Is the lighter colored scratch/chip what you are referring to as the dried out grains?
In theory the dry grains should soak up any oil you try to condition them with, perhaps the natural oil in that part of the wood are working against that process?

I couldn't understand if you were saying this device does or doesn't come apart.

As far as hand sanding wood goes.

Any sanding you do will quickly change the look of cut or routed edges, they will no longer have that clean cut or sharp look.

Don't go below 120 grit paper, as rougher/lower grits will be too aggressive and may also cause scratches that you will just have to sand out with a finer paper. I would start with 240 grit just to be safe.

The initial sanding you do will be taking off the oil coating that is on the wood and will gum up your paper quickly, don't be shy to change out the paper as it clogs.

Sand along the grain, not across it.

As you are sanding you are sculpting, you are making a bespoke piece, one of a kind.
Sometimes blemishes and mistakes in wood cause one to throw that piece in the burn pile, but sometimes they become that most beautiful and cherished feature.

Can't help on the wine and food coloring side of things. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. :spliff:

Contact DV CS if you haven't already, the product you bought isn't working as intended/advertised.
I'm referring to the deep grains that are driving between probably something you really have to see in person.
This one comes apart it has been taken apart so it's not an issue taking the sleeve off on its own to sand things better.

I'm going to let it soak a couple of days and some butcher block oil and see if that helps If not then I'll take your suggestion at a higher grit and just slightly hit it to level out the deep grains they kind of look like when wood has been neglected and dried out in the past it starts to shrink and crack a little bit l

if this was not a problem with so Meany i would eat it but its not just a 1 time thing its meany thats why i sent a tip ad cap back even though they had already sent me a replacement
Being a big fan of DV since the beginning I was just gonna eat it, but you are right, $50 is too much to just eat for a part I can't use.

Like most of you, I'm pretty disappointed in what I've seen so far with the M+. Only thing I like the looks of so far is the airport. Although the I really like the 2021 stems, I'm not the the biggest fan of the airports and prefer the pre 2020 styles.
The look of the stem is growing on me but I still don't like the tip.

Yeah, i'm on the same page. The Troy and Jerry and George vid is interesting; he explains his thought process and how he responded as best he could to the desire for bigger hits while keeping within his system. And also how they wanted to make it look like nothing else ever, while making it uncopyable. In the background Jerry's floating away on giant rips from the new M. Vapefiend George seemed to really like it too. I'm open to it. I am not sure I'll ever love the design of either part or both together, but if they work well or better even, I can have a laugh while I toke. Who knows, maybe a year from now we'll want all our vapes to be twig-like. ; )

I think it’s admirable how George incorporates organic looks and feel to these metal devices. Weed is organic, the process by which we consume it is organic, it’s nice to have the tech that we use to consume it be in touch with that.

I don’t think there’s ever been a Dynavap design I’ve outright disliked. I’m not a big fan of the 2020 M and I think the current VonG was a step back from the WonG that preceded it (which I bought outright because of the look the day it went on sale), but in general I think the design team at Dynavap is one of the best in the industry. So many vapes look like mass market recycled boxes, Dynavap is one of the few that puts a lot of thought into form and how it can improve or enhance function.

The 20 M was very different. I didn't like it much at the time, it looked like a Transformer or something, but by the time the refined '21 came out, I was used to it and liked it better. The Vong, I agree on. I love it now but when I first saw it I thought it looked like the sophomore shop class binge-watched LOTR and designed a vape over the weekend. The Omni, it looked like two vapes from two eras: it came out around the time we were watching WandaVision and it looked like a vape transitioning from one TV era to the other, Jet-age to pixelated. Very weird but I totally love it now. They all grew on me.

Still, the twig with the deer-feeder on top...eventually I'll be going on about I like how rustic it is.

This is my favorite M design to date. It feels like the successor to the WonG and I am super curious how different/better the new tip is. I might be talking myself into ordering one tomorrow.
Do it and let us know! They all seemed happy with them, maybe they're awesome. When do they ship? Seriously, though, there's probably gonna be 420 deals.

I wish they'd make that stem in wood, that would be cool.

This looks like the first iteration of this VonG, and if so, it does not disassemble.

Edit: I was wrong, according to @PutOneInTheAir it does disassemble. I have one of the ones you can’t take apart and it’s one of my favorite DVs.

As to the new M+, I’ll probably buy one. Around here DV is sometimes like Reddit, everybody hates them but they still show up.

Watching the Troy and Jerry interview with George convinced me to buy an M+. Design aside, which I love, it does seem like the changes will result in a more enjoyable experience. I love them going down to two O rings, and I am so interested in trying the new tip and the potential for new heating techniques.

George’s passion and his love of physics and engineering comes through in all of his interviews.

Well, circumstances have dictated that I will hold off on the M+ for now. I just replaced an old damaged water piece and got some WPA for my Vapwood Timber, plus I already have the WonG which lets me use a water piece natively. On top of all that, I just found a deal on a paudauk Sticky Brick Runt so that took up the budget I would have used on the M+. I look forward to hearing impressions from others and will check back to see if there are any good 4/20 deals on it.

I didn’t expect the new looks of the M+. At first I didn’t like it, but it starts to grow on me.

The new tip really sparks my interest. For years I wanted cooler vapor and finally this year the hits are smoother according to the Vapefiend men. I’m very curious how smooth the hits are if the M+ is combined with an intercooler.

I’m afraid that I end up with a new M this year.

Wanted to share this over here: you sometimes get a surprise with your Dreamwood DV stem!

DV got back to me and suggested to squeeze the cap on the digger and opposite side and see if that helps. Of course I HAVE been doing that as I do with a regular captive cap where it works fine, and I find if I try that with as much effort as I can possibly apply I CAN get the cap off. I just don't have the finger strength necessary to do that all the time "comfortably". I have been unable to bend the cap and can only flex the cap using this maximum force.

I am about to take a forced T-break for a month or so so maybe I'll just let this ride until I am back in action and try again...

I believe someone here posted on using something dowel-shaped, hard, and just smaller than the diameter to kind of pry/force the indents to be shallower (I think they used their M's mouthpiece).

Yeah, I tried that with an M and it didn't help much. I suspect that there is a type of pliers that could probably do it, but all I have is a needle nose and the thickness of the walls of the AC prevent the nose from closing on the captivator.

I know you guys don’t want to hear this, but the tightness of the Armored cap and the FMJ is just something you going to live with. Let it cool until it can be handled or use something to protect yourself from heat, they are both heavier/hotter and not something you want falling off. The AC actually works nice with the all glass add-a-cap where I found it hard to maintain a secure normal captive cap and don’t even try a non-captive cap that’s a danger zone. You could squeeze the AC in vice would be a successful way to adjust it, but when it wears you’ll probably have to adjust back to tighten at some point. The tightness is for a reason, your protection, don’t like it don’t buy it. :2c:

Right, but there's also some tolerance variation between tips not to mention the style differences, and if it's too tight for your tip, ie, you can't get it on and off, then it's helpful to have a way to adjust it slightly.

Edit: Mine is grippy but fine with the M tip, tight but unscrewable with the std Ti tip, and sort of a pain with the Omni and Vong tips, pulling them out every time. I haven't messed with the indents because the M and Ti tips kinda cover the cap's range nicely, I feel.

Been using my AC daily for the last 2 weeks since getting it. Never had a problem with it falling off on its own. Never had a problem with pulling the tip out either. That's how I assume the AC is intended to work. I just think it's faulty and Dynavap should replace it.

I know many people over the years have wondered about the materials used in the click disc, since they’re in the vapor path. Today, someone on Reddit made a post about their new armored cap clicker disc being marked with “E4”. After all this time I think we finally know what the Chemical Composition is.

I’m not knowledgeable enough to comment if these compositions are safe or not…but maybe someone with a background in metallurgy or science will weigh in.
