. As the saying goes "if it aint broke dont fix it" hahaha.
