Arizer Solo

I wonder if the new M1D2 I have, or any of the aftermarket battery packs like the ones made & sold by members here, use newer batteries with lower internal resistance because my solo seems to run hotter?

I've said this several times, please let me try once again. There is absolutely no chance that 'better' batteries are making it "run hotter". That's not how this kind of vape works. It's temperature regulated. REGULATED. That means the temperature is controlled by electronics not battery condition. Or 'heater power'. As long as the battery and heater are 'strong enough' to eventually make temperature (and turn the 'heat' LED off for a while) it's at exactly the same temperature that step has ever delivered. The only thing that changes really is time to that first cycle ending. After that it's simply the percentage of time the heater is on that changes, the temperature remains the same.

Looked at another way, the control throttles back the power on cue. Same as engines in cars, past a certain point the driver slacking off the gas (or curse control doing it for him/her). How many potential HP the engine can produce is irrelevant (it only changes the percentage of full throttle used).

Open loop vapes, with no real active temperature control (like Persei, Cera, MFLB and so on) are a different deal. Best to keep the two cases separate, going to higher performance (in terms of flat out power on demand) batteries on taht basis is a simple and needless waste of money. There will be no detectable change for practical purposes. Folks should not blindly waste money here they could spend on dope.

That's the way closed loop systems work......marketing and net.wisdom not withstanding.

Cool, I bought it from Vapefiend so I emailed them to see what they think.

Lol is that why all the PVHES were out of stock haha.I went on for some stems from Vapefiend for the solo as ive had the vape for a week now and like the idea of more efficient stems :-) I checked earlier last week and wish I had bought one before my phone gave up the ghost and I was disconnected from Web. Still at least my replacement allows predictive text now.Upon return of internet access they were out of stock so bought one of Eds Wooden Stems instead.

I do really wish I had joined and read FC before buying the Puffit X which doesn't work, only good thing was the Puffit X screens fit inside the solo stems as I quickly found out I was getting herbs in my mouth becaue of the fine grind. So since getting web back am waiting on my wooden stem to arrive and a pack of solo screens.

Questions for solo users, is there any harm to battery with using vape whilst plugged in? Only ask as heard its still beneficial to buy the charger that the older models need for charging whilst using.

OK i see where the miscommunication lies. When you read me write "run hotter" you assumed I meant it was literally running hotter temperaturewise. I meant "run hotter" as in greater amperage which is misleading for obvious reasons.

Of course there is the issue of temperature calibrations being different between models but that's not battery related.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but a 30A battery with a lower internal resistance versus a 10A battery with a higher internal resistance should be able to "push" a greater quantity of power and get the heater up to its proper temperature quicker. In that way it was like hooking a 7.5V PA up to your Solo and having it "hit harder" because it was pulling ~2.5 amps versus the ~1 or whatever it was that the Solo pulled off battery power alone.

This is also why I thought the Persei ran a lot better with those Sony 30A cells vs. the normal AW ones. But again if I am wrong about any of this let me know please.

Consider yourself corrected. That 30 Amp (potential) battery will not give any significant advantage at the two Amps (maximum) the Solo will need. The much much larger heater resistance dominates the equation, the few hundredths of an Ohm improvement in internal resistance is trivial. Granted the Lamborghini next to your Toyota in rush hour traffic might use it's 700 HP to advantage in other conditions, but your 100 is doing the same job in traffic. The speed of traffic is what's regulating your speed. Not what's under the hood.

However, in this case, the trade offs made to get that exceptional current performance mean that the things we care about (total capacity per charge, total lifetime of the battery and so on) have been sacrificed. Ironically, this makes 'the best' a poorer choice here.

Looked at another way, Arizer Engineers aren't stupid. Nor are the Laptop guys. That's why they tend to use the batteries they do (and notice how Dell and Arizer came to the same solution here.....). They both face the same issues in their products (similar goals and power levels).

IMO the smart money is with the very sort of batteries the factory is using......or they'd use something different.

As I said, Persei is a whole other matter. It's open loop. That's why it's performance is so effected by batteries.

Very well said!
I take a different approach!
When the batteries need replacing which is rare. I use the same mah rating the electronics designers used.
They know more than I so I follow their lead. It seems this approach works for me!

The SOLO Battery Pack is slightly better than what I replace them with however pretty close on performance.
Good enough!

Solo noob here... Love it so far, but I have a few questions... Is it normal for the temp to drop from 5 down to 1 while taking a hit? Am I pulling to hard? Also I know loose stems are the down fall to the solo... But is it normal for it to be loose after 2 days out of the box?

When I had my older model it would only lower down one temp setting and only for a few seconds. Is it the newer model?

Get the red o-ring, that fixes the loose stem issue

Yeah it's one of the M1D2 models. It will heat back up after a few seconds... But then I have to wait for another pull. Wasn't expecting it to drop so drastically after each hit:(

You need the after market seals!
If you order a glass PHVES stem from Planet Vapes you will get one.

The 2 SOLO's I own both are fitted with seals.

That huge of a drop is probably you pulling too hard. The stems loosen up with heat, yes. When my Solo is cold the stems take some pushing to get in, once it's warmed up after a session I can take them out very easily.

Thats interesting it does that. I feel I could rip mine as hard as I wanted on the water pipes or just dry and never had a problem with it dropping like that. My new model one should be here by friday!! It will be nice to have a super reliable, ultra easy to use portable again.

Ok I'll give them a shot!
Will this help with the temp drop?

Yeah dude idk. Should I get ahold of the guys at Arizer? I'll try and put a video up with it doing it.

It does provide a better seal!

Add the seal first and see if this corrects it. If not sent it back for warranty. I work on mine myself however I just go for it! If you bought it from a licensed dealer send it in. The seal's made a big difference for me.

My old M107 is strong and powerful as the day I took her out of the box.
My newer one I changed out the battery pack and it's my driver. I had a bad cell in one of the two batteries. Rare situation I'm sure.
I'm not qualified to say what your issue is? I hope the addition of the seal is enough?
Otherwise send it back!
These thing are great really!

I'll deff pick some up, thanks brother. And I think I was pulling way to f'in hard because now it isn't doing it... Maybe it was because the battery was basically dead. Forgive me, I'm heavily medicated.
If that's not a testament to this product idk what is.:dog:

Hey guys anyways I settled for the solo...When you consistently see people mentioning it is probably the best, I just couldn't resist lol. I love the taste of the vapor, delicious lol
Also I find it quite efficient. I filled up the bowl once and didn't replace for three people.
Anyways I went ahead and ordered off www.montrealvaporizers.com I figured I would give them a shot lol... Everything went smooth as can be!
Just a heads up, obviously AFTER I purchased mine, I see a nice banner go up on their site stating they offer 15% discount on all vapes :( Code is 15VAPOFF
Not sure if it expires soon, gotta contact them to see if I can get that applied to my solo since I literally just got it.

Hang on... A new battery is much cheaper and can almost double your sessions... Plus super easy to do it yourself. Easy on the wallet :)

I can sell it for 100 and just spend 60 for a new one. Not a big deal. I also don't plan on buying the replacement until this summer anyways as I don't really use my solo at school as much as my MFLB or Pax.

Once I have the money I am going to potentially buy a Da Vinci for ~$140.

I like how each vape has its own technique. I will master them all one day .

Beyond the battery being shot I have found the airflow to have become almost unbearable to inhale. I have to pull SO much for such little vapor now as compared to when I first got it. Can the four holes at the bottom become clogged with AVB?

Hehe. You'll learn to talk Ataxian soon enough. I think I'm high enough to try: I think he meant the school of vaporizers!

As for the holes in the heater, I put a shirt over it, turn it upside down, and give it a few sharp inhales. Clears out whatever falls in. Since using my Solo inverted almost 100% of the time it stopped being an issue. Airflow can be a bit finicky sometimes, there's a certain angle with my straight stem that completely blocks off the airflow. Otherwise with a nice grind and proper pack I don't find myself finding airflow to be a problem dry or wet. If you're pulling hard enough to make your lungs want to implode, you're drawing too hard. So easy for me to pull sweat-inducing hits with my stock straight stem even at 4.
