How do you fit .30 in the capsule, I had a hard time with .20.
I’m using the NewVape fine grinder with a few rotations but the weight would vary depending on moisture content & curing I think.
With what I’m using at the moment .25 seems perfect.
.30 gives some unwanted draw restriction but if I use anymore than that it just feels blocked.
Looks like I can fit up to .33 in one & still get the lid on but can get pretty close to .25 by eye so i won’t need to weigh them.

I guess it might be a bit early, but - has anyone put enough hours on the new version with the updated battery to get a sense for any potential reliability improvements?

My sense is that the bulk of warranty replacements stem from battery issues. Is that correct?

New to Vaping and having some problems with the Crafty that I just bought. I find that the first 2/3 draws are great - good flavor and vapor. However, after this, the taste turns burnt/popcorn like and nothing like weed at all. So I'm only getting 2/3 enjoyable draws a session, but i've read that people are getting something like 15-20 good draws until they start getting burnt flavor and not good vapor. Any help appreciated.

@Arog95 four questions for you.
1. What temperature are you using for your draws?
2. How many milligrams of weed per load?
3. Are you using caps or a concentrate pad?
4. Are you familiar with the strain you have?

Using the default temp. I'm filling the chamber (not sure how to work out how many milligrams). I'm using the caps, and I'm very familiar with the strain. I've also tried about 4 different strains in there and get pretty much the same result from all.

If you are using the caps then you are filling the cap and not the chamber. Caps hold about 250 milligrams unless you really pack it tight. When you fill the cap don't pack it tight.

The people who rave about the Crafty flavor are often low temp users. I start at 168c instead of the default 180c. I boost at 185c instead of the default 195c. I also use a concentrate pad to cover my load instead of using a cap and that might change the optimum temp for vapor so YMMV. The concentrate pad allows me to use a very small amount and still get good conduction.

I suggest you try starting at lower temp maybe even 160c and raise the temp in small steps until you get some vapor and flavor. Also the Crafty has a very open draw and you can really get most of the goodies with a few powerful draws. Ease up a bit on your draw and focus on the flavor more than the vapor.

With 70 milligrams I get 4-5 flavorful draws with some vapor at 168c. I boost to 185c and get another 4-5 draws with good vapor and some flavor. I do not draw as hard as I can because I have found that to be less satisfying for me.

You will find over time that periodic cleaning will keep the flavor from falling off too. I replace and clean the concentrate pad more often than I need to clean the cooling unit. YMMV. :)

It was the same for me. I'm also new to vape, only two months. I bought a Volcano, feeling very good. Then I've bought a crafty to vape outside and write here for the same problems. I also tried a pax 2 and a da vinci iq. Now i can say that the crafty will be not ever like a Volcano, but is good. My council is to use small amount like 0.1 with the liquid pad on top and use temperature like 180 or less, and go to high temperature only when there is no more vapor, for the last 2/3 hints. In my opinion da vinci iq has better and longer flavour, but also very minor vapor, no satisfaction.

Shameless cross post from the Vape Temp Charts thread.

Here is a temp chart of the Crafty that I just ran at 185°C.

I think Storz & Bickel did a pretty nice job with their design of the Crafty/Mighty by minimizing the heat in the chamber before/between draws.

Bonus boring video of the test:

I thought that I was in frame of the IR camera during the draws, but sadly it was angled to the right too much to catch the Crafty in action (which was my plan).

I'm curious to see what it'll read. The MV1 I was getting an exterior temp of 102f on the outside when I was blasting it a little. Warm but not bad. The IQ was at 107f. I never tried doing this with the crafty or mighty but I can't really see the outside of those getting up to temperatures like that. Maybe the cooling unit.. actually for sure the cooling unit. Yo, if your going to do that, angle it towards that cooling unit or at least get a read off that as well as the lower portion. The cooling unit I think is what gets the crazy heat build up. I'm curious to know what that gets up to. Shoot, I think I might check that tonight for the hell of it. I got one of them too but it doesn't give a visual like that predator type stuff man. That shit is cool. FLIR makes that stuff. That shit has been always outside of my price range man

I'm on my 4th Crafty since May, 2015. I just opened #4. #3 lasted about 10 months, around 120 hours. Sticker on the new box says 20% MORE BATTERY POWER! We shall see. Firmware V02.53.
It died after 54 hours, around 3 months old. I've sent it back and am waiting to see if they send me yet another one. (in the meantime I've bought a Solo 2 and it's awesome)

Glorious bro! Awesome! Yoooo Happy New Years peoples!

The top of that thing is actually pretty hot then. No wonder it burns the hell outta me sometimes. That's like a temp range of 84f-138f on the exterior.

Yooo, imma temp check that glass spacer for the IQ after a session when I get home later tonight. Thaaaatt thing gets wicked crazy stupid hot man. F'in practically bored a hole through my hand when I made the mistake of trying to remove it immediately after a session by flipping the device upside down and smacking it out into my hand. Theres like a momentary second before you realize it's burning the fuck outta you, then it's like owwww owwww owwww owwwww as your trying to bounce it hand to hand cause it's like a $10 piece of glass you don't wanna throw on the floor. Yooo, those dosing capsules same deal but the heat retention doesn't seem to last as long as them glass spacers man and I don't care if I dump a dosing capsule onto a floor, them' made of steel man. Iron man type shit, invincible. Yo, so check it:

"There is clear evidence that the perception of pain in adult human skin occurs just above 43°C. When the basal layer of the epidermis reaches 44°C, burn injury occurs. For superficial dermal burns, the rate of tissue damage increases logarithmically with a linear increase in temperature."

They're sending me another one, it will be here Tuesday. We'll see how long this one lasts, but honestly I'm not hopeful. I'll probably use the Solo 2 as my daily driver, and use the Crafty when I go out. That way it won't get heavily used and will hopefully last a while. We shall see!

The Crafty was the best portable dry herb vape but made useless by the terrible battery. I sold mine when I switched to concentrates only. Kept it nice and like new in the box, bid up just over $200. Brand new with a warranty isn't that much more. People really love these things and will do a lot to save a buck on them

The battery issue is not that bad unless you are traveling even then usb charger. So it could be worse.

I just received mine in the mail on Tuesday. After a few days with it, what took me so long!!?? The battery isn’t the greatest but IMO it does its job more efficiently than my other Vapes. Only wish I would have purchased one sooner. :leaf:

A while back, in this thread, someone posted a source (in the US), for replacement screens and O rings. It was some kind of industrial supply company. The prices were much lower than the official replacements found in vape shops or from S&B.

Just wondering if anyone has ever found a similar supplier in Canada. I want to get some of the fine screens. Vape shops sell a Crafty/Mighty screen pack, but you only get 6 screens, and only two of those are the fine screens. These packs cost $6-$10CDN, plus shipping. Way too much!!!

Anyway, if anyone knows of a Canadian online vendor (or one that ships to Canada for a reasonable rate) for the fine screens, can you please let me know?

Thanks!

If you picked up a sheet of stainless fine mesh you could try cutting a near circle with scissors or you could look for some type of punch to cut them.

Also try an ebay search for 15mm stainless fine screen?

Or this is the same fine 6 pack under a different title in PlanetVape Canada, volcano/plenty reduced chamber uses them:
https://www.planetvape.ca/plenty-normal-screen-set-small.html

When you divide up two packs plus post, they're not that much each seeing as how you could make them last if cleaned properly.
But maybe someone from Canada has found a better price?
