Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
My blemmy blem blem arrived today. I have looked it over multiple times and can't find any blemish or anything out of the ordinary. The thing looks perfect. It is a tiny little bastard, but it sure has some heft to it.

I did a complete charge, iso wiped out the tub, then ran a calibration.

Loaded my first half BB dab, melted it, and got right on it. Great flavor on the first hit. Second and latter hits not much cloud at all. On checking it out, dab done gone, I don't think there was much left after the first hit and I only had it set on 420F.

The problem is it's hard to get some run time to practice using it. I get too fucked up, too fast. But a great first start!

That’s great, I’ve been trying to perfect the Cricket 1-hitter. Tiny size dab, and just the right temp. Big plus, not much to clean….
I see what folks mean when they say it can get dirty. Even half a BB, vapes well, but splatters like a thirsty hound dog in a water bowl.
I can also understand the want to find that tiny 1-hitter load.
What I think it does best so far, is give a great tasty first hit. You get the flavor that is masked by water in a bubbler e-rig setup.

I have ramped it up to 480 from 420F for a bit more cloud in the hit.

Just my initial thoughts. Nothing for sale here. ;)

I don't have a Cricket. But my experience with other wax pens and the Proxy tell me...sometimes hotter is better. At least when it comes to minimizing mess. Part of it might come down to more cooking time=less of the concentrate in liquid form. So slowing down the ramp up time might help too.

This is certainly true, and you can do that on the device. Temperature is tricky, too hot, boil up.

My own issue is the concentrates I have access to change each time I order, so I’m constantly having to adjust temps on the fly, same with my other oil devices. I have found if I go too low on temperature with oils, I cough more, and my assumption is, the oil isn’t vaporized enough. Too high a temp, and I cough from added heat, even devises through water, as I’m probably inhaling more vapor as well, and the effects are more sedative.

It’s a tough balance for rusty old lungs…. I guess at some point I’ll be a real candidate for full time edibles, so ENJOY while you can ….

I upped the heat up from 2 to 4 sec and maybe a little less mess. I got the directions off their website. Interesting, they don't mention the heat up adjustment in the manual. I've also settled around 475F for now. More than that and it starts getting a little warm for me.

I've been blasting some hash rosin through it and loving the flavor. With a half rice grain size dab, the temp settings give me a strong cloud on the first and second hit, then tapers off for the third and fourth hit.

Again, I'm a newb on this so don't take the following as a recommendation. I'm just reporting out here. For immediate cleaning, I first run a dry qtip through the tub. Then I have a box of 100 individual alcohol wipes. One of those really gets rid of the oil that gathers around the perimeter of the tub and along the mouthpiece gasket. Hopefully that won't fuck with the gasket. A bit more clean up work than the Core 2, but not bad. It bothers me to leave it all gunky looking for the next session.

I think the ISO fucks with the silicone. Black particles come off of mine now when I remove the tub to deep clean with an iso wipe (70%)

Interesting, haven’t seen that here. I use 2 QTips and 190 ethanol after every session.
I would “assume”… at this price point that Evolv would be using the highest quality silicone, perhaps “platinum cured”.
I’ll keep an eye on this, but no particles here so far.

In addition, those gaskets are quite close to the tub which gets pretty hot. I wonder if that heat is going to effect the gaskets. The gasket around the glass chimney sits right on top of the hot tub.

We would have to know what type of silicone those gaskets are made from. Some types can withstand heat much higher than 600f.
I haven’t noticed anything effecting my gaskets yet. I’d be more concerned if this was a no-name Chinese mod.

it can get dirty

Are you pre-melting your dab before putting the cap on ?
You can adjust the temp of cap-off also, I have mine at 200 F.
Pre-melt is especially needed with a quick ramp-up time.
If you have updated the firmware, or possibly not, you can hit the power button and + (right) button simulaneously to change the ramp-up time, so that it takes longer to get to your set temp. I have mine set at 5 seconds.
This allows the dab to melt down and be evenly distributed before hitting.
Also, hit it SLOWLY, barely a normal inhale. The more one draws on it, the more splatter there will be.
After some use, the vapor will condensate upon any area it came across, so, there will be some cleanup to keep your Cricket clean.
I find it's quite easy to clean up.
Anyway, hope these ideas reduce your splattering.

I received my Cricket last Thursday and have very much been enjoying getting to know it. I had some issues on my 1st day with consistency. I noticed later when I was plugging it in to charge it kept switching between the cap on and cap off screens. Just by holding the unit in my hand and every so slightly moving it back and forth. Crazy sensitive malfunctioning sensor. I disabled the cap sensor in Escribe and it's been nothing but smooth sailing since.

Love the minimalness of the unit. Super easy to keep clean, very smooth, and tasty hits. I'm running 60w at 495F, 5-second heat-up time. Usually, loading 1/2 - 3/4 of a BB.

Be nice to have a sleeve to cover the mouthpiece and where it connects to the body. It tends to separate in my pocket and then the tub gets filled with little pocket fuzzies.

I've had mine for about a week and have had the same experience across the board.

The cap is definitely a problem. I hope they come up with a solution, whether it's stronger magnets, or a sleeve or something else. It's just not pocketable as it is right now with the cap guaranteed to come off in pockets.

My cap on/off sensor was all over the place so I also disabled the sensor but then I checked for service packs in eScribe... I saw there was one available and once I installed it, the sensor became very consistent and stable.

As I haven’t used or bought mine for pocket carry, I understand for most that’s a MAIN selling point, I just carry a tiny oil cart. When I first received my Cricket, I immediately saw the cap coming off in one’s pocket as a potential problem.
At least the top and bottom are square, so a strong rubber band length wise should work.
As the magnets are part of the cap sensor, I doubt they would make them significantly stronger, and that would make access another issue.

Interesting, didn’t know that was an option.
I assume you just pre-melt with cap off, at the vape temperature for a few seconds?

Yesser it's in In escribe (mod --> mechanical )

With it disabled, I just pulse up until about 250f and then repeat. I didn't like it so much at first but have gotten a feel for it now and no longer monitor the screen temp so much.

That's good to hear because I kinda thought the cap-off pre-melt function was cool.

Going to check out the service pack, also think the preheat is super cool. I like to prewarm the tub for about 4-5 seconds before then slide in a little dab. It's also nice for cleaning up after.

I noticed this also and was going to ask if it was just my unit.

I'm used to magnetic fittings snapping firmly and securely into place, such as the lid on my BCG grinder or the cap on my terp pen. The cap on the cricket doesn't snap into place with authority. It's a bit weaker which makes it easier to take on and off, but sometimes it doesn't seat correctly without some prodding and I can def see how it would come off in the pocket.

I do the pre-melt to spead it out evenly. I have been trying some of your tips and I think the splattering is a bit less now. I have been able to clean it up faster with a qtip moistened with iso.

Welp I just caught up here and am a little bummed I missed that batch of blemished units reading all the new positive reports... Although I'm not too sad I get to save the money for now haha but will definitely keep more of an eye on this thread again :D
