Hey doc, I had some brand new extreme q baskets and after I saw what u did I tried em, unfortunately it interferes a little with closing the unit, does yours close totally unhindered?

@adam_baumm The minivap baskets fit nice with no interference. The EVO ELBs have a thicker ring around the top and the cooling chamber is a tight fit. I flattened the ELB rim as much as I could with pliers, but the minivap small basket fits like it was made for the crafty.

5) I only use 2 temps mostly, 375*F and 410*F (in vitro) but Mighty is more suited for changing temps. I wish it had the "double button press" preset like Crafty does though.

6) The auto-shutoff has been perfect for me but it depends on your draw/lung power. Through my testing it appears that you must drop the temp by over 4*F to avoid the auto shutoff. How you do this in your allotted time is up to you but this thing is made to rip.

7) Don't worry, be happy :) Yes, 2 years.

8) Mighty all the way . . . The extra power and more robust case are 2 good reasons also the larger cooling unit gives a slightly better hit imho. The 12 volt is actually nice, I am embracing a plethora of portable power solutions. With 2 batteries Mighty has a larger performance "window" than Crafty. Mighty is great for travel as well. Extended family or hotels it's peffect.

Great info, thank you!

/columbo One more thing...

9) plasticky taste? I've come to vaping from 20 years of puffing uk style with tobacco so this is all a breath of fresh air ;) But my wife is american and is used to puffing just the goods, and is concerned about a plasticky taste as we use the pinnacle pro with the new glass insert, and often with the water tube. Again, worth worrying about, on her part?

If the taste refuses to go away yeah. Basically all electronics have the electronics smell, most likely from packaging materials but the only difference is 99% of the electronics I've bought I haven't inhaled through. Should let wifey hit the Crafty instead of the PP ;)

Thanks t-dub :)

Thanks for clarifying!

I guess my only questions are about the difference over the Mighty then, because one of them is getting bought! ;)

5) how much of a limitation do you find only having two temp settings without gaffing with an app? On the Pinnacle Pro we only use two settings anyway, at least on the Crafty I could set what they are precisely.
6) how annoying/not-annoying is the one-minute shut off really, and as a bonus question for an extra 5 points, how effective is the draw-detection at stopping the auto-shut off?
7) I've read back about 10-15 pages and seen talk of an error that starts happening; people are quoting their runtime to see who can last longest. That worth worrying about? How long do they support their battery for, is it the same two years?
8) considering we don't actually ever take our pinnacle pro out the house, but do like its portability, in our shoes would you go for the one with the buttons and the double batteries, or the smaller, lighter one with the handier USB charger?

I own the Crafty and had a hard time deciding on it or the Mighty. You definitely want to make sure you have a device that will connect to it. I bought a cheap ASUS android tablet, I have year old android smartphone but it doesn't run a new enough android version. I find two temperatures are enough most of the time but I also like to change the temperature for different strains. I love the size of the Crafty but there are times I wish I had the two batteries in the Mighty. Coming from the PnP you have the ability to run the vaporizer on AC even with a dead battery, you can't do that with the Crafty. You can plug it has to have at least about 20% charge and it will die even when plugged in since the charger only supplies about 30% of the power needed to run the heater. They Mighty charger has enough output to run the heater without extra help from the batteries. I may end up buying a Mighty eventually to complement the Crafty. For home use only I would lean towards the Mighty.

If you take strong hits over 4 or 5 seconds the auto shutoff will reset. I find that depending on the session I may have it turn off on me but it comes back to temperature quickly once you turn it back on.

On the battery warranty issue, Storz and Bickel specifically list the battery as a consumable in the manual and don't specify any actual warranty period on it. The unit itself is warrantied for two years and I'm pretty sure that they would replace a battery that went bad in a short period of time but if you read the manuals on both units (something I did before buying) it clearly lists the batteries as consumables and they even list the price for replacing the batteries when they wear out. The Crafty is $50 to replace and the Mighty is $75. I assume that covers shipping back.

Ok guys, I think I got the EVO ELBs modified to work as well as the minivap small baskets.
First thing I noticed is the minivap basket has a smaller rim than the ELB.

I was however able to almost precisely mimic the minivap basket which is shorter and wider than the ELBs

Here is what I came up with.
Stock minivap small basket on left. Stock EVO ELB on right.

Stock minivap basket on left, modified ELB in middle, Stock ELB on right.

I simply used needle nose pliers to spread the ELB wider by slowly spreading the mesh around.

Then I used pliers to flatten the rim of the ELB as much as possible.

I just finished this and am testing now:
The ELB fits much easier when you flatten the ring.
The minivap basket works great stock.
The ELB basket has a finer mesh screen than the minivap basket.

The results should be fairly equal, the EVO ELBs may keep the chamber cleaner because of the finer mesh. I am going to test them both out and see which one works better and keeps the chamber the cleanest.

I like the look of the crafty . How many bowl do you generally get per bowl?the only big negative to me is bowl size. S&b is known for big bowl size aka plenty, volcano. If there was a way I could get like 5 good hits from .09-.08 I would get it

Typo but I think you knew what I meant. How many bowls do you typically get per full charge.

I actually thought you meant 'hits per bowl', so I'm glad I didn't make any assumptions! To answer your question without being a smartass (not always easy for me) I get about 4 bowls per charge, but this can vary quite a bit between users as things like temperature, hit size, session length etc. all play a major role in bowls per charge. :2c:

Hey all...l-o-n-g time lurker emerging from the shadows after reading this whole thread and gleaning a ton of information. Thanks for this thread and for all of the information picked up from many other threads. On to the Crafty...

Here's a very simple method for enjoying the pleasures of kief without having to combust, lay down leaf sandwiches, etc. I put the liquid pad down first, laid a layer of high-grade Island Sweet Skunk sift down on top of it and then put the extra fine screen on top of that. Kept the Crafty at the factory default and catapaulted to ecstasy. Brilliant hits - rich vapor and the pure taste of oil glands. Perfect!

Enjoy!

Hi,
Forum newb here but been following since October. Ive had my Crafty since end of November im upto 75hrs use and ive now started to get problems with temp overheat/cutout/blueflash. If i have a heavy session it overheats everytime now. I also cracked my plastic housing just like a previous poster, i dont know how it happened but its been like it since second week i owned it.

I love the unit, but i think they could have done a better job designing the housing.. i would also have made it so you could replace the battery its only a 18650 panasonic 2700mah ncr with a thermistor shrink wrapped within. I also feel the thermal safety threshold of the battery is overkill, these batteries can take some abuse.. just look at the PAX set-up..(uses a panasonic 2900ncr) i had 18months out of that vape used about 5 times a day, the battery still has a fairly decent internal resistance and still used in my ecig.
This is the first ever storz and bickel product ive owned and im happy with the clouds, taste, temp control and heating chamber, but the quality of the housing and design should really be better for the £230 it costs. Ive not dropped it yet, but im sure if i do onto a hard floor the housing will break, if it does at the top where the cooling unit connects then its game over.

Wow that seems low for a 399 vape. I know it's brother is supposed to be the more powerful one but dang.

I'm wondering what could be a better housing option ? Seems like I've seen multiple units breaking right where yours did. Could just that area be a better material? Do you think it was because of twisting the cooling chamber coupled with stickiness is the cause or twisting the filling chamber into the unit to firmly might also be the cause?

Have to agree on the quality of this vape. Mine is at 46 hours (2 months old) and nearly every session ends with a battery shutoff. Started probably around the 40 hour mark. I also find it performs horribly if the battery is below 60 or 50%. The temperature drops in a single pull are insane and the heater recovery is very slow. This is pretty annoying as you can easily get to 50% battery in 1.5 bowls. This also means I have to keep it charged at all times which is terrible for the lifespan of the battery.

I haven't broken the housing like many have but it creaks a bit when I twist the mouthpiece on. Over time this is surely to lead to something breaking.

It's a shame because on a full battery or when new out of the box this thing is really nice. Honestly not sure I would recommend it though given the seemingly high rate of overheating issues among people with 2 or 3 month old craftys. Will be interesting to see if this is a bad first batch or systematic problem over the coming months.

Needless to say I'm glad I kept my Solo. 2 years old but it may as well be brand new.

I'm no expert but i think it's off the mark for a portable. The key things required by this vape (apart from the vape quality its self) are lacking. For a portable we require something robust, something you can sling in your bag and not worry about, something reliable with decent batterylife. If its German engineering at its best, why the hell did they only include a 2700mah battery? this is the pack inside the crafty:
JWcgOvJ.jpg

even the pax i brought 2 years ago had 2900mah panasonic battery in. In a high drain device and willing to drop to 2700mah there are much better cells on the market tbh.
It could be the filling tool thats caused the fracture, but im not sure if it took a little knock when removing or putting it on.
I'm doubting ill get 1.5-2 years out of this vape.

That sucks man. I've been quite cautious with how tight i twist both the cooking unit and filling tool. It just seems too easy to crack the rim edges. :-(

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
So you folks who are having cracking issues around the cooling unit is S&B taking care of those as warranty issues and replacing your units?

Hi Very high
I should of checked this thread days ago as now I understand why I split my o-rings! I thought the o-ring seated in the little gaps were the crafty hologram piece sits! Woops it should be seated right at the bottom of the plastic post. Could this of been the reason why I was having resin leak up this area? Makes sense really. I have ordered a new set of o-rings but all the other o-rings are in 100% good order.

Cant remember who posted the tip previous but think it might of been @t-dub about dropping the entire cooling unit into iso for half and or so to loosen everything up before cleaning proper. Brilliant idea buddy thanks for sharing  saves me some battery life warming it up just for cleaning.

Now I'm thinking the same thing too because I was leaking bud all in the chamber as well and I also had the o ring in the slot as that's where it looked like it should go lol. Now let's see after a few days how much leaks in.

hi, I would like to know how S and B is dealing with these? "battery/charge" issues and the cracking of the docking area on your crafty. Has anyone contacted them?
