Welcome youed, and congrats on your Crafty! I can't speak to the battery question. Since it's technically not replaceable, I don't mess with it. Regarding packing, I use a SC grinder and just tamp it down. I use a CVault and it works great. I've read that others prefer to let it dry out.

I recommend you read the reviews from Buzz Danklin and Vape Critic. They add some great info, have comparisons and cleaning tutorials. Enjoy!
Thank you! The reason I'm asking about the battery is because that seems to be the number one issue with this vape, otherwise it's insanely good! It's strange that there is only a 2700mAh battery when batteries of that size and voltage can be up to 7000mAh. Any electricians/engineers that know if a simple switch out would work? Or maybe storz and bickel will come out with a crafty 2 :brow:

Most people concerned with battery life seem to end up with the Mighty. I just recharge after a session. I prefer the Crafty's smaller profile. But that's just me...

I don't think so, unless my knowledge is way out of date :hmm: 3400 is the general highest for this size of cell, there is the NCR18650G which is 3600 but they are hard to find and expensive if you do.

There are lots of very cheap cells that claim silly figures, I have some that I took from a friend and gave him some real cells as he was going to use them in a mechanical mod (if he had used them he might not have all his fingers now or even worse), they claim 5000 but after testing they were under 1000.

It's not just the mAh that matters when selecting the right cell, there are a whole lot of other things to consider.

There are a couple members that have changed the cell themselves:bowdown:, not an easy thing to do without the right knowledge and skills.

IMO until battery tech moves forward what we get now is what we are stuck with, unless more cells are added (already has though it's called the mighty) or they bring out a crafty 2 with user changeable cells.

There are other vapes that will give more runtime but you won't get the same performance as with the crafty, as with most things in life it's all a compromise.

:2c: :peace:

Edit: most of the cell change talk was around here...

When you guys send back Crafty without the cooling unit for repair. Do you wrap it up with plastic or something to keep it from rattling inside the original box?

That makes a lot of sense. It explains the massive numbers on those batteries off amazon. Maybe I'll wait til the warranty is up before I make any sort of modifications to my crafty.

I love the portability but the battery is a real downer, especially when using it in a group. Everyone always wants to use my crafty and I only just got it! They say it's the greatest way they've ever "smoked" before.

I'm in love with my crafty and my friend just bought one off massdrop for 260, lucky bastard. So glad I don't combust anymore.

Afternoon all,

Just got my crafty, charged it, did a 10 min burnoff at 410F (what a PITA with the shutoff timer!) and packed a tiny bowl covered by the pad.

Taste was almost phenomenal! It was almost because of a funny almost plasticky taste along with the herb. Is this normal?

I started reading this thread from the beginning the other day when I decided that this would probably be my next vape, so forgive me if this has been brought up a ridiculous number of times, I'm only around page 40......

Other than that, I'm really happy with it. Connected w/ BT just fine and I'm excited to play with the temps. Stayed cool enough to the touch even at 410F, at the 360F I tried it on, there was little outside heat. Hits were cool and tasty! I was pretty happy with the clouds, especially considering I had so little herb in the chamber and was only at 360F.

I look forward to playing with this thing tonight after dinner and catching up on this thread.

Healthy green all,

MT

Next time you do a burn off with a new vape add some abv! That should decrease if not completely eliminate the the new vape smell/taste. @SneakyPeteVaporizers has a vid about it on youtube. I too experienced that with my crafty and its normal but goes away fairly quickly.

Someone on Reddit stated that units with serial #23xxx come with a new reinforced casing as well as charger. Is this true?

Green goes to brown, n that's what I stand for.
Guys, I've used the Mighty plenty ;) of times now since my buddy has it, and I LOVE IT!!! BUT, the Crafty is cheaper, and its on Massdrop right now for $259, a good $80 off of the S & B website. Questions is do you guys have to fiddle with the app that much, making it awkward to use in public, or is the default temp just fine? Also for those of you who have both, which do you end up using most of the time?

Once you change the temps on the app they stay that way so you don't need to use it a lot. I use Mighty a lot more but everyones needs are gong to be different.

I'm just feeling the pressure since there's 4 hours left on the Massdrop deal. Should I get it, guys? xD

I was concerned about the app, too, but have actually found it to be one of my favorite features of the Crafty. I love how it provides information about the firmware and how many hours the unit has been used. I also dig how I can tweak various settings like the intensity of the LED lights and whether it vibrates.

I actually kinda wish the Mighty had this feature, too, truth be told. But then I'm not someone who varies the temperature much. If you're that sort, the Mighty's easily accessible temp control is probably a better fit.

There's 4 hours left on the deal and 49 people have purchased it. I WILL BE #50 xD. thanks @bigmouth for pushing me over the edge, also I could see the temp LCD making me OCD so for the sake of simplicity, Crafty it is! Night folks!
I don't think you'll be disappointed... provided battery life isn't a consideration like @WakeAndVape said. That more than the app should be the deciding factor.

The magic eraser suggestion was great! Cut a small block of the magic eraser and dipped in a bit of ISO, swirled the hell out of the rim upside down and its shiny as all hell now!

Tried to clean the gunk out from between the bowl wall and the plastic cone ring, got some out, then tried to use a safety clip and accidentally scratched a bit of it. Whoops! But all in all seems like a decent success. Still some gunk in that gap I think, but not too bad.

Just need to figure out now why the green light periodically dims slightly. Anyone experienced that? Could it be a sign of a faulty unit? I cant really complain of any other issues. SN 0123xx, FW 2.05, 2m15s warmup from cold, <will insert total battery time here when tested, [so far 100%-75% in 9mins]> and only had it overheat a handful of times. Otherwise doing well.

My Unit is from last year, serial around 2000. I remarked the periodic dimming also while observating the lights and hadn't any problems so far.

I guess it's the heater maintaining temps. This pulls enough energy to affect the brightness of the LED. It happens only when the green LED is on and not when the red one is shining and the crafty is obviously heating. Never tried it but you could verify this through the app if the bouncing around the preset temp matches the brightness of the green light.

The gunk in the rim between the plastic and the metal ring isn't worth cleaning imo, unless for traveling.
It's possible to ISO-Soak the bowl for a complete clean but that's on your own risk. I did this anyway with quite good results...

does the app provide you with an error message while overheating? if yes, what is the exact text you get from the app? or does the overheating only takes place when you charge and use your crafty simultaneously?

Good man. Glad you made the purchase. I'm waiting for another deal so I can order a Crafty. I missed that deal. Would have been nice to get on it. Haha. Maybe in a few months price will decrease or there will be a sale. If not, I better start saving.
