I'm sorry I'm still not buying tons of pressure...if I compare what I press to @BoogerMan 's they look the same other than my pattern is square due to having square plates...yields look the same...my chips are about the same if not smaller. Now don't get me wrong, @BoogerMan 's setup is the bees...

I did a 190 degree press with my 4.5" Irwin vise and @Joel W. OG plates...yup one of the original square config...I got wax/butter consistency. At 210-220, I get almost shatter if it sits a day, off the press and room temp, it's perfect; not gooey and not flying pieces of shatter. I do hydrate...

Man those look awesome....btw, so far so good on mine...did 8 presses the other night and the plates feel like they are sticking to the wood with no issues since roughing up the smooth metal surface and JB weld :tup:

I have a 4.5" irwin vise from Lowes that squishes fine and it's classified as light duty...clamping force says 300lbs...I saw rosin flowing so :shrug:

@herbivore21 My :2c: on this was to go as inexpensive as I could but have a big enough opening to fit the plates + blocks of wood on the plates. Once I recieved the plates from @Joel W. , I measured them with the wood on both sides so I knew how much of a gap would be needed. I found a light...

Oh great, now you show those soldering irons...hehe, just messing with ya...ours are adjustable...just got spend the time and find the sweet spot :)

I decided to go with a regular vise instead of arbor press...didn't like the idea of having to hold the arm to keep pressure. Just got the $30 Irwin 4.5 inch...haven't constructed anything yet and its returnable if there is a better solution. But I think I may just stick with what I have.

Got my plates today, thanks @Joel W. !! You guys are starting to sway me from getting the arbor press...I had a plan but now not so sure.

Just remember who asked first, hehe, jk. This is what I'm going with and an arbor press; and the soldering irons with rheostats on each to adjust temperature (maybe get stronger than 60w irons...we'll see). Keep my @Been Vapin setup as a backup/travel press :D

@2clicker we've brought that idea up before and the consensus was that those pads couldn't heat up metal plate well enough...not to say it couldn't work, but I had same thought as you a while back. I don't have any way to manufacture plates like @Bouldorado and @Joel W. ...I love the soldering...

Yes, I believe pressure does increase temperature due to molecular/atomic friction....you're forcing things into a smaller space, and since there is no empty space, particles on up, when compressed, typically get hotter when under pressure. Examples: Look at the early universe...small and HOT...

Yup, sheet is only used once :) I have several sheets ready to go (did some pressing to have for a couple days, lol).
