It takes people lots of time to get used to it for their own needs. It's not rocket science though don't worry

For my friends that have no experience vaping, I put the whip right up to a bong, fire my DBV up all the way, and just take monster rips! No technique and everyone gets blasted.

Forgive me brothers for I have combusted.

It all went well until I tried to push it at the end, lifting the temp to try and get 'value for money'. Being my first go on a vape I didn't even realise at the time, it was only afterwards emptying the wand when I saw it all blackened. Perhaps I'd have choked a little more were it not for the attached bubbler.

I managed a few clouds beforehand and was trying to get the last out of it, altering draw speed and slowly trying to push the temp higher until I got another cloud. I got a big one, and did some coughing and thought how amazingly similar it was to how I remembered smoking, both in taste and tickle, and of course the high pitched cough.

Overall pretty happy with the experience and looking forward to spending some time working it all out when I'm not so rushed.

no forgiveness needed. we have all combusted in dabuddha (i know i have) when we are young with our new teacher. i actually encourage young learners to combust at least once so they know where the outer limit is and not to reach it again. your new teacher will show you his ways and when you have learned, then the student becomes the master

Can anyone tell me if the element should be glowing red when it's just past the click where it turns on?

I'm not too sure what I'm doing but I seem to be combusting even with the unit turned down as low as it can go. When it's at its lowest setting the element glows fairly brightly and I'm wondering if perhaps my dimmer has malfunctioned.

Is it worth plugging in a power meter to check or measure power consumption at various settings?

You might have a problem. The rod shouldnt glow until its around halfway

I'm using a 220V unit. Lowest power draw is 22-23 W and the max is around 32W so it's not just off/on the heating is variable. Element glows at both min and max setting. I took some photos to show glow but haven't worked out how to post them.

Yeah, as @hoptimum said, that is definitely running too hot!
I'd contact 7th Floor like he said and see what they say.

Sorry for your troubles, bro. It worked perfectly the day before I listed it.
I used it all day at 12pm-1pm to make sure all was well and as a 'see ya later to the buddha' session.

Was it that hot during your initial session?

Hopefully 7th floor says it's something easily fixable.


edit: just dug up in my email that I bought this unit on Jan 24th, 2013 from theothersidevapes.com. They list the DBV as having a 3yr warranty. If you need me to send
you the email invoices as proof of date of purchase for 7th floor, let me know.

Ah OK. I've never seen one before so wasn't too sure if that was correct or not. And yep, this is how it looked the first time I turned it on. No worries canj00digit - these things happen, not your fault.

I'll send them off an email and go from there - hopefully they can just send me the parts.

Hey guys, new to vaping. I ordered a new dbv discounted as it was only the unit by itself. I have bought the wand , tubing, heating cover. Only thing is I think I'm missing the shims.

I have included a pic to check. I haven't recieved the unit yet as it's still in post. Anyone ever made some shims for it or know where to get some replacment ones?

That unit does not need shims. It is a new version that has a tight retention clip.
If you still want a set of shims, send me a private message, and I will get them to you.

Ah cheers for that, it finally arrived yesterday and as you say had the retention clip. Although I had trouble getting the heater cover over it, felt like I was going to break it.

So I removed it and used a few spare screens as spacers.

First impressions are fairly good, have had a couple of good sessions. Seems like a different high than smoking bongs
