To answer Lil' Bud shipping questions. On the website I post what batch is currently *open* and approximate fulfillment date. So batch 6, which will be the last batch to ship this month due to a pre planned shut down for two weeks to reorganize, and it's full. Batch 7, which is being added to right now has a couple of spots open, so if you're interested in being in batch 7 (early July), now's the time. I hope that's not too confusing. And yes, the down payment option is just like paying in full, you go into the next open batch.

Damn if batch 7 isn't almost full. Waiting list people, if you want a July unit, now is the time to jump in. I'm really looking forward to this batch. My new slab of figured walnut just arrived, waiting on Purple Heart. Alan is already giving me Purple Heart advice. Thanks @Alan.

Just to mention. I want to make it clear how much influence Alan has had on Lil' Bud. First of all, he designed it, but he also designed (invented) the wire mesh coil, which is really EVERYTHING. I carried out his design, but never would have been able to bring it to fruition so quickly if it wasn't already so well thought out. The combination of his designs and my woodworking skills is a powerhouse when it comes to vape building.

And a mention about roasting tubes / stems / mouthpieces. All Lil' Bud stems come from Alan. This is as much a part of the vape as the coil itself. For me personally, I like the simple set up of a short tube, but I know you guys like all sorts of Alan's awesome roasting tube inventions. The best way to get extra custom tubes is to speak with Alan directly, and eliminate me as the middle man. He can pretty much create anything you can think of / wood / glass / ss. Just send him a PM, and please post pics of your new beauties.

I've discovered sandpaper rolls. It's got a fabric backing, so stronger, only an inch wide, but not bad size for LB, especially the edging. You can sorta do the shoe shine buffing move and get a nice finished round edge without taking off too much material. First I take the bulk off on the oscillating drum sander (another work saver), then hand sand from 220 to 600, now using the rolled stuff for the edging. Regular sandpaper still works a bit better for the wide flat sides.

So finished sanding done, beeswax applied. By gosh, I think it's time to build me some Lil' Buds.

For those waiting for pics, coming soon. The figured walnut and quilted maple are looking sweet, wasn't sure as this was my first time with these two woods. The heavily figured walnut is like 50% heavier than straighter grained black walnut. It's some dense stuff, almost marble like. The quilted is glistening. Very happy.

In an effort to extend a session, we can sometomes over pack a stem. This can lead to blocked air flow, uneven heating, and not the best results. I just load enough to fill an inverted dome/basket screen and rely on that open/even draw.

Dry herb is an important part of session optimization. I like to use a simple lamp, but any low wattage light bulb will do. You can place herb on a screen above, or bowl below, but using a heat source to pull the moisture from your product will give you smoother, tastier, more consistent vapor. The final product should crumble nicely into a consistent, fluffy powder (not complete dust) without the need of a grinder.

I use this tip quite often and have passed it on to friends. When you're new to vaping it's hard to understand how drier herb yields more vapor, but it does. I keep all my flower in glass jars until I want to use it. I get about a gram, and then break it up, put in on a sheet of paper over a lamp, and let dry for 20-40 minutes.

And then I use a Chewy 2 to grind it and put it in a color coded doob tube depending on type of strain. Sativa goes in the Blue, Indicas in the Red, and Hybrids in the Orange.

I like to grind. It is unnecessary when the flower is dried like this, but I get more consistent results with all my vapes when I do, so I grind.

I've noticed a huge difference in my vaping experience since I started this ritual of drying a couple of months ago. And very happy I did.

I wasn't lyin', gnarly freaking walnut. It's heavier than any other woods I've used. This little guy has a cosmetic error (I'll never tell), so he'll be staying home with me.

Wow ! That's one of the finest looking LB's , Mike ! knew that rough board pic would look great , you sure brought out its full potential, look at the grain and colors on that ! No wonder it's a heavy weight , but damn must be fun to handle ! I already admire handling and looking at mine , imagine that !

The Quilted Maple must be stunning too

My New LB is such a joyride , been roasting my bowls to the edge over the weekend and the taste is just phenomenal all the way through :rockon::clap:

The gnarly is heavy - different if you're used to a lighter weight LB. I kinda like it, but I will probably float back to my Cherry DD. I am in testing mode right now. I built a couple of units, intentionally with minor differences. I guess you'd call them prototypes that will set the pace for the next round of minor tweaks. I'm finding that the denser body of this gnarly walnut adds an unexpected dimension to the whole heat transfer formula. I think the large vent holes are a must for the dense woods.

Had my 9/11 medical today. All good, waiting on blood work, but I don't expect any problems. Passed the lung function test with flying colors, resting heart rate was 62 and blood pressure 110 / 58, and cardiogram was uneventful (that's a good thing). Not bad for someone who was a NYC firefighter for over 20 years, as well as a daily user for over 40 years (vaping 3 or 4).

Okay, enough about me and how LB is improving my health, let's take a look at Quilted Maple. This is before the final buff, but you can see the glistening even at this level. Lightweight and resilient feeling, I love the feel of it in my hand. The illusive quality that gives quilted maple its claim to fame is actually and illusion.

*These waves turn from dark to light and take sharp turns which cause a natural distortion to the eye. It makes the wood look alive when it is moved or viewed at a slightly different angle because of the differential light reflection or refraction that is caused by the stripes (it causes a natural illusion to the eye).*

That's really beatifully kinda makes me wish woulda that instead of the walnut. Can't wait see more pic's.

Bet the heavy weight walnut is nice to handle and both should be cool to stair at after a stem or two.:drool:

The LB is set apart from other vapes, being each special in their on way!

Tube order being filled, assembly in progress, (about half way there), everything coming together. The back plates and battery gauges still need to be built. Each batch tends to evolve just a bit, as my processes improve. For example, the cloth backed one inch sandpaper rolls I've recently acquired enable the highest quality edge on the top and bottom (end grain) of Lil' Bud. And it's not just about a rounded, glass like edge, but pleasing to the eye and uniform.

The stock for the next batch of figured walnut and quilted maple has arrived. I guess this is batch 8 stock, because there are only a couple of batch 7 slots open. Of course, let's not forget about the old standby's of cherry and walnut. I still think Cherry is my favorite. Sipping on one right now.
