Enjoying an evening Soloing with a little Seattle Diesel. I got it for free at a local dispensary for being a new customer. I looked it up on Leafly and I couldn't find any info on that strain. It's some potent medication.

A little cool, but a nice evening. The new bubbler is a perfect addition to the lineup.

My friend just used a PA for the first time with his 2013 Solo, and now his charger has stopped working. The light on the charger doesn't come on at all. Coincidence? Anyone else have this issue before?

Do you never miss the smoking high? I've not gone combustion free because whilst the solo high is perfect for daily usage nothing to me feels the same as a big ol bong rip if you want to get stoned!

To be honest, no I don't. More so, a 'trial' or two along the way were quite disappointing. Face it, some of the parts of smoke are truly nasty. You had to force them down at first, remember? "Have to get sick to get off"?

As I understand it, your brain links it all together to get you to crave the smoke for the THC. Once broken, that link gives you a chance to get the THC without the junk and you go back to dealing with the junk.

The same thing seems to happen with Blunts and other tobacco consumption.

Give it a try? Go a week or two. Long enough so your brain gets out of it and see? It's the very rare duck who still tokes up around here (I think I'll go duck to avoid the angry posts......)

Best wishes, and my hoonest advice. It really is a better way. And cheaper. And you get to live longer to enjoy it more. Good trade off, IMO

Is the charger really dead? How many lights does he get when he tries to run on battery power?

Otherwise I once again agree with the Q man......

Thanks for the prompt answer. Yes, I got that from before. It concerned me which is why I asked. If your solution is to just go back to blazing for a bit IMO that's a bad situation. Avoiding the byproducts of combustion is what we're about here you know. It takes most guys a week or two of no combustion at all to 'clean up' and get in the groove. Backsliding just resets that 'timer', and in the end can make the hill higher to climb.

Your call, of course, but if you're really resorting to a bowl from time to time I'd like to encourage you to try a modest WT instead? You get to save a pile of bucks on bud bills and we get to enjoy your company longer......

Regards,

OF

I always smoke with my Solo.. I'm a health nut plus it saves bud. Trust me I will not be going back to smoking bowls and bongs anytime soon.

Once in awhile I will smoke out of a bowl. Only because I have some really nice looking glass pieces that I like to show off to friends and girls.

VapMan,, You probably didn't realize this but you uttered the "S" word. We never smoke with our Solos.

Old habits, you've come to the right place to break from the smoking of joints and pipes to a cleaner way of medicating.

Remember to Fuckcombustion.

Yeah that's how I did it when I was experimenting with 7.

The temp level 7 would give me more of a body high like smoking a bowl or bong but it also made me cough something that never happened to me when I keep it on 3-4...

Now I usually just keep it on 3 and rarely go to 4.. I find it's the perfect mix of taste and medicated state.. But everyone is different what works for me might not work for you and vice versa.

i like to finish on 6 or 7 late at night but at first I found it too hot and harsh too. My trick to make it work for me is to only draw in half as much as i would at 2 or 3 and its nowhere near as hot or harsh. Just take more small hits and its great for bedtime or a nice couch lock buzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Sounds unrelated. I use mine with pa and charged it this morning, came back and threw it back on for some sessions.

Yeah, so do I all the time.

The unit is out of battery now, so none. Also, there's no light coming on on the actual charger itself. A year for a charger sounds a bit low. At least he's got the PA for now though.

I just ordered one of these beautiful Solo stands from @Ed's TnT You should too! It's considered custom work, so you will have to allow Ed more time to get it to you, but it will be worth the wait! :)

Just get some of these and you can show off your glass with the solo riding on top.

Hi,

I have two battery related questions :

Is it bad for the battery to charge it before it reaches 0-1 lights ?
A typical vaping day with my Solo makes it end up at 2-3 lights on the battery indicator, not allowing another full day after that. Because of that I find myself charging it between two sessions the next day, which I don't find very practical.
If it doesn't damage the battery to begin charging with still 2-3 lights left, it would be simpler for me.

And my next question : is it bad for the battery to start charging the unit at 0-1 light but stop when only 3-4 lights are on ?
From the recommendations I've read in this thread I don't really see a reason for this to be bad, but it can't hurt to have a confirmation.

Also a small observation, I've been trying to follow @OF's recommendations about charging the unit to preserve the battery life, but I've noticed I can't get a last session when the battery level reaches 0 light. Most of the time it will stay on for 3-4 minutes then the red "charge" led will light up and the unit will stop heating.
It also happens sometimes before the end of a session started with 1 light, after 9-10 minutes (on heat 7).

Edit: When the red "charge" led lights up, is it considered a "deep discharge" ?
Also if that helps, I bought my unit in May from MD.

Thanks again, glad to hear it.

I get the fancy glass thing (don't let Ataxian come over, he can show you how to recycle it all.....) but you might consider using the Solo rather than fire? If your glass has normal GonG connectors you can geta mating stem for the Solo or use a tube adapter (what I usually do).

You can also simply wrap some rubber bands on the end of your (straight) stem to get a seal in the GonG fitting or directly to the bowl/downstem. See if that works for you?

There are some very serious vapist around here with very serious glass fetishes. The two go very well together, actually.

Regards and best wishes.

No problems recharging early, or for part of the range (stopping early for session or two before charging again). Many products do this, the goal is to avoid the extreme ends of the range. Just watch the top of charge levels.

In your case I'd charge every day I think. I might even consider stopping the charge a little earlier (if you don't 'run out of lights' each day). Running it from 6 to 2 (say) will probably double the service life over 7 to 3?

Having it stall out (red light) is not good, should be avoided. The problem, again, is the Solo only knows the total of the two batteries, not the weakest one (the PCB protects there 'at the last minute', in deep discharge country). That is bumping into the red could mean on of the two is dangerous close each time.

Again, daily recharges seem like a good plan. Stretching it to two days doesn't seem suited to you?

Confusing enough? With some work, I can probably make it make even less sense......

That was actually quite clear (at least for me), thanks for the information, running from 6 to 2 it will be :)
Sounds perfect for your situation.
Just thought I'd throw in an addition point just to add to the confusion of battery fun.
Running 6-2 suits you because of daily usage and Solo's daily charge time. Even have some elbow room to expand as time goes on. Perfect.
Batteries have a number of cycles rating which determines the life under ideal conditions. The goal of not going close to the top or bottom end of charge, is to achieve this rating or even surpassing, if not topping up 100%.
There is a limit to the gains before losses show from not using the full useful charge spectrum as well.
What I'm trying to say is 6 to 2 is good, however, best remains at 7 (still pulsing) to 0-1 as that extra 1-2 lights is mostly wasted in the overall total life minutes.
Think I said that right.? So now that I've made it even more confusing....
On with the show.

BTW, I too can't get a full cycle once indicator drops off 1.

I think the best compromise is to go until 1 and stop charging when the charging light is still flashing at level 7.

This isn't how I understood it. I thought that the rating is a cumulative number of cycles. That is, if I start at 100%, use it down to 50%, charge it back to 80%, use it down to 40%, charge it to 100%, then I will only have used one cycle when I use it another 10%. In other words, 50+40+10 equals one cycle.

Hmmm, you may very well be right, but I was always told a full charge cycle is the best way to achieve the factory rated number.
Is there not other losses involved with partial charging? Maybe I'm getting the old school battery mixed up.?
If not, I've been avoiding partial charging for no reason....dang. So many times I waited for the battery to hit 7 before I started to use.

Thanks for setting it strait.

As I understand it, that's not the case. It's not that simple (what is....). Each recharge is a cycle, some are very benign, others (deep or 'to the top') not so. Normally you can expect about 300 'full' cycles, but several times that for more 'middle of the road' ones. Worst case is probably full recharges after only a few uses?

It's not like putting gas in your car, unfortunately.

i heard that if you just use your solo per the MFGs recommendation, and not worry about it, that it will be awesome and last you a long time.

True enough. By the numbers it's going to be something like 300 cycles at 8 sessions per. 2400 sessions, give or take. Plenty of time for the warranty to run out on most owners?

Differing technique can multiply that a fair bit. Say 1200 cycles at 6 per for 7200? Three times the useful life.

While 2400 is fine for most owners (if not great), and is enough to get out of warranty, some owners are asking 'how do I get the best battery life?'. I'm thinking by being careful a guy can wear the rest of the Solo out before the battery? Some guys want to avoid the cost, some don't want to mess with opening up the unit to change the battery, some of us just delight in messing with the fine points of the battery I guess?

How this will impact the new style where 'use while charging' really means 'discharge and recharge every 20 or 30 seconds' nobody knows, but for sure it'll be harder on the battery than the old style PA mode ever was. Where PA session were 'off the meter', the 'use while charging' should impact battery life negatively to some extent. Not as much as using in battery mode and recharging of course, but more than PA mode used to.

But yes, following the 'charge it until it stops, use it until you can't' plan will work fine. For a while. For you, and the maker who's ready to sell you a new unit or replacement battery when you're ready.

As it should be the decision is the owners, I just think it should be an informed one.

Thanks for listening again.

oh i get it. i just figured that a replacement battery is about the price of an 1/8...? why even worry about it?

when you think about how many 1/8s go thru a solo in its lifetime... id say its pretty cheap.

some people worry about stuff like that and dont get to enjoy their products as much. i say just use it and enjoy.
