Firewood Vaporizer

It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
Greetings all,

Hope everyone is doing well.

It's been a long while since I was last here - been dealing with a slew of life challenges - but I now come in search of guidance.

The time has come to replace my pile of aging 18650s.

I'm hoping to glean some insight as to the latest thinking on which brands and specific models seem to be best suited to our beloved Firewoods; specifically, the FW9.

I've been using Samsungs for a long time and I know Molicells were getting a lot of favorable mention here. Which models now best fit the "high drain, 20A discharge current" parameters that Marc calls for in the manual.

Thanks for your help,

moondog

I've always had good results buying from them.

That is where I have bought from the most as well! Haven't bought in a while though, I have plenty, even if they aren't that new, they all still work fine, but some don't last as long

That's where I'm at. All my remaining batteries are years old and are in constant rotation. They get tired as quickly as I do when walking up the stairs.

Hey folks, I wanted to ask about traditional hash in the FW9. I just got a temple ball of some nice hash and have been using it in a dynavap. I hear this thing is good for old school hash and was going to wrap a piece in some organic cotton.

I tend to like the lower temps with flower and often leave mine on 320F. If I wanted to get some good vapor off some hash, where would the lower end of the range be? I do like to keep it low because I want to get any terp flavor I can. I find after a few hits in a dyna the taste turns to what pencil shavings smell like. I know, sounds weird. Thanks!

Thanks friend!

BTW, I asked because these guys are having a big sale: https://www.18650batterystore.com

I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. I recently swapped out all my 18650's. Some were older, some newer. I didn't mark them so they all got mixed up and you never knew how long one would last. I just cleared house and started fresh with all new ones. I rotate for use in my FW9, TM2 and Starry for travel.

Can anyone recommend a glass bong on the smaller side that work well with the Firewood? I like the MkII Globe that Sneaky Pete sells but it's expensive and larger than I'd like.
Look on Aliexpress. The search function is a pain but if you search you will find options.

is this thing on?
What methods are available for safe deep cleaning the ceramic bits, the elbow like oven, bowl and spacer? I got a used FW9 and apparently is has some soaked-in ISO and resin / reclaim that I would like to eliminate. It's deep in the ceramics, just a cotton wipe would not be enough.

I usually soak ceramic pieces in ISO for a few hours, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and leave to dry for 24 hours. they don't come back pristine white, but clean.

OK, I think I’ve decided on a FW9 for my next VAS purchase. Are they likely to have a Black Friday sale, or should I just pull the trigger now? I know some smaller producers don’t really have sales.

The price dropped recently, to the same level it was at during Black Friday and 420 sales, so probably not, but no way to know for sure

Could you just torch it?

I would never torch ceramic, but I would also never torch steel screens like some people do, but yeah that seems like you would just blacken the ceramic more depending on the torch you can try cooking them in the oven or something might be safer too I think

so i have been playing with my new fw9 over the past week and i really love almost everything about it (i do think i like the fw7 better.

my main gripe with the fw9 is the button ... it feels flimsy like it might fall off at any moment and sometimes i can't even tell if it is engaged by feel (it usually is but without the buzzes i might think it hasn't engaged yet.)

other than that i really love this thing and it is in my main rotation!

I heard that the 9 is great with traditional hash, and with a little practice, it does in fact kick ass.

I recently jumped at an opportunity to buy some medical grade old school hash. Something I haven't had since my college days. Even the smell of the hash residue on the fingers takes me back 35 years. I've tried it a few ways in the 9, but what seems to work best for me is warming the hash on my finger tip and rubbing it into a bit of organic cotton. After pinching a tiny flat tab on the finger, I hold my finger over a candle to where it feels quite warm but not hot, and let that heat soften the hash. While it's still warm I pull the cotton apart, like taffy, a few times to really spread that hash oil all through the cotton fibers, then stuff the whole bit into a capsule.

At around 340F, it takes a bit to heat the hash up, but along the way you really get all these great flavors coming off. Once you get to temp, you get a strong terpy hit that packs a punch. I do my best to run the button as on-demand so not to continuously add heat. The sad fate of most concentrates is once you get beyond the first 3-4 hits, it starts to taste like reclaim. I'm sure there's a lot more medicine in those crumbly bits, but I usually move on to something else.

I recommend trying it if you can. It adds some nice variation to the rotation. :peace:
