Thanks for your interest,
@letter never sent. You are correct - I would like to try a different approach for selling the Flix, as the waiting list process for the Flux Deluxe has been frustrating for me and for many of you. I would like use the shopping cart/storefront features of my web site - currently turned off - to offer the inventory I have available at a given time, and replenish that inventory as I build 'em. If a color or coil size in in stock, it will be shown as available, and if not, it won't be. I'm still working on the details of this process and expect to share the info within another week or two, before the Flix goes on sale. Assuming there will be some demand for it, I will probably limit initial purchases from the the first batch to a max of two per person.
It is important for me to be clear about one big difference between the Flix and the Flux Deluxe: The Flix is going to be more "off the rack" than the FD, so I can build them more quickly and put more of these into people's hands, something that is all but impossible with the FD due to its customization options, as well as the
many extra steps it takes to produce one.
I'm thinking of offering the Flix in only one or two coil sizes at first (I'm still evaluating this), with glass coil inserts only, at least initially. There
will be some options to further customize these in the future, so be please be patient if you have your heart set on some configuration that isn't immediately available.
Standardization is an important part of the expected price, by the way - customization takes time and effort, which means a higher sales price.
Standardization keeps the price down.
This first Flix case order is for 200 pre-machined cases in six colors, and I'm still waiting to see how long it takes my vendor to fulfill this order in current business conditions. I'll be ready to order more as soon as I get a sense of how these are being received, which colors are the most popular and need to be ordered in greater quantities, etc. I
think the Flix will be popular, but I don't want to
ASSume that and end up owning a thousand cases I can't use.
As a benchmark, I received two 200 unit batches of FD cases in about six weeks, just before the virus closed down the manufacturing facility in China, so a cadence of 200 cases every 4-6 weeks may be possible. I'm still working through those FD cases, BTW, as the Flux Deluxe simply refuses to let me make it quickly.
The Flix is a simpler device and more straightforward to build, but I won't know how the actual manufacturing process goes until I have all of the parts and start building them and selling them. By the way, the "final candidate" circuit boards* I mentioned earlier today are very important milestones, as I want to begin building Flix PCBs for production as soon as I settle on the final PCB arrangement. I would like to build ahead.
That may be a longer answer than you wanted,
@letter never sent , but I wanted to share my plans. Comments welcome, criticisms less so, lol.
* For anyone who cares, I ordered a 2nd batch of "final candidate" boards tonight, a variation of the first PCBs I ordered earlier today. Unless I screwed up, one of these should become the board for the first production run.
