Discontinued Hopper io

This old desktop works great but it's very sloppy. Anyone have a desktop as efficient as an io?

I think we've already given you plenty of suggestions right? No desktops yet? What you want is a log vape, heat island is my favorite because you can get it the cheapest and purest by emailing alan@toasty-top.com but there is also underdog, e-nano, and woodscents, for classic traditional log vape styles... Temp stepping with them is different though, better to keep it at one setting, and move your load accordingly, but I prefer to just to do quick one hitter bowls with mine.

Is it clean? Have you cleaned the backend and contacts recently? I know some folks have had backend issues, various ones, yet I’ve never had them with my OG (‘16) and IO (‘20). Light ISO swabs and Blu-Tac on everything does the trick. I’ve not had mechanical issues with either of my backends.

No actually never did, and it seems pretty clean, because like I said it's hardly been used, weird for that to be the case? Slight slight slight black dot here and there, does not seem worth cleaning, does not seem like enough to give these kind of problems, with the actual clicker... Never ever needed to clean my original this way either... I did get some of that tac to make sure my TM was clean though, it doesn't seem to really make a difference honestly? I mean I've never had any issues with my TM I guess... But that tac is so sticky and annoying to work with it gets like stuck in the threads lol

Okay. Thanks. I keep hoping something new will come along.

I like the fact that logs seem to be designed for one efficient convection hit. Not seeing many difference between the brands. The HI looks fine.

Do logs tend to smell when not in use? It's it mainly the glass roasting tube that smells? The Old EZ Vape looks clean but the wand unnecessarily long hose always has a strong weed smell. I would have to clean everything with ISO each time to begin to control the smell.

Sounds like I'll have to decide between a log or a TinyMight for twice the price.

No, the log itself has no smell, you can leave it plugged in 24/7 so it is always ready to go when you are, though I don't do that myself haha

Yes as you use a piece, the bowl and the vapor path can pick up smell, I like to use 14 or 18 mm WPA glass stem, even dry through a hook, mostly through water though, but I never really use any silicone tubing with mine...

Silicone tubing picks up much more smell than glass, and it's much longer, generally not such a clean way to vape in my experience compared to glass.

Haha yeah, for the price, you might as well get set up with a heat island bamboo model from Alan with stems and power supply you'll still be well under $150, first for now. Then save up for the TM, although the TM can just work like a portable log, more versatile, on demand battery power full temp range dial, temp stepping is a dream with it! Of course Alan also makes iHeat, which also is available as a 510 attachment, and/or can plug in with a base, to be used instant on demand, with a dial to control as well, but that is one of his most expensive offerings I believe

WOW it finally happend..my back end is acting up after my 2 yr anniversary...I swapped my original hopper back end and put it on the IO and back in business..The main problem with these is the back end clicker going wonky..the heater seems robust and strong...Up and running again instantly only because my backup hopper..otherwise I'd be out of service 😂
Good and bad 2yr anniversary news!

A long time ago in an HL galaxy far, far away - and even recently via a private chat with someone - it was suggested soaking the entire backend (and entire body per my private chat with someone) in ISO may resolve issues. It might loosen the backend mechanism and remove undue residue around and behind the heater. I’ve not tried either though the person on the other end of my private chat had and it worked for him, at least the heater was performing better. I’m not recommending doing so, though with significant drying time or ways to dry out the parts it’s plausible. Do at your own risk, that’s all.

Regarding Blu-Tac, if it’s not too thin it shouldn’t get stuck in threads. Mine never does with my Hoppers and TM. It removes the black stuff well. My Hoppers’ threads get far dirtier than the TM’s and that’s because the Hopper’s threads are in the air paths.

Holiday weekend regards to all! :peace:

I bought blu-tac, good to have around. Never needed it. After a session, I QTip swap both the outside and inside with 190 proof ethanol. Good and ready to go the next time. Just about all the parts can be easily cleaned if you are diligent, EXCEPT the area under the bottom screen, and vapor that collect in that heater area.

@Shit Snacks I think you should try cleaning the back end threads, including matching threads in the body. Use iso and swab, or blue tac first, then the iso.
But really, it sounds like you've got the dodgy clicker kind of issue...

For that, some of us have used electrical contact cleaner (a type that says it is residue-free) and literally doused the whole back end, like a deep internal cleaning. Then waiting a few hours for full evaporation of that cleaner before attempting to turn the io on.
I have found this to be a solution that can 'work' for some time, like a few weeks or so before the issue returns.

That could work with my sticky clicker. I can't tell if my clicker is sticky because it's gradually gotten dirty inside (could be plain old dirt and grime, it's not in the vaporous resin path) or because the metal components are wearing away and increased friction is resulting (that's my fear). Removing the back end and soaking it in 91% ISO for a few hours followed by drying with a hair dryer might work.

I think I’m confused by the discussion above. Are there wall adaptors to run the Grasshopper rather than the battery?
Yes it sounds like there was a wall adapter for it that someone made and sold. I’m sure there were not that many made.

Yes but it was for OG GH
(need to mod for IO attempt)

This is concerning. I will see if I can schedule some time and see what's going on.
Back in March you said you were going to try to "see what's going on."
The rest of us only have pure speculation on which to hang our hats.
Have you learned anything that you'd care to share?
Is the ride over?
IO's have not been available for months, pretty much only batteries are going out...

We've noticed that Hoppers are no longer on your site, though your profile still says,

I understand that you have said many times that your role as Representative is very limited and that you just want to be helpful where you can be, and that is fine.
But surely you must have something to offer all the folks here on the topic of the state of affairs at HL?
Thanks.

That sure would be nice. I can’t get a reply at all from them.

Sorry there is nothing I can do. I was ghosted for too long like the rest of you. The mods can remove my stupid second badge this site requires and I'll take the above out of my profile. I tried and genuinely thought this would get better when I took this on (without compensation mind you) but unfortunately I was wrong.

Please do..Can you also ask what their warranty backlog looks like and if spare parts are available..batteries..backends etc..Ask if they have figured out the failure point yet and if not how and why 😁 thanks

Kinda just hoping it's not boarded up or a different business all together. Rent in Boulder is $$$
