Firewood Vaporizer

A few pages back, i asked if it is true that there is no way to turn off the Firewood X.

I was assured that this is correct, and that i was silly to worry about this. I have no use for electronic devices that can't be turned off, so that led me to think the FW was not for me.

But i have continued to read about the device, and i have a question: Am i correct in understanding that the heater switches off if the button is not held down? The manual seems to say this is so:
The heater turns off whenever the button is released and will buzz once shortly thereafter to indicate shutdown.

So if it switches off if you stop holding the button down, what was meant by saying it can't switched off? Am i missing something here? Is there a video somewhere showing someone using one?

Correct, all the most recent Firewoods only turn the heater on when the button is pressed, and it turns off when the button is released.

From my memory part of the concern in that discussion was that there wasn’t a way to disable the button without removing the battery. Several folks mentioned that other Firewoods would occasionally engage when in a bag or tight pants, but the FWX would almost always engage when kept in pants pockets due to the easier to press button.

I guess I'll need to get rid of some clothes before I get the X.

Thanx for explaining. I think i actually understood that when i posted about the on/off issue before, and forgot.

I still find it a totally baffling design decision that there is no way to prevent accidental battery discharge short of removing the battery. Will probably buy one anyway.

Are most people using an external battery charger and swapping out the battery on their FW10 or are y'all using the internal USB charger?

Just curious which is better for the device - I kinda feel like it's maybe not idea to keep removing the wooden door all the time as it may wear out over time, right?

I'm also considering a protective 'heatshield' that will help protect your hands from the hot vape when running a long sesh. But I'm still planning out if it's even feasible - I want to cover the battery slot but I think most people still swap out batteries since it's faster and more convenient.

Speaking as a FW9 owner, I prefer to swap out batteries (between 5 Molicells) so I'm not draining and recharging the same battery.

In case (hah!) you missed it, @Duba is offering FATX leather covers that can obscure, or even cover the button with a flap making it beautifully and practical to carry around.

The battery door never became a problem with my heavily used 7. A good battery charger will look after your battery better than the X will. And finally, the usb-c port is a failure point. I'd only recommend using it as a back up charging solution used infrequently.

Thanks everyone - that was my suspicion. Indeed I've got an older Nitecore D2 that I've been using for years and figured everyone else was using an external charger, but that's good to know before I start prototyping :science:

Miboxer C4-12 is the best I've ever found and I've tried all the best recommended. It's the only one that will do 3A charging on all 4 ports simultaneously.

What's the point of constantly pulling the battery out of FATX? To save the battery and at the same time have the risk of damaging the wooden cover? I prefer to charge the battery inside the device, because it is convenient. If the battery loses its capacity, I will throw it away and buy a new one, the issue price is $ 10

I take the battery out of the device only occasionally, charging it in an external charger in the "power recovery" mode

Cheaper to replace a battery and a high quality battery charger than it is to replace a battery and a vape with a not as good charging function.
