Hi, I'm new to this forum. Recently my Crafty battery has died on me. I'm not sure how many hours it had since I really don't use the app that much. I know my Crafty has been my main vape as I used it at least once a day for 3 years as I had it since October 2015.
I would like to thank all of your for your help and technical posts, videos, specially JCat with his tutorial of how to replace a Crafty's battery. Very helpful indeed and I wouldn't be able to do it without such help.
I've bought online a Panasonic/Sanyo NCR18650GA 3350mAh 10A with tabs attached to replace my Crafty old battery. I followed all the instructions provided in JCat tutorial, did all the wires soldering and then I reassembled my Crafty and fully charge it.
During the 1st session it worked just fine for like 10-15 minutes and the heating up time was also much faster than when I was using the older battery and I was all happy thinking my Crafty was revitalised and that using a larger capacity battery would give me at least 15-20% extra battery capacity.
But during my second session after 5-10 minutes using my Crafty it started shutting down all the time after it reached the precise temperature for vaping and I would have to let it cool down for some minutes in order to let me turn it on again, but then after one or 2 minutes it would shut down again. I know the Crafty and Mighty shuts down when It's too hot, but it wasn't like that, it would keep shutting down all the time after 10-15 seconds when it was hot, it would not wait the current time where it's expected to shut down by itself. It would not let me vape accordingly.
I then realised that I did not use a PVC Heat shrink wrap, as I thought my battery did come with some source of wrapping plastic material that resembles this PVC material, which I found out later that it was just an electric isolator, not thermal. The seller told me that.
The battery indicator was still showing a mid charge battery, since it would blink the blue led very slowly, so it did not seen as the battery was running out and I had only used it for like 20-25 minutes max.
I then ordered online some PVC heat shrink wrap for 18650 batteries which was quite cheap. After I got my mail with the PVC I once again opened up my Crafty in order to install it. I then used a hair blow dryer to make the PVC tightly attached to the battery with the wires and thermal sensor inside it. I'm not very skilled with this stuff as I never did such thing in my life, but it looked like I did it right. I will also post some pics that I took prior to closing my Crafty shell plastic parts.
I really thought my Crafty was shutting down all the time when it reached the desired temperature because the battery was overheating due to the lack of using a proper heat shrink wrap and the thermal sensor was doing that to prevent the battery from frying I guess.
The thing is after I've reassembled my Crafty and try to use it again I still had a mid battery charge like I've mentioned before, but after turning it on for only a minute it shut down once again and I got a fast blue blinking light showing me that the battery was completely drained. I found that quite strange since I had only used my Crafty for 25 minutes max after a full charge. Prior to using it agai the battery indicator was showing a slow blue blinking light which means I still had at least 20-30 minutes battery charge, so WTF?
This was yesterday when I finally installed the PVC heat shrink wrap that I had just received, but I haven't used it again since this weird issue with the battery discharging took place.
I then left my Crafty charging overnight and now has fully charged battery with the indicator showing a still bright blue light, no blinking.
I really thought that installing the PVC would solve the suddens shut downs my Crafty was experiencing, but after what happened yesterday it made me have second thoughts if something is wrong with the battery, the way I placed the wires (despite I followed JCat tutorial all the way through) or something else, or for some reason the battery is lasting only 20 minutes instead of an hour as I was expecting that as it's a larger capacity battery compared to the older original one that used to last 45 minutes.
I still need to use it again (now that I have placed the PVC heat shrink wrap) to see if the new battery will die on me once again after one session and a half like it happened before having the thermal PVC attached to the battery.
I'll update my post once I tried it again and I really appreciate any help and thoughts. Sorry for my English as I'm from Brazil and for the huge text, but I really wanted to explain with details the issues I have experienced.
