Thanks; I could have sworn I’d read it could go over level 4, and apparently it was on the dotleaf site’s main product page: “The dotLeaf can heat up to 245ºc with boost, so you won’t be restricted to how hot you want your herb.”

Actually, I’ve had some of the ‘fiddling’ and ‘charring’ issues too.

This is what support had to say about the overheating:

“Typically this over temperature may occur due to poor connectivity with the heating chamber and i may be able to send you a replacement component to resolve your issue.”

You may want to get in touch with them if you think your device is working suboptimally.

Hey there! Was wondering if anyone could share any experience with the vapor quality of the dotleaf compared to the mighty? I have several vapes but none are conduction so interested in buying a dotleaf from their site.

Correct. You do not need to hold the button down more than 1-2 seconds to effectuate the next boost level (15F increments).

I was under a different impression based on the instruction manual for the DotLeaf. I could very well be wrong as the verbiage could be construed either way. Here is what the manual says though...

"During the session, press and hold the fire button for a 15*C boost to your set temperature."

When I actually do that, it vibrates indicating the boost, however if I let it go, the vapor diminishes again while I draw, indicating that the boost was only active while the button was held. Like I said, I could be wrong, but from my own experience, the button has to remain being held down to accomplish a temp boost. I would love to hear from anyone else as well to see their findings, as the verbiage can be taken either way.

If you have one, and can do some testing, I would love to see someone else's DL on boost. Mine is one of the early release models since I got it back in October, so maybe it's different?

This was my impression as well, although I'm hoping I'm wrong because it's rather annoying to constantly be pressing the button as my preferred temp (native or with glass ) is 4+Boost. I have also noticed an increase and decrease in vapor when the button is engaged vs disengaged. I'm emailing support rn with some questions, I'll make sure to include this one.

Maybe you’re right. Let’s check the heat indicator (how many quarters of circle are lit) after using the boost both with and without holding down the power button after the boost haptic vibration..???

Thanks for the suggestions and reassurances to go straight to Temp 4. It's not bad even with the short mouthpiece, but is an absolute animal through any glass (even jhook). Massive tasty clouds, no toastiness. I thought it hit like a bus before but this is a whole other thing.

DESCE bags came today, and they are the perfect size for the dotleaf. Snug but not too snug, and just long enough. Really pocketable and feels protective.

Is the device smelly after use? I know it’s subjective and seems like a silly question, but my Pax3 absolutely stinks after use and it makes me paranoid in public.

Alternatively, is the included case smell-proof/air-tight?
Not to me. I haven't had a pax but I remember my old alfa reeked while in use and after, and it was also conduction. I guess with the oven buried in the device, it mitigates smell. Maybe it cools the oven faster.

I am following this with interest and can see my self buying a v2 for water.
Love my DotAios, I use 3fVape and FastTech for accessories.
Thanks for the link! Another place to tempt me with accessories.

Just got the dotleaf in and it is very pocketable. Here's a size comparison with the also very thin FW7.

I'll go into more details later on it, but i took it through water a few times, and it can really milk a piece quickly similar to a TM or GH. I found it a little too irritating to my throat without proper cooling with the stock drip tip. I much preferred using the 14mm wpa natively than the thin sipper. Can't wait to dive in further.

Edit: Found a method that works better for me after thinking about the vapes i mentioned earlier. I just decided to run it at heat level 3 and just take bigger short rips. This actually was easier on my lungs and throat than the sipping inhale. This was still with the 14mm. I'm new to the whole drip tip possibilities so i am excited to see how this can be upgraded.

Is anyone familiar with the plastic material inside the oven? I’m not talking about the ultem, what I mean is they sorta greyish plastic at the top of the oven, you can even see some in the bottom through the ultem. Is it just delrin? And is that safe?

edit: also my mind is really starting to change on this thing, this whole chamber connectivity issue is a big big problem, I have completely wasted too many bowls at this point because this thing enters into never ending heat up mode. And this is after me carefully placing the chamber in exactly as I have the past week. If I can’t resolve this myself or with dotLeaf’s help I’m getting rid of this thing ASAP.

edit 2: so I tried my other chamber which as of yet has remained unused, because I thought maybe it’s my cracked bottom and sides which might be the issue on the other chamber. Anyways, I load that sucker up, set to temp 3.... and instantly cracks the chamber and roasts the herb to nothing in less than 30 seconds.

yup. Some big problems here.

Does it seem to be a problem inside the ovens, or with the spring contacts where they meet the oven contacts? If the former, is it an issue with the oring compressing too much, mixed with the cracked base, that takes it out of range?

Sucks that people are having issues, as it seems to be a good device otherwise. I knew I was getting a soft launch device and am happy with being on the ground floor. But I want everyone to be on the ground floor with me with working devices.

no idea where the issue is, oven is going into place just fine, no wear n tear on the oring, I double cleaned the contacts to make sure it wasn’t that, I’m not getting those blinking lights that indicate bad connection/no oven. It just heats up and doesn’t stop heating until I turn the device off manually.

Almost sounds like an issue with the internals in the device not recognizing when the oven gets to temp, so it keeps heating up until there is a failure. I could be wrong since I don't work with electronics, but its the only thing I can think of. I have had several people reach out to me asking what's going on. All I can say is to reach out and try to get things replaced...be it the oven or the device itself. They have great customer service, and all this feedback they are getting will be indicative of an ongoing issue that they will need to take care of...and they will. They have a great reputation in the ecig industry, so they will iron things out. I'm sorry everyone is having this issue. I had it too, but it seems to have resolved itself at least for me.

Things to try:

If the device continues to malfunction and combust bowls, first things first, remove the battery and wait 10-20 seconds before putting it back in.

Drop entire oven, except maybe the lid, in ISO and give it a good 10-15 minute soak. Then rinse off with hot water and let dry completely. (I have not heard of any official cleaning instructions from DotLeaf, but I have done this to mine, and everything seems to be fine.)

With the battery removed, depress the bottom tank contact on the vape repeatedly, and work it a bit so that it is not applying so much pressure to the tank. It could be that the spring is too stiff, causing a miss reading in temp when the plastic cracks, ultimately changing the resistance of the coil and affecting performance

With the tank removed, set the power level back to one, insert the tank giving it a fresh resistance reading, and try a warm up cycle.

If none of these things work, I would most definitely contact DotLeaf and request a replacement device sooner rather than later. I don't know what their replacement policy is, but I would assume/hope that they at least cover the performance of the device itself for at least the first year. I'm sorry so many people are having issues. I know we all bought into this not entirely knowing it was a soft launch, but lets try and help them, succeed rather than rip them a new one or give up on them entirely. This really is a great device with lots of potential. Let's do our part as responsible users, and help them identify the issue at hand so that they can take the steps needed to correct it.

My advice to those who haven't purchased one yet but wants to...
It might be worth holding off until known issues are resolved, unless you want to be part of the solution.

Have a great morning everyone!

Hey guys,
ordered a unit a few days ago and explicitly asked for the latest version with revised parts of gaskets and tank. I was reassured on IG that I would receive the newest version. Just unpacked it today after receiving and was a bit irritated that mine has the small stubby mouthpiece. Recent versions have a bit taller one. And, indeed, I got #007x...one of the first units ever made. The oring beneath the tank looks terrible. I contacted them right away via IG and hope to hear back soon.
My unit was shipped from France and I bought directly from them to be sure, I‘d get the latest iteration with updated parts. FWIW our pal @Unklmark68 was so kind to let me know his # - he only ordered few days ago. It’s in the 1xxx range.
But what is much worse is hearing about all kinds of oven issues... Defective chambers and even smoke on setting one.

For everyone on the fence, I can only recommend to be patient and wait how things pan out.
If you’re ordering from the EU, you won’t receive the latest updated version.

Sad to report this for now as it looks like a promising little contender. Will wait for their answer (I contacted them before via email and never got a reply, hopefully this time) and keep you guys posted!

Mine came today, some quick impressions. Just used it after a brief t break, so apologies for any incoherence in the my musings.

First of all, damn this is a nice feeling lil machine. Super solid vibes. Also just had a brief round messing with the temps between 1-3 with the two different mouth piece from the images, both super nice (the pipe thing sounds like a bloody dog whistle though). Flavour is also super nice, good cloud production despite material I had ground a few weeks ago. Fiendishly potent. Definitely a bit harsher on higher temps even with the mouthpieces, and definitely a lil handwarmer. Both not unpleasant though, feels true convection. Slight clicking noise on the warm-up on the step to 3, that may be the oven-cracking temp ha. So far so good though, survived the first round unscathed. Also the o-ring situation definitely gives it a slightly paranoid feel when putting the chamber in, but that may be just my anticipation of issues there. Not sure what version I got, I ordered through them, but it was shipped within Europe, so we'll find out... whitish gasket on the inside of the tank, is there any consensus on what version that is yet?

But generally yeah, it's cool. Totally not unhappy about my decision to go for it, I ordered before o-ring-gate but before cracking-oven-gate, so I anticipated some risk with early adoption, but went for the 10% discount. Also generally this thread reads like pretty good CS so far, so I feel reasonably relaxed about that. So far definitely gets my recommendation, it's a nifty device.

//edit

Just saw vapen00b say that European devices are earlier version, so that likely explains my oven o-ring trepidations ha. Just checked for the serial number, ##035x.

Got mine on Thursday and have only done a handful of bowls so far, all at temp 2. I did try the boost feature, but aside from that, it's only been on temp 2, since it hits hard enough for me at that temp. I do have a couple of very tiny, barely visible, hairline cracks in the Ultem at the base of the bowl. They seem to start at the thinnest, most transparent sections on the outer edge of both sides of the bottom. So far I haven't had any problems with runaway heating and combustion.

The ceramic part of the bowl is completely intact, no cracks so far that I can see. Has anyone had any cracking of the ceramic? I wasn't sure when reading about cracking whether everyone was referring to the outer plastic, or the inner ceramic...

I think if it's only the Ultem that is cracking it would be a fairly easy fix. All they would have to do is switch to PEEK and maybe raise the price a couple of dollars to offset the cost.
