Arizer Solo

thanks! but just to be clear, cause I'm kind of new to the terminology; UNground herbs=nugets? or just not fine grinded?

don't worry about it! i should have been more specific :) thanks for giving me first hand experience with both the solo and scs, i feel more comfortable buying from the domestic retailer now.

Unground = Nuget. I too usually use my solo with Nugs and no grinding !

Correct--I just pinch a piece off the nugg and insert it into the Solo. :)

Fine grind is probably more efficient in terms of extracting the maximum medicine from the plant, but I don't worry about that, since after vaping I grind up my ABV and use it in edibles. Nothing is wasted. Every time I eat an ABV brownie, I think, "back when I smoked, this is the stuff I would have thrown out as charred ash."

IMO the Solo is one of the best portables around. The price is hard to beat as well.

looking forward to experience this first hand

thanks! how much herb does one need to go through before being able to create a small batch of potent brownies?

I have tried both ground and nug and find it hard to feel any difference, so now i break up the nugs by hand and that seems to be a happy compromise. Also helps keeps stems much cleaner. Empty stems by blowing like a pea shooter = FUN.

Alright not to get off topic a few pages back some talk about simmering solo stem in milk would one heavily coated stem be enough for 1 or 2 cups of milk?

Probably. I think you're looking for something 1/30 to 1/20 of a gram. That is .033 to .05 grams? Some will be 'happy' on less, some might not notice it.

Two thoughts. First off, it's not the milk but the fat. Stay away from non and reduced fat milk. Old fashioned Homogenized or better. A dash of cream or half and half should be considered IMO, how often do you do this?

Secondly, you might try half first. Set the other half aside for an hour or so to see what happens? It's easy to reheat and enjoy later.......

Good luck, IMO worth the effort.

I had a quick question.....so if you pack your stem and take a few draws off it and decided to finish in a hour or two when you shut it off do you guys take the stem out for the time being or just leave it in?

Thanks

Both, I think. Personally, if it's a fresh load with nice flavor I pull the stem to try to preserve the taste. Otherwise letting it coast doesn't cost anything WRT getting full benefit from the goods. So I usually take a last hit or two as it cools and leave it in place.

Yer welcome. Thanks.

There is some really excellent advice on ABV recipes and doses here: http://fuckcombustion.com/forums/cooking-with-cannabis.10/

I used 10 grams of ABV in my most recent batch of chocolate chip cookies (using 1 box of cookie mix from the store, I'm not a from-scratch baker). They were magnificent. :)

Depends on the situation, if I'm at the desk using the water path I take the Solo off, otherwise I just take a few cooldown draws and leave the stem in.

I got a new straight stem again. Hopefully this one lasts longer! This is like my 4th stem I think  I'm comin' for ya, @ataxian!! This straight stem is pretty wiggly in my Solo even with the o-ring.

I forget who said it earlier in the thread, but I put a dome screen down the stem just up to where it expands to the bowl part. We'll see how much cleaner the reclaim ends up!

Also noticed that my SharpStone grinder's finish was coming off. I'd rather not risk vaporizing bits of that so I picked up a two-piece Santa Cruz Shredder. The slightly larger grooved part makes turning it easier, and it grinds uniformly. If you want big clouds fast you're better off with a fine grind, whole nugs to savor the taste. I can finish a stem much faster when it's ground up.

I just got my new Arizer Solo in the mail from Ebay...supposed to be brand new. I go to plug it in for the initial charge and it started at 5, after 15 min it is up to 7 and the green light is blinking....not really what i was expecting....I would like to get some suggestions as to what to do next....should i uplug it while blinking or just let it turn solid since it seems to me that the battery is already been charged.

Spoke with the Ebay seller and he said they don't even open the box from Arizer, so the battery comes 3/4 charged from them???

Lots of good info in this thread about initial and subsequent charges. Read back about 20 pages and you'll know as much as most veterans.

Gist of it is:
  • Charge fully and then at least four more hours, overnight is better.
  • For every charge after that, unplug when seventh light is solid but green charging light is still flashing

Welcome to the Solo family. You're going to love it.

thanks Simple Man. Light is still blinking....I'll wait for that to turn solid and give it at least 6 more hours. I guess I was just concerned that it started at 5 and got to 7 after about 15 min.

Actually 'mid range' is exactly what you want. For this class of batteries the makers recommend storage at about 70% of charge, higher actually leads to shorter service life strange as that seems.

The routine charge until the top light lights but the charge light is still flashing advice is intended to prolong it's life time. It should double it or more.

Remember to experiment around with technique, Solo is able to perform well at many levels. Some really like mild, flavorful hits at low steps, some crank it right up (and probably wish there was a step 8.....). I suggest step 3 or 4 to start with. The stem will be tight at first, give it some time. Don't forget to try tipping or the stem in the unit (some lift it a bit), it's a good way to control flow.

I bet this time next week you're becoming fast friends. Enjoy it.

Hey everyone just got my new solo, hits like a champ and im already in love, but can anyone tell me is it normal for the heat light to flash occasionally when its already heated up? thanks

Yep - After reaching the designated level and holding .... the heat light flashes to let you know when it had to kick in a little heat to maintain the level.

Using that logic, people who own a Cera Titanium, Cloud EVO, Herbalizer, Sublimator, VB2, etc... only use their vaporizer because it was expensive

Yea no thats no logic at all buddy, Im not saying its a good/bad vape but most people who would own it would be bias towards it, i would like to see some reviews from people who have borowed it to try out as your not gonna get the "yea man i payed $400 for this bad boy so its awesome" mindset.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the OP is saying that at all. Please reread what he said. TIA. I read it as 'if someone has paid $400 for a vape they are not as likely to abandon it (and throw it away) as a guy with $80 invested might'.

I see nothing at all to support the idea that the only reason for owning and using big bucks vapes is because they cost a lot. I think folks own and use the vapes they do because they thing they're good values to them. Purchase price no doubt plays heavily in most decisions to buy, but I really doubt many hold the view 'this must be a superior vape since it costs so much'.

That is, I agree with what I 'take' the OP to say, guys are less likely to pitch out a Cera than an Atmos.

Your so right OF, some people buy a name brand regardless and if its a dud after lashing out all that coin they are not gonna talk it down, well most people wont. I own some high end photography gear and i have a Canon 500D (cost abut $600) and a Canon 5Dmk3 (cost well over 4k), do i think my 5D is better than my 500D? yes due to its features but is it worth the extra 2k more than the canon 6D at around $2500? jurys out but im leaning towards no and unless you take your photography seriously or have money to burn i would not recommend such an expensive camera to someone, the 6D dose the dame job at 2k less and has a few features my 5D dosent. That said anyone who picks it up and uses it sees that this thing is built like a tank, takes amazing photos....unless your one of thoes..........Nikon people.....cold shiver runs down my spine anyways enough of my camera geekness
