Advanced warning:
I am about to be pedantic about model names/terminology - IMO there are enough issues with identifying glass designs that being mushy with set terminology is just going to confuse things...
The other pillar types that I have seen are the Mobius Matrix and the Sovereignty Peyote Pillar both much more expensive than Steven's pieces but also look pretty awesome.
Well "mobius matrix" doesn't describe any pillar piece I've ever seen...
"Mobius" refers to an American brand.
AFAIK, they have never produced any pillar items.
"Matrix" refers to a perc type - A "Birdcage", "Tyre" or whatever else it may also be referred to, it is essentially a form of gridded showerhead in function.
"Mobius Matrix" essentially just means any Mobius produced item that has a matrix perc
I have 2 Mobius Matrices (and used to own 2 others)
, but they don't really fit into this thread...
"Sovereignty Peyote Pillar" also Does not describe a Matrix Pillar
"Sovereignty" is the American Brand.
"Peyote" Refers to the initial Perc, which is also essentially a form of gridded showerhead, though fairly different in design.
"Pillar" then refers to the pillar section in the piece.
So "Sovereignty Peyote Pillar" refers to a pillar piece with a peyote perc...
Here are the only pillar pieces I know of on DHGate:
The Sovereignty Mini Pillar Knockoffby Steven (FC-711?).
It has a peyote-ish Showerhead Perc - No matrix = not a matrix pillar
The Vertigo Pillar-Cycler Knockoff by CCG
Showerhead Perc - No matrix = not a matrix pillar
FC-1000 (bubbler/side neck) & FC-707 (tube/top neck) By steven
Matrix Perc = Matrix Pillar
An unknown janky looking straight tube pillar with either a showerhead or matrix perc...
With the possible exception of that last one I listed, There are no other matrix pillars on dhgate to compare to in order to say that Stevens ones are good value.
You can certainly use the Pricing of similar US made items to gauge the relative value of the FC-707/1000, but that's different to another chinese matrix pillar...
I also just want to throw out there that the stereo matrix is not a pillar piece if that's what you meant when you said "Mobius Matrix"
Thanks for the feedback. It would be good to get a review of the FC707. My thought on the FC707 is that if splashback is a problem why not put a slitted dome in bottom of the neck of the mouthpiece? That would keep the vapour in while stopping any splashback. Maybe a suggestion for Steven to incorporate into the design? Putting a dome could also make the neck function as an ice bong adding further cooling.
That could definitely help, I'd guess it'll add another couple of $$$ to the price...
IMO the bubbler design is better for this piece anyway...
