There some variation in the fit. Some fit really well:

Others are a little close:

The JoDa bowl is really great!
I still have to try the JoDa bowl!

Sorry if I led any astray, it was a happy accident while I was putting things away! Mine sits similar to your green colored one-

Hi everyone, I'm trying to learn more about the couchlog, and I have a question about the temperature controller for this device. Others have asked the question about whether another VVPS could be used, but I'm sort of confused by the responses.

Does anyone know if the normal adapter that is sold for logs like the HI or UD could be used? Also, I have a couple of these Micro Voltage Controllers that Alan sells on this page: https://www.toasty-top.com/other.html

They come either in a plastic box housing or on a tiny wood slab. Here's the description:

Micro Voltage Controller - $45
(bamboo and domestic wood). Exotic wood available for additional cost.
Plastic box version - $35
2” x 1.75” x 1.5” tall
Input - 5.5mm x 2.1mm socket, 5 to 30 volts DC (center positive)
Output - 5.5mm x 2.1mm jack, 1 to 30 volts DC (center positive)
25 watt capacity
Programmable start voltage
Digital voltage display
Short circuit protection
No slip feet
Micro knob adjustment

I was hoping to just use one of these.
I'm currently using the VVPS that I got with the my HI, with my couchlog. I think you'd be okay with the controller you've listed, but honestly wait for someone else to answer

Thanks, seems as though the other VVPS that Alan builds specifically for the HI should work too then, is that right? What is special about the temp controller that comes with the couchlog?

And I guess an important related question would be what voltage do you use on the VVPS that you use with your HI / UD, when you are using it with the Couchlog?

6V is the safe option. You can run it with 12V but be careful that you don't overheat the unit.

CL has 5,5x2,5 DC Socket. An adapter does the work if it doesn't fit.
Where would 6V translate to on the temp controller? I'm guessing the max, correct (seeing as the power supply itself has a 6V output)? Also, based on your comment would running it between 6v to ~11v generally not cause overheating?

For those with an REFC ATM converter (i.e. UCTRONICS Buck Converter), I had an additional (possibly dumb question): so if I wanted to run my Couchlog at the 6V mentioned here, would I just set the volts to 6.0, or do I need to worry about setting amps and/or watts too? Or do Amps and Watts automatically go off what voltage I choose (if I set by voltage)?

Just set it lower than 6V. The other values flow from there. My friend @4everpushingaboulder runs his CL at 4.5-5.1V on the ATM. I always use the puck because I like it.

What metal bowls are compatible with the XL's 18mm injector? I love the pure convection with the wooden bowl, but I want to do a nice heat soaked hybrid hit.

Not a lot of 18mm female metal bowls out there. Electropath looks too deep for use with Couchlog and you'd need to check the internal diameter. Or you could crank up temp to compensate distance from log to flower.

O'Connell is the only other metal bowl maker I know of. Stock Infinity Bowl would be too wide but I wonder if you could put a screen below the half-bowl adapter in the Glassfininty (which I think is deeper) or Infinity Bowls. And then the half bowl adapter might narrow the inner diameter of enough for it to work with 18mm male. But since not tapered, you won't get a lot of contact with that bowl. Or maybe a screen at the very bottom of the TKO Injector Adapter would let it work as a XL bowl definitely reach out to O'Connell to ask about this.

BTW, when giving this some thought I realized that for the normal CL the O'Connell SKO bowl should work well since it is 14mm. Again, I'd confirm with him tho.

Fellow Coughlog owners, have you had any issues with the weight of the CL breaking a rig, either natively on the joint or when using drop downs and cloud buddies etc ?

Personally I would not risk it, especially with cord attached. Or would only do it on my most stable or least expensive & replaceable glass.

I've used it this way ~90% of the time on various setups from small to large, cheap to not. It's lightweight.

This dropdown is rock-solid and drops close to the rig so there's little leverage on the joint:

I use mine on glass nearly every time I use it both with drop downs and without. I think the whole thing weighs less than a ball vape. Definitely weighs less than my Tinymight.

This looks great, I'm UK based so the import costs don't make sense for me to get this particular one, any recommends on a china glass ?

This is probably not as thick glass, but it looks like it should work:
Not sure why they list it upside-down, it'll work that way too but usually you'd turn it over and use it the other way with the CL in the female joint and the male in the pipe.

Yea, I saw that one, one of the reviews of it really put me off, perhaps I should reconsider though and reach out to vapefiend, they are a great bunch and solid company.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post, really appreciate it!

If the reviews put you off, Rick Bird Barry makes some great dropdowns.

I got a couchlog a few days ago, it’s good but I’m having some trouble with consistency. I saw some mentions of this earlier in the thread. Hoping somebody can help me to resolve this.

When I let it heat soak for a while at heater level 3 (that is the third tick right? it starts at 1?) it tends to scorch, but only on the initial hit. After it seems a bit too low of a temp. What gives?

Am I hitting it too long? I like to take prolonged (10 secs plus) hits. Am I supposed to hit it quickly and then stop? It is my first log vape but I have plenty of others.

Say for example when I’m using my herborizer, I put the heater around 5 3/4, it’ll give me dark abv but I can hit it as long as I want without any schorching if I don’t go too slow.

after the initial scorch I can turn the heater way up, it seems like it needs a few minutes to get back to temp. I’m hoping it is all user error. I’m using the metal bowl with the wooden stem attached in a bong or bubbler btw

Yeah. I had similar issues, though when I moved to bowls like the ones from VGOODIEZ or the JoDa ones I had fewer problems due to greater distance from heater to bowl.

I'd suggest playing around with heater temps, and your inhale style. A more gentle or relaxed inhale might help. Or maybe the length of your inhale is the issue and you should pull harder for shorter duration.

But that propensity to scorch on top to me is the main downside of the CL. Not a problem I've had with vapes like Herborizer or TKO. It can be done, but a bit finicky.

Yea, I've had the same experience. I'm getting best results with the Joda and Vgoodiez bowls, slow and extended draw.

I've come to appreciate slowing down when the CL is in rotation, I feel more connected with the process and it's been useful to keep the tolerance in check as well.

To prevent scorching I take a very slow and short hit at first, let's say it's the flavor hit. After that I can adjust my hit as I want. Heater Level is just a bit over 3 with the CL Stems and the Revolve Gen 2 with Camouflet tip and yes, the heater starts at 1.
Always leave a little space of at least 1mm between the herb and the edge of the bowl.

Thanks y’all! I’m gonna play around with my draw speed and the heater temp a bit. So the fast inhale may actually cause some scorching as well, hmmm.

I figured it was like a sticky brick, if it was a bit hot just hit it hard and the increased airflow will cool everything down a bit. @MrGreenspoon you have connected your revolve II? Any special tricks for that?

Strangely enough the very first bowl I did with the CL I had great results, dark abv without scorching but I didn’t really note my technique ugh

That was a suggestion from coolbreeze. Thank you @coolbreeze
The Camouflet tip fits perfectly like it was made for the CL.
I tried it with different stems and the Revolve Gen2 and the Simrell MVS are my favorites.
