Discontinued Hopper io

This is pretty much standard operating procedure for HL.

expect to be treated worse than any other company has ever treated you; no matter what they tell you, until you actually physically see proof of it happening, at best there is a 50% chance of it being true.

those of us that have been along for the ride for a # of years expect this at this point. Read back in the Grasshopper thread if you want to see hundreds of pages of people complaining …

if I were you I would switch to plain Ti or cancel …

Finally got a $7 scale and weighed a load before and after 11 routine potent hits with the io. I had no idea what to expect, but was surprised to see a whopping 43% reduction in mass. Presumably a high percentage of the loss was moisture, even though I purposely let the weed dry a bit before vaping. Weed is supposedly 90% water when growing. This weed has resisted drying, thus it wasn't ground fine enough IMO. This might or might not explain why there is some greenish color remaining in the spent pile. Without knowing how much of the 43% mass was water and how much was "psychoactive", this is mostly useless info. Maybe I will see a significant difference with different grinds, dryness or strains.

If you increase the weight on the scales, cheap scales usually have a sweet spot in the 1+g range for accuracy, you might see a small difference in measurement of the plant material. Averaging 3 or more readings could hone it in further. Typically I'd expect about a 1/3rd reduction in mass after vaporisation. Although it has been a while since I spent the time to measure it.

There is also the issue of varying extent of vaporising thoroughness, which is what I suppose you are testing? Do you have any control samples from other vapes?

That's the photo I sent to HL when asking for a hotter Ti body. The darker SS io is more diminished. Now I'm interested in trying to measure the difference on a scale. It is clear that there is more of a chemical change in the top SS io ABV due to the colour, and there is likely more moisture in the Ti ABV too.

Back when I worked in crop reception for big pharma, I was often measuring moisture content for alkaloid poppies. The site required <16% moisture levels for mitigating a fire risk hazard in the storage warehouses.
~14% should feel bone dry, with some springyness occuring in the plant matter above 16%. Cured cannabis should have relatively low values, I would guess from 12-20% would be an expected/acceptable range.

I look forward to a science sesh in the near future :science:

I flew with my Hopper to Canberra recently, so nice to take out and about sampling some different strains in different locations. I didn't bring any glass but found a really neat glycerine coil piece at Off Ya Tree. I have barely been using the batteries lately, and found that 2 cells was enough for my cousin and I to get pleasantly baked with over about 6 hours of usage having maybe 6-8 chambers each. For this reason and many more I am happy with my choice in chosen portable (using any other would have been a big hassle from carry-on going through security, to ease of concealment in the field and at base, to rapidity of use and easily stowing it right after, not to mention the sheer efficacy was ideal).

It's very convenient and took over from the less enjoyable joint/bong archaic method, which is why I consider it one of the best treasures and value it as such.

It is not so simple to get a good hopper, it has always taken much patience and good will, with some luck on top. This sucks, but so does much of everything, and often things are meaningfully bad instead of just seemingly needlessly frustrating.

The old mantra seems to be a long winded reality because the truth is, good things are worth waiting for and there is plenty of goodness out there waiting to find each of us. Patience grasshoppers, the device might offer a quick fix but it itself is not one. I definitely appreciate that the Hoppers in my life for 5 years running have been absolutely incredible, but I hold no illusion, it is mostly the plant to be thankful for, and luckily at least that is infallible.

I figure most are thoroughly enjoying the io (should they finally have it). There are still potential issues but it is night and day to the early days. Perhaps night with a full moon.

An update from HL is well overdue, it would be nice to hear how things are on their end...

It's a real pity that ultra portable instantly pocketable zero wait time vaping isn't more developed and offered from multiple parties already.

Off Ya Tree had Volcanos, Pax's, Da Vinci's and a whole shelf of inferior-to-me and mostly more expensive options. All cheap import goods made with limited vision and tuned for profit, it's all the market cares about across the board. I'm very happy with my exclusive and far-advanced kit, wonder if the clerk remembered my name dropping of the BCG when picking up an overpriced low quality alloy 2-piece grinder. I wish more would prioritise and offer the quality I gravitate to when seeking product. The reason I deal with HL is because there is no one else offering an equivilant, so with nothing to compare to, and witnessing their continual efforts, so be it that so many issues remain unsquashed. Those issues aren't really a big deal, but it sure sucks when you are left craving. It's not half bad at least knowing what you want, relying on someone else to offer it is always a nuisance. No one else will ever build such a ridiculous device and as crazy as it may be, I am very happy for HL to keep trying!

I wouldn't use them as a contract manufacturer but buying one off devices from them has easily been worth it and I've had more success from their io vape product than any other, including the Sublimator I purchased for 97% off. I hope more people find this crazy luck I've managed in quitting smoking, it is a big part of how I did quit smoking.

Had a sesh in a place much like my old house from my heavy bong hitting days whilst up here scoring grape ape and OG kush.
Wow do I wish I got a Hopper instead of the MFLB in 2011. What a waste some of those subsequent years turned out being.

The hopper is for a particular type like me, actually allowing me to hugely upgrade my lifestyle, I wish I did even earlier, extemely happy to be on this side of the equation.

So I just noticed, now the website says for color hopper IO: "estimated October 2021"

I would guess new orders, however it still says May 2021 for plain Ti, well stainless does not say anything at all, as if instant?

I finally caved and sent them an email, I have no interest in waiting til October, so I said if that is the estimate for mine they can go ahead and cancel it... Otherwise I asked if it would be shipping soon so who wants to bet they say it will be shipping soon this week?

Let’s see how long they take to reply. That’ll be the tell-tale sign. Something ain’t right in Hopperville (again) for these delays. It’s like deja vu all over again for some. My 9+ old TI IO continues to rock nearly daily. My favorite on-the-go vape and it gets plenty of home use too. Cheers. :peace:

I had an impulse to purchase one this morning since my OG stainless seems to be running cool. The site won’t accept payment and says to email support. I did so and received an auto reply stating they would be in contact within a few days. I think I’ll hold off a bit.
Question: Has anyone ever gone by the place to drop off or pick up a device? I’ll be in the Boulder area in a few weeks and thought I’d ask...

Well, thank goodness I can still get a Ti in May! :\

The change to an October date for any io is more than a little troubling. "Temporarily discontinued" would sound better this "five-months-more-than-the-already-more-than-a-year" bs.
But omg they wouldn't be able to pre-sell any!

The hang on their sales portal still has not be fixed? :uhoh:

It has been 2 months now since HL said they would send me a replacement ss body.

I sent my IO back end in for replacement a few days ago. Hope it gets back in a reasonable time. Probably get here sooner than my purple Ti I ordered before others that have recieved theres placed their orders.

I asked John a while back and he said my place in line had not been reached. What the fuck sort of scribble are the using for a timeline?

One major reason is because the crowd funding opportunities that helped Hopper Labs, Vapexhale, and others get off the ground just don't exist anymore. People still have vision, just no capital. And these consumer product type devices cost the most to develop, so it's hard to make progress.

It's funny, when THC Scientific announced the anticipated price of the Odyssey vaporizer, I, like many others, thought he was out of his mind.

But I honestly see it now. And I finally understand what he meant when he told me most people don't want to pay for the level of quality he wanted.

If I'd live in Colorado I'd visit them just to understand who is actually working there and how.

I tried to find interviews or videos about the founders but there are none in the last years. Most likely they don't want their names or pictures distributed because of all the bad PR...

The one person who may actually make money off of the Hopper Saga is the one who writes it all up in book form.

Just an FYI for everyone, it looks like the Hopper power adapters are back in stock
Very tempting.
Please, can anyone explain or describe the converter/adapter thingy? It plugs into AC? or needs a usb adapter to supply it power enough? (is 2 amp enough?)
The description says for IO you need an aftermarket adapter?
Is there a battery compartment? Is that for alternate, portable use of an 18650 or something?
thx in advance.
EDIT;
I see there are 2 'sleds'? so one is for a battery and one for AC and needs a wall adapter? What rating for adapter to power io?
EDIT 2;
I obviously need help here, I'm so confused, 7 am and,

I spoke to them and the new kit does NOT come with the 18650 battery sled.

Hi, posted a while ago about the weld on my hopper screen and how they never shipped my extra batteries. Well I got the batts delivered no problem and unit was working fine. Over the last couple of weeks I noticed it wouldn’t turn on and would need to unscrew the back end and remove battery also noticed the back end could be moved slightly side to side. Last night unable to get unit on and everytime I screw backend on lights come on for three seconds then go off and unable to get unit to turn on, sent email to hopper so will see what they say. I’m in the U.K. so bit of a pita. Hope everyone else is having better luck. Will update, hoping for a quick fix.

Try to get them to send you a back end when you supply tracking for yours rather than waiting for them to get it. Might save ya time.

Well they already wrote back early this morning, to apologize and say that my blue IO should be shipping within 10 days (presumably business days, so two weeks?) ...we shall see!

Maybe 10 Martian days. Hope you get yours soon! I could never decide which colorized one I’d want so I just went with the plain TI IO (and I have Ti OG too). Hope yours works well out of the gate like mine did and is still rocking nearly daily for 9 months. :peace:

Hi, thanks sounds like a good idea. Hopperlabs got back to me, they suspect it’s a short in the backend tried cleaning out as best I could will blow compressed air through it tomorrow will update either way.
I have had good luck with saturating the back end with WD40 Specialist contact cleaner. Hold the button down and make sure it gets inside and then turn the dial back and forth to clean the contacts. Then blow it dry and wait a while for the insides to dry.

Yeah I had blue TI from the original that I sold, really liked that shade and happy with the choice, we'll see if the color is different for this new IO though... I usually do choose blue, purple has grown some appeal for me though, outgrown the boring dark grey lol

Old & In the Way

This from HL yesterday.
First off, this template that opens all the updates with "Hi trev," seems odd, been this way for months and months.
The sister site?
Maybe someone with a little more web savvy can tell us why this might become necessary in a case like this?
The sister site as yet doesn't have the timing projections so, for instance, it doesn't tell a purchaser of a color ti that it will take until October, as it says on the main io site.

Hi trev,
We apologize for any inconvenience over the last few weeks. Payments are now being accepted at our sister site hopperio.com

The 15 sec auto shut off is too short.
To touch back on this...
By now you probably have noticed that the io will stay on (auto shutoff doesn't engage) if you are calling for heat, like drawing air through. So individual hits of much greater length are not really an issue. It's just not a "leave it on" sesh vape, in typical use anyway.
