Been eyeing up a V60 setup for some time and finally treated myself this week as a little pick-me-up retail therapy!

Picked up a size 1 Hario ceramic dripper, matching glass serving jug and a bunch of brown filter papers for the princely sum of ~£40 delivered!

It beats the plastic funnel and cloth bag I was using and ended up knocking over, and the coffee tha comes out of it is clear, super tasty, not bitter in the slightest. It is a bit of a faff - takes a few minutes of slowly pouring the water on the ground coffee, but it's worth it! I may even invest in one of the swan neck kettles at some point, it really is very nice to take a moment or two, the making becomes part of the enjoyment.

Overall - highly recommended if you appreciate the subtleties of flavour potential in coffee

You definitely need to get a gooseneck kettle. Essential tool for good pour overs. That plus the V60 and a burr grinder is all you need!

Edit: also get a good scale if you don’t have one already.

Oh thanks, yeah I think you are right I have read loads of people saying the same - one day for sure

The kettle I have is actually pretty good in this regard, I did consider it, but until I start getting work/paid again it seemed a step to far for a little indulgent treat purchase.

Oh and I already have a good burr grinder, from many moons ago - awesome thing - La Pavoni!

question for the aeropress users, do you guys add a little hot water at the end? I feel like I get a very small cup of coffee. Am I doing it wrong lol

My coffee cup is huge. I press my Aeropress, and add water to almost full. I think it is somewhat like an 'Americano', an espresso drink which is a shot (or 2) of espresso, and boiling water to fill.

So over the last few years I have switched from being a tea only drinker, to a coffee and tea fan.

my palate isn't defined as it is towards the special herb lol, but I do enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

now I had a 30 dollar Black and decker 12 cup maker and to be honest it doesn't really make good coffee. a couple reasons. I am the only one in my house who drinks coffee, so I only make 4-6 cups in a go. it's never hot enough, and it just doesn't really taste all that great. so then my gf bought a tassimo, and it makes much better coffee. but still it's a little weak, while it is warmer...

so then on reddit the other day I was reading about great life changing devices that cost less than 100 bucks.

a french press was brought up. and yes I thought to myself a good idea. my sister who is a coffee nerd swears by it when she is home visiting my folks... they have a fancy machine at home i think...

so anyways I will get to the point of this thread. (start reading here if you are thinking tldr)

so to the french press posting a lot of replies came to say, FP is good but Aeropress is better.

so I looked into this more... it's a little 4 shot piston coffee maker!

you make your strong coffee and then do 1 of 2 things.

1. you filter your 2 oz coffee and then top up if you want a more normal drink.

or

2. you just fill it up to the 4 shot level (i have taken to liking this so far... but i've only had it a day.)

this thing is pretty kickass! I get coffee shop quality coffee in my own house for 35 bucks!

i don't profit from telling you guys this, just wanted to share! it seems worth it to me!

For the longest time, I was very picky about how I brewed my coffee. In 2009 I was working in Calgary, and they had a Keurig system, and there seemed to be a near unlimited choice of pods. Light, dark, flavoured; there must have been two dozen choices. The oil company treated its works right. There were fridges full of soda pop, fridges of juices, water, they had everything.

It is actually a good strategy. Fewer people went out for coffee. Many of us IT folk, drink coffee all day. We often also drink, Coke, Sprite and Mountain Dew; it's a caffeine lifestyle.

I still drink coffee today, but I now drink more tea than coffee.

Just finished a bag of that a few weeks ago...excellent!

Love their coffee and usually gravitate to their "Kick Ass" selection. Sometimes I blend a few different ones together.

Just below you in WA state...Americans enjoy this brand, also.

It’s not as fancy as some of the setups here, but it gets the trick done for me! When I had a drip pot I made about 1 cup of coffee a week and bought the rest; since getting my AeroPress a year ago I haven’t had more than a handful of cups not from my press.
