I've kind of been having the same experience where the Crafty seems to be hoggier than most of my other units and I'm getting less good hits than I expected. Flavor is good but I'm getting the harshness also and have to cough.

Hi to everyone, i’m from Italy so sorry for my english.

I recently entered the world of vaporizers. After having tried it in Amsterdam, and after reading several forums and reviews of many vaporizers, about a month ago I bought a Volcano, and it was immediately love. It’s great! The taste, the flow, the consistence of the vapor, everything it’s amazing. Since then I stopped smoking almost immediately. I load it with a 0.1 and I can get about 4/5 balloons, starting at 193 ° C and getting up to about 210 ° with the last one.

Happy of this experience, I decided to buy a Crafty, which arrived two days ago. Unfortunately, the experience is strongly negative. With the same amount I use in the Volcano, in the Crafty after having made 3/4 shots of 5-7 seconds long with good taste, in the following I feel a toast and plastic taste, horrible, a crap, and vapor runs out soon, I do not think I get 10 shots. Also, at the same temperature as the Volcano, the steam makes me cough a lot, I have to stay under 185 ° C for not coughing.

I've read in the forums that someone else complains about the flavor, but they are isolated cases. Most are excited, I also read of someone who says that crafty has a better taste of the Volcano. Instead, Crafty remember me the Pax2 that I had tried, with the same horrible toasted and plasticous taste. I would like to understand:

- why am I doing the same with the Volcano 5 or 6 sessions by at least 10 shoots, while with the Crafty I do a single session of up to 10 shoots?

- Why, after the first 3 or 4 shoots, does the flavor become horrible?

Am I wrong? Is it because it's new? Is faulty?

Expect anxious for your answer

Thank you

I have a Crafty since December 2014 and this means the original and three replacements. I never had the flavour of popcorn or burnt plastic! All together over 1000 hours of use! And when I fill a capsule with good herbs I can draw 5 good ones on 180 with real good flavour then I boost to 200 and the first 5 hits have really dense vapor and intense flavour. Then the density and flavour falls from draw to draw. Overall I get 15 to 20 draws from one full capsule with good herb!
I also use the volcano and this machine is efficient like no other electric or battery powered vaporizer I know. The only vape I know which is equally efficient like the Volcano is the one and only Vapman!

@Nicola the Crafty is not a portable Volcano unfortunately. The last hits have obviously less flavor. While Volcano mixes the vapor in the bag, giving a uniform flavor to it, with no bag and a vapor path of only a few centimeters you have to expect that. I'm far from judging my Crafty's vapor as crap or plastic-y. Are you sure you didn't get a Chinese clone trough Amazon? There's plenty of.
Another culprit for bad taste could be also poor quality weed. Starting at 193 with a Crafty and good resinous weed would make me cough too.
If you have a legit Crafty and not a clone, I advice you to start at 160, going up to 195 max and stop. Then you can revape the buds on your Volcano. Using the Crafty at max temp will hurt it and if you have a sensitive throat will hurt you too, as it seems.

How much weed you put in a full capsule? I use a 0,1 paked with liquid pad

Yeah, less flavour is ok, but orrible flavour not!

I have bought it from vapostore.com, where i bought the volcano, i think it's ok

The weed it's good and it's the same that i use in the volcano

thanks for the advise, i'll try, but my main problem it's about horrible taste

So my second crafty the one I got for 179$ from Storz and Bickel, after warranty ran out on the first has a problem. Before I used to charge it until the third bar came up and I knew it was enough for a bowl, now with the 20 percent battery performance increase if I charge it until the third bar starts blinking it shuts up mid bowl. Annoying.

Not everybody likes vapes, I used the crafty with friends, and they say joints make them higher. They are saying they get higher with a .2 in a joint then a vape, I disagree, I'm trying to use .13 in the dosing capsules now. .2 in a joint is like all paper, you get a longer session from the vape.

Given that some of the 'high' from combustion is due to oxygen deprivation, my preference would still be vaping, thanks. And i'm glad I don't smoke paper anymore!
Between the two methods, there's a qualitative difference in the experience of "being high"; I personally very much prefer the vape high, so Fuck Combustion.

I've been having a get reacquainted affair with my Crafty vaporizers lately. I was packing about .14 grams and having two sessions with one at base temp and second with boost temp. The flavor is so much better now that I'm packing .07 grams and using in one session with both base and boost temps. Base temp for my strain is set to 168c and boost to 185c. I use a concentrate pad on top the load as a spacer. It keeps the cooling unit much cleaner. I change out the pad (ISO bath and rinse) more often than I clean the CU.

I am very fond of my vaporizers, but monogamy is overrated IMHO.

I've completed my initial testing (I'm pretty high after a dozen sessions with the crafty since last night ... plus a couple with the hopper ...!).

I posted my results above for the Sony VTC6 which is by far the winner. This battery significantly outperforms the rest including the stock battery!

After testing the VTC6, I tested the LG HG2, which did quite well:
- 1st session: 1:22 heat-up, heat recovery and retention was good, maybe a little better than stock
- 2nd session: 1:32 heat-up, heat recovery and retention was good, but a long, powerful draw can drop the temperature by 10deg (similar to the stock 18650PF)
- 3rd session: 1:40 heat-up, heat recovery and retention pretty good, recovery a little slower
- 4th session: 1:50 heat-up, heat recovery and retention acceptable, recovery a little slow

After 4th session there were 2 bars left. Pretty sure it would handle another session or two, but I wouldn't go beyond 4 just like I never went beyond 4 with the stock battery because the retention/recovery becomes way too annoying. I actually find the magic # to be 2 or 3 sessions w/ the stock battery when it's good, and similarly I think 2 or 3 would be good w/ the LG.

I also tested 4 sessions w/ my homemade Panasonic NCR18650PF and found the performance and timing to be what one would expect, which is basically similar to the stock battery (not surprising since they are the same):
- 1st session: 1:30 heat-up
- 2nd session: 1:40 heat-up
- 3rd session: 1:50 heat-up
- 4th session: 1:55 heat-up

Battery quite low after 4 sessions ... don't think it would make it through a 5th.

So, in summary:

1. Sony US18650VTC6, 3120mAh, 30A max continuous: By far the leader. This battery had much better heat retention and recovery and heat-up times. It's performance across multiple sessions was notable. This battery does 3 sessions with no decrease in performance, and the 4th session performance is still as good as a 1st or 2nd from a brand new stock battery. One gets 3-4 sessions easily w/ no sacrifice. After 4 sessions battery still shows half (in the App).

2. LG INR18650-HG2, 3000mAh, 20A max continuous: Slightly better than stock, but only slightly

3. Panasonic NCR18650PF, 2900mAh, 10A max continuous: Stock battery. Homemade performs as would be expected.

hello a question on how to recharge the sony battery vtc6 :
the recharge installed in the crafty with the crafty transformer
or the recharge with a transformer for lithium batteries?

excuse the bad english

Either. I think if you pull a full battery out of the Crafty, and put in a dead one, it gets a little confused, so charging on an external charger prior to install is beneficial.

That being said, I'm pretty sure it's not necessary and just installing in the Crafty and charging will eventually correct itself (I think there is even a process from S&B to reset the battery meter ... this might just be me remembering something that doesn't exist though  ... wouldn't be the first time!)

¿then you recommend first charge the sony vtc6 battery with an external charger and then install it on the crafty?

¿later i can charge the sony battery vtc6 installed in the crafty with the crafty transformer or i have to take out the sony vtc6 battery and recharge it with the lithium battery charger?

sorry bad

I recommend charge it with external charger first, if you can, ultimately I doubt it will make a difference in the end. I only recommend this because the one time I installed an almost dead battery in a Crafty that did have a fully charged battery, it thought the almost dead battery was fully charged (I plugged it in to charge, it indicated it was fully charged, even though it wasn't). It's worth noting this only happened to me once and I thought it was very strange and it was when I was assembling/testing a bunch of different batteries/packs I had made. Putting in the external charger and charging it up the first time then resolved the issue and no more problems after that (or with any other packs I have ever tried)

After that, always charge just with built in charger. (You don't ever need to take it out again unless it is time to replace it after a year or few)

I have a crafty and I won't go back my friends.
The disposable crafty capsules are amazing. Just pop one in and throw it out on the go, pop in the next.
the capsule holder is great. I have 4 of these babies loaded each month and i don't vape any other way. Keeps the oven clean.

Do you guys know of a case i can put my crafty and 4 caddies inside ? Slim, smell proof, resistant.

best

Lots of folks use the capsules over and over again. They become easier to open/close with use and clean up very easily in an alcohol bath.

i found a case in a local camera store - Vanguard Dakar 6A - and it fits perfectly , it´s a bit padded so the crafty has a safe home. The price is around 8 euro.

Thank you for this suggestion. I am looking for a slim, hard case, that fits the crafty and 4 caddies that hold the capsules. Do you think this one will do ?

The hole point of it all is easy dispose easy change when you are on the go. They are hot when you are done and putting them back in your pocket is messy. Just toss them out, that's what they are made for.

They also cool off super quick though ... if you go through 8-16 capsules a day, that isn't very economical

I dump them either onto concrete or something (side walk, whatever, then pick up after I've put the crafty back in the case, it's cool by then). Alternately, I dump into the bag I have that I carry the crafty in, then blow on it a few times to cool, and within 10 seconds or less it's cool enough to handle (open, blow out, place back in caddy with lid on bottom as opposed to top so it doesn't seal the capsule)
