iHeat 510 Heater Cartridge

Easywider

Simple is the way
@sickmanfraud here’s some instructions. I believe there’s some pictures around somewhere as well.
Great to get your I-Heat to fit the Disguiser you'll have 3 steps:

1- enlarge the stem hole with sand pare rolled in a tube, it's a plastic part and it might be done in a couple of minutes.
2- remove the 3 top screens to be able to screw the IHeat heater and replace them when it's done.
3-y the last step is the most difficult but will be done in a handfull of minutes with the right tool, y ou'll see by yourself the magnetic metal cover will not fit the Iheat body and I wasn't feel comfortable to use it without this shield cause when I power it on I apply some pressure on the atty itself which is not good for the 510 connexion... so you have to get a metal file to get the 2 top magnets emplacements filed enough to fit the Iheat body, you haven't to file it until the magnets themselves, stop just an hair before, check every few file's hit.

I expect you'll like the compact design and the dual batteries offer a great longlife, enough for 4-7 days of daily use (I use some others vapes too!) but I didn't managed to find a good TC setting and prefer to use it in power mode, I think the TC feature is outdated cause very slow to hit the temperature protection and seems rather inaccurate.

I've read the hcigar has problems fitting certain batteries. I'm still not sure whether to keep it but I'd like to know which batteries those who have it are using.

Hi @sickmanfraud , since I enlarged the top plate's hole (step n°1 of my mod's post @Easywider edited above) it can fit the stem in and out without any issue. Although if I want to remove the Iheat heater I have to unscrew the 3 screws on the top plate since it's too tall to be able to screw/unscrew it without to remove this top plate and its screws.

I did not hear anything about this. I think that if you stick with LG HG2 batteries you will be fine.

If you have any other 18650 cells around you can be sure and then get another )or more) of the batteries that you know fit.

HI everyone! Happy Boxing Day ! I'm P.A.M. , here is my new sorcerer stick !

@Alan - thank you , Sir. Exquisite wood, exceptional work! Communications always so detailed and elaborate. Alan still had my shipping address from my HI log purchase in dec 2016. That's wizard like stuff on its own right there! lol you're awesome man, it's part of why you're the best !

IMG-3454.jpg

As seen above , In early December, I received 1 oak 2.5" roasting tube with glass insert. One end is 18mm tapered , the other 14mm tapered . What a beauty . I immediately started using it with my ondemand Lil' Bud portable made by @Bravesst at Vapwood. fantastic results to an already pretty stoke ride !

I also received a 4" long Cherry roasting tube with glass insert , this one I saved to break it in with the iHeat cartridge, opting to save a new stem for a new vape experience .

Last but not least, received this magnificent, marvellous, Purpleheart iHeat Cartidge . Drop dead gorgeous !

My stupid ass had not ordered my mod box early enough and with shipping delays added to my late purchase , I ended up not receiving till last week. Being so close to Christmas and not wanting on the naughty list, I decided to wait till Christmas night to fire it up ! The perfect Christmas gift, regulated ondemand convection, clean , vapor! Well done @Alan ! My first session with the iHeat was the most perfect first session I've had with any vape .

IMG-3455.jpg

I am no stranger to the instant Heat the iHeat heating coil provides being a seasoned Lil' Bud user (which consists of same coil design and materials). It surely was a big help and huge factor in getting that perfect first sesh. I've only tried wattage mode so far but know this will be a fun , top shelf quality vape to chill with.

@Bravesst , I've been LB'ing my cherry LB with a d-020 rig lately ;) it's awesome ! Figured out last night that putting a silicone sleeve over 14mm end of my oak tube described above makes the seal with my 18mm rig joint . Seems to offer more control then my previous sleeve on stock stem approach . Either way, video to come mate !

here below is a photo of the cooling roasting tubes inside without a screen.

Also, below is the sbody Macro II DNA 75 mod lighted up when hitting the fire button ! It suprised the crap out of me as was not expecting it to. It lights up red (the color in pic isn't representative much). Bothers me less now then at first, liking the mod box so far for the price :)

Will report more later...

Thank you , Alan!

@Easywider - Thanks for posting photos. They look great. Glad you are enjoying it.

@aoaiwof - The 12v input base unit for the iHeat is voltage controlled, so it is possible to control it with a VV mod box. It is just so nice to have the wattage and also temperature control. In wattage mode, the pre-heat time should only be about 2 seconds without drawing. The draw speed should be appropriate for the wattage level for best results. I don't need any pre-heat time using temperature control mode on my DNA75C mod box that has a 75w kick at the start to get the coil up to temperature quickly. I just push the button and start drawing vapor immediately.

@PPN - Glad to hear your are enjoying it daily. The photos look great. Thanks for posting. The iHeat really blends into that unit.

@P.A.M. - Glad everything arrived safely and you are enjoying it. Thanks for posting the photos. The purple heart wood has end grain on two sides which make them look a little dark and side grain on two sides which really shines in the sun. Definitely harder to turn and finish than straight grain wood. Nice to hear your first session went well. Having the LB, you knew what performance to expect. The spiral coil design is pretty much identical to what is inside the LB. It has been a game changer for me. The batteries last so long, and I get instant vapor. A great combination.
Hope the modified tubes perform a little better than stock tubes. Glad to hear the silicone sleeve allows you to use the tube in a water piece.

I've been having some trouble with my iHeat as of late, it's baffling and I'm hoping for some enlightenment. My iheat arrived with a resting resistance of .33 and sometimes it'll drift to .34 but no big deal, I make the appropriate adjustments in TC to match the desired heat. The heater has been married to the bronze Reuleaux DNA 250 since day one and I never switch atomizers. The iheat gets used every few days so it hasn't been abused or misused in any way but when I picked up the device a few days ago I have a resistance value of .40ohms. Haven't been able to figure out why the resistance shot up so much, I did the atomizer analyzer on ebscribe today and it confirmed the high value. Anyway, TC no longer works because I hit temp protect with the new resistance. Anyone knows what why this happened and if it's user fixable? The screw is tight on the bottom of the iheat and all contacts are clean.

@almost there: I feel your pain mate! :\

Contact resistance is possibly much more of a bitch than what we all think. Even when fully screwed in, oxygen probably finds a way through. Using non-plated contacts in a non-wiping situation is already a terrible idea in the first place. Or well, it could be solved by swapping attys in and out often but we all know that it creates other problems down the line...

All copper and its alloys will oxidize no matter what we do over time and that oxide film is quite hard to remove. Try some mild abrasive instead of just cleaning and hopefully you might get your original resistance reading back?

Getting the iHeat consistent in TC mode has been quite the adventure for me too. The latest episode happened after I tweaked my PI settings. For some reason I can not really explain, I had to bump the temperature a lot (around 40°C up) after these changes. Then a few days ago it felt too hot and I had to lower the temperature somewhere in between... This is puzzling really but I stopped trying to understand, I just go by taste and throat harshness now, with ABV color checking when in doubt.

@almost there not a fix but a work around. You can lock your ohms back to .33 in Escribe.
The funny thing is I keep the ohms locked to secure the .33 resistance i like best. The past few times after I wake my device up from sleep to use it automatically goes to temp protect when fired. Usually I'll fiddle around a little bit and it'll be back in TC. This last time it didn't work so I unlocked the resistance, took off the iheat, reinstalled it and that's when I discovered the resistance has gone up to .40 now. Thinking it must be wrong I connected it to escribe and it confirmed this change. Funny thing is all my other atomizers read correct on the reuleaux so the change is in the iheat.

Edit-went back to escribe and inputted the .33 ohms, locked the resistance but no go, won't allow TC, have temp protected warning still. Guess making such a large change won't fool the mod.

Well, I'm really no specialst in all the box mod TC stuff, but from my experience with cartridge & resistor heaters in log vapes (I build logs myself for a hobby) I can tell, that their resistance always goes up a notch, after the first 12 hours of initial heat up or so. Freshly installed 20ohm resistor will yield about 7,4w at 12,2v. 10 - 20 hours of uptime later, it'll yield maybe a mere 6,7w with 12,2v applied, where it will settle at about 22ohm then.
So there seems to be some initial heat degradation happening to the heater, followed by a plateau, before eventually crapping out somewhen in the far future

It happened a couple of times to me too. Unscrewing IHeat and screwing it back (even without unscrewing it all the way) did the job immediately
I wiped iheat threads a couple of times but screwing it did the job already. Besides this TC works very well for me

@almost there - The sudden jump in resistance is puzzling. Do you have any other mod boxes that also give you that same resistance value?

@sickmanfraud - The voltage controlled base was one of the reasons the iHeat has a 510 connection. The heater cartridge portion has become the more popular choice as mod boxes these days have so much more control over the coil than the simple voltage control the base unit offers. The battery life is also so good that I don't need to change them during the day, so they can just charge at night while in the mod box. It is so nice not having a cord.

@P.A.M. - Thanks for posting the photo and happy new year. The force is strong with you.

Here is some spiral coil porn from a batch I just finished. They have now all had their final tweaking and have been burned off. I also finished a batch of ss foil liners, so the only thing left to do now is turn some wood and install them. Hoping to get more units made this year than last year. Always so many other projects that also require my time.

Just a small pause here to share I'm using my Iheat with the crappy SS TC mode from my Movkin with great success. After several tries and mistakes I found the sweet spot using it at 320-340°F and a 38w power, there is no tcr to set since I'm using the stock SS TC mode and the Disguiser doesn't offer this feature (there is only power mode, Ni mode, Ti mode, SS mode and CC mode).

I get a lot better success using it with a bubbler cause I can see the vapor build and can adjust my draw to my liking (slower to increase clouds density and faster to avoid hotspots or burning accents) . If I put the load far as possible from the heater I get the best evenly extracted abv (and less stirs) but I have to draw for longer, it's easier to do that with a water filtered session since the bowl is inverted gravity will keep the load where you want, if used normally the load fall down close of the heater, too close and you get hot spots easily and you have to stir between each hits. This is a problem I have with every "load in the stem" vaporizers I own, you can fix it using a basket screen or a screen stucked but it will be a pia to remove and replace for stirring.

At the previously mentionned settings, paired with a bubbler (inverted bowl) and with some good enough flowers I get some very medicating, cloudy and tasty sessions, my first Alan's vape and it's a keeper!

Finally got my iHeat running with temp control on a Reuleaux dna250 using @HerbieVonVapster's FC profile (thanks man!) Had a nice big bowl in a custom bent stem milking flavors from 330F stepped up by 12 every few hits as I rotated the stem and stirred a couple times. I finished it off at 393 as flavor was drained. Not too bad for a start!

Here is the RX mod with my 14mm tipped dark walnut stem + osage orange iHeat:

Thanks for posting the photos. It looks great on that mod box. Nice combination. No overhang at all. Hope you are enjoying the DNA board as much as I do. I get instant vapor after pushing the fire button. The heat is so fast.

I love my PH iHeat cartridge. It's la crème de la crème ! so far my IHeat comes out on special occasions only such as Xmas day or New Year's Eve, or when the mood is right such as now or when I have time to truly sit and enjoy a 30 toke session à la @KeroZen .

I love being able to glide really low in wattage/temp before going about things like I normally do. Tonight , I started at 25.5watts on the Macro II DNA 75 for a few draws, give it a stir , few more draws, raise wattage , few draws, baked and now writing this mid session :D .. I could have probably started even a lower, perhaps with less visible cloud.

the beauty to customize your hits , Hit after Hit , is quite phenomenal .

Every time I use it I dig it and its wood grain figure , more and more .

IMG-3580.jpg

Otherwise I use my beloved , rugged , trusted , unregulated Lil'Bud by Vapwood as my DD. @Bravesst , like @Alan build exceptional vapes! The LB is quick, reliable, Unbreakable, undeniably efficient and powerful . The IHeat provides the same quality vaporizing experience the LB does plus hands you the key to the city, you're the new sheriff in town!

I will try to prep a video of my IHeat in action shortly, perhaps add sub-titles to compensate for my thick french-Canadian accent.:lmao::rofl:

My iHeat is my DD, having replaced my Air with its on-demand capabilities. I've given up on TC at this point because I've not nailed it yet, and VW is doing the job more than well enough. I've been cruising on a solid 27W for a while, using an S+B capsule and a recessed basket stem to catch small particles, no hemp packing. Usually takes a hit or two to get up to temp, but then I can milk huge clouds. I think I prefer it with a bit of draw restriction, so I might put some hemp back in. Now I'm trying it at 30W instead, I find I don't have to draw as slowly when it is getting more juice. Always love picking my iHeat up, the finish is so beautiful, you know you're in for a good inhale :) Thanks @Alan

My iHeat is my DD
 Yeah baby!!

my IHeat is my best vape . Only reason its not my DD is that I'm still "babying" it. I get full enjoyment just looking at it, lol. It's better then my LB , but my LB is just an all around Beast , a work horse that doesn't give its place easily. It's a good problem to have .. if I manage to save enough for a LB Elite , then I'll have a really , really good problem

I did some flavour chasing of different strains with a friend last night using the IHeat . Was fun , and so tasty, my buddy was walking around sniffing the clean vape aroma in the room. then we got a bad foul tasting strain. really gross stuff but good laughs, haha .,really weird, I started a thread about it

...craving the IHeat while writing this. It will become a daily driven machine like my LB no doubt.

Well... you better baby it indeed, as even if it contains no glass it's unfortunately not indestructible... Accidents happen sadly, and my iHeat + mod fell from my pocket while I was looking for my keys just in front of my house door...

The bamboo shell cracked all the way long... It's still more or less usable, but the stem doesn't lock in place as well as before and I imagine it produces a non optimal vapor/air ratio.

(crappy picture sorry)

I'll see if I can find a way to fix it...maybe some kind of ring? Don't tell me to use tape as I'd prefer to avoid getting parasitic smells from hot adhesives and whatever plastic the tape would be made of.
