So, for someone who hasn’t tried one yet, should I throw myself on one of the last 9 or go for the X ?

Is the 9 more conduction oriented than the X?

I would certainly like more airflow, but I’m really looking for conduction as I already have a few good convection vapes.

The complete removal of the oven seems to grant a few more points for the 9 as well.
Might be more durable for the long term ?

X is slicker, more powerful and more pocketable ?

For those who tried both, which one is your favorite ?
Please don’t say the 7

FW9 has more air flow than FW7 for example, but it can be used the same exact way to maximize conduction, so I wouldn't worry about that aspect at all honestly

The 9 feels more pocketable to me. The X has a more open airflow and feels far more convective. Heats up faster too.

after replacing the glass stem of the FW9 with a bamboo stem, the airflow has increased luxuriously, easier to draw and more smoke, the vapor is cool and thick at 380F.
I enjoy it quite a bit and when I read reports about strange practices of other manufacturers and their strange devices containing strange materials......
as I say, now only a toad can surprise me, but even though I recently won one in a raffle, it doesn't mean that I won't wait for it ....
until then and maybe forever

After receiving my X about 2 weeks ago, I think I've made the right adjustments to get it to perform well. First, I bumped the temps up; with the 3rd preset now being max temp. Next, I swapped out my 1-2 year-old battery (Sony VTC5D) for a brand new one (Molicel P30B). I've also gotten the pre-heat timing down, as well as the hang of the right draw speed.

With the above adjustments, mine performs a lot like other well-regulated devices (e.g. Arizer, etc.) - as far as providing predictable vapor at each preset, and then even and "full-enough" extraction by the end (with some minimal black specs). I do sometimes wish the X could be a little more untamed and ride the line like my 7 does, but it's providing a worthwhile experience regardless.

Email out from Marc this morning to address early unit issues with the FATX:
I have good news regarding fixes for a few problems people have reported and one new one. For all domestic customers I will provide a mailing label so you can send your unit back to have the issues below fixed. I can't make international return labels so International customers will get a $20 store credit if they send their unit in. Due to limited parts availability in the short term I ask that you hold off for a couple weeks before sending your unit in, unless it is currently unusable. Feel free to take longer than that too, there is no rush if your unit is working fine now. Please reply to this email when you are ready to send your unit in.

Glass Lid Breakage Issue: This problem has been solved! I have new glass lids that will not break (at least not very easily). Glass is superior to ceramic because it is non-porous so it is much easier to clean and is less prone to sticking closed due to resin buildup, so I'm glad this works. This also requires a new wooden lid which will be included with the fix

Storage Parts: I have all the parts, however some users have reported difficulties installing them. I will install these correctly if you send your unit in and make sure they are "broken in" so it will be easier for you to install.

Oven Temperature Calibration: Some users have reported that their units are running colder than expected. I have confirmed that there was a bug causing some units to be mis-calibrated and the temperatures on affected units will be around 3-4 temperature steps too low.

Storage Lid Clogging: I doubt anybody has noticed this yet, but after using the storage compartment a lot, the slot that the lid fits into may become clogged with herb, preventing the lid from fitting properly. The fix is that I am adding a small hole above the mouthpiece hole as shown below. This allows you to use a paperclip to clean out the clogged herb as needed.

Has anyone with the new FATX successfully used the herb storage? I’m not sure I’d even use it as it seems problematic. I usually tap out my ABV after the bowl is spent and will have to be super careful not to eject the unvaped herb. Also, not sure I’d want to add unnecessary smell to the vape as well. I think I'd prefer a smaller vape sans herb storage. Thoughts?

I'm using just the base piece, and not the metal storage lid. I left the base in just to keep bits out of the middle of the device (and to avoid having to remove it after Marc installed), vs. using it for herb storage. This was because I'd noticed the storage lid was sticking up a tiny bit at one point, and I didn't want to risk damaging the wood lid as it was sliding back in.

This sounds good, it actually makes me kind of wish, even though we love the ceramic chamber, that he was able to make the chambers glass too! How nice would that be... Like the old firefly design, but if it was fully removable and more glass all around, so pure and definitely easy to clean too :brow::luv:

*Finally* got some nice 18650 batteries (sony VTC5D from Orbtronic) - they got lost in the mail (what's up with that lately!)

Regardless, as my first Firewood vape in a long time the learning curve for the vibration interface was a bit daunting. It's intuitive now, but at first I was a bit confused haha. After I figured it out however, I must say this vaporizer is insanely impressive - I'm really pleased with the build quality, design, and performance.

I was not expecting that sort of performance from a portable, I'm very pleased. Although I will admit it seems to run a bit hot at the lower temps - 310F seems like it's cooking closer to 350F, but it might also be material I'm using currently for testing (not the best)

That said, I am working with someone on some custom stems for the vape (maybe a 14mm WPA as well), and definitely a custom slim case to hold the vape and some spare parts. As usual I'm always open to special requests lol

Forgive me if it's been asked before, but any idea what size dosing capsule fits the F.A.T. X?

Yeah USPS is struggling for sure currently, and others, 18650 battery store was pretty quick though, I ordered from orbtronic way back can't remember how fast lol

Yeah exactly haha at first it feels daunting is the perfect word, but it is surprising how quickly it becomes intuitive second nature, so the full temp range is at your fingertips

Yeah I run mine very low, 310 is a great first temp setting, I turned mine down with FW7 and FW9 so I am sure I would do so here (I like long slow draws with this)

maybe a 14mm WPA as well

If you can make it at a right angle that would be ideal I think, personally I like to keep the FW level

None really, not designed for them at all

Been a Firewood user since the 4, love what Marc designs. I just received my FATX, feels and looks lovely in my hand but I have a problem. I’ve tried a few different batteries, tried all the pre-set heating levels but whenever I press the button to start the heater the unit rapidly buzzes at a consistent rate and will continue to do so until I take my finger off the button (no heat is produced). I’ve contacted Marc about this but has anyone else’s FATX done the same?
I have the exact problem. Before it started working after I left it alone. Now it’s just continuous buzz with no heat

Hello to all, anyone got the FAT X and Solo 3? I have a TM2 and my Solo3 is collecting dust. Will the FAT X collect dust as well? Is it almost the same as a solo3?

Yeah the FW10 is an amazing device, I've been using mine a lot the past few days. Just blown away by the performance.

Although I'm not entirely sure if my temp sensor is working properly. I've had the temp set to 300F and getting crazy clouds, but very little vape when I set the temp to 400F....... so I have a feeling my vape is running hot. But I haven't tried 430F to see what happens (I don't want to risk combustion lol)

So is the consensus from X owners that we're looking at 80/20 convection to conduction?

Basically looking to recreate this lizard's lifestyle:

Yeah honestly I've never even tried super high temps anymore really, I think maybe early FW7 testing, but not needed at all with FW9, if you can get full extraction where you are and have a good range then there's no issue imo! I always consider settings relative
