I've read all of the messages in this thread, more than once, and after owning my own Cricket for a couple of days (HEAVY TESTING), I needed to address some things that nearly prevented me from buying one.

a bb is too much for this thing, half bb seems to get the least amount of splatter and be about one decent sized hit.

I load a bb, sometimes even more, and do not get any splatter. I did train myself to inhale super slowly, by using an inverted glass rig so I would get instant visual feedback (and it's very nice to look at if you're into vape porn like me). I've had FULL SESSIONS with this little beast on lower temps, like 420.

the trench weld is a bit sloppy, leaving open holes in all four corners that more than anything catch cotton from swabs something awful.

I don't use qtips unless i'm doing a deeper clean on the oven and want to scrub. They have tightly spun swabs that don't fray like the qtip brand. Regardless, I use a simple single iso wipe that costs pennies, and quickly wipe in the inside of the lid and then the tub and surrounding and it's quickly and effortlessly clean without anything snagging. Not really an issue IMO.

he packaging was missing two parts included in the instructions- the chimney cleaner and the alan wrench.

Although I did receive everything I was supposed to, my unit was loose and knocking around the acrylic casing with the loose lid. This defeats the purpose of the figurine display style casing, and also the case is useless to me now and i'd rather it costs a few bucks less than having a useless case. I dunno, the blemished unit I have coming on its way doesn't come with one so maybe there will be some collectors wanting it? lol

the use of silicon as the concentrate container seems like a bit of a step backwards.

Yeah i'm not too sure what to think about this and I asked Brandon about it and was told it's all good and safe even with ISO. I'm not sure about both of these, but at the same time i'm not sure what they could have used that would have been better? Not sure that glass would work in there and would need a lid anyways. I loaded about 2-3 dabs in it and it was great on the go with that nifty mag tool.

the bucket, being titanium, rocks a nice skid mark now from the center being the main heat point.

Ya Ti changes colour, some people like it, and my skid mark changes. I don't give a shit what the tub looks like, as long as it's clean and tastes like flavour country.

All in all I’d say it’s solidly not worth the price, but it’s fun.

100% disagree. It's worth the price and more. I know I can't even believe i'm saying this lol I did grab a blemished unit too, so at $249 it's really a no brainer. There is nothing like this in the world, and look what Puffco gets away with charging and people line up for it with preorders lol

If I were more savvy I’d close the little tiny pinholes that catch, but yeah as it stands my v5 is still seeing action just because there’s one less step of making sure there’s no stray strands.

Try the iso wipes!

I’d argue they never mentioned any downsides ever, like a salesman.

This is a downside I admit. The cap detection magnetic thing doesn't work perfectly and sometimes it's for sure annoying. Fortunately, with escribe, you can completely disable this. I haven't done it yet but i'm going to. You lose the lid off preheat melt detection thing, but who cares, you can pulse because it won't be regulated. Problem solved (for me anyways)

as anyone tried the Lightening Pen by Divine Tribe? It’s literally what the cricket promised, except it can heat clean itself as well. I’m getting fat clouds, can put a little MORE than a bb, and it’s like 14 mm on the mouthpiece if I wanted to add water filtration.

I was thinking about it, but it doesn't have the temp control of the cricket, and I heard it's messy AF and a pain to maintain. Also there are parts that aren't safe to soak in iso, the battery life isn't as good, and i've read about too many issues on the DvT subreddit. Plus it's harder to load and having to heat clean over several cycles with reclaim everywhere turns me off of it. I don't think you can even compare the two.

My biggest sell for the cricket was “it’d be great for a trade show where you’re being offered lots of different strains and need to be able to clean between”, but lightening pen qtips better AND can heat clean itself. I can’t see any areas in which the cricket outperforms

LOL the Cricket doesn't even NEED heat cleaning and I bet you it's always cleaner since no reclaim gets underneath an atomizer. People having literally MELTED the GLAZING off their ceramic bowls from heat cleaning only 3 cycles. I don't have a lightning pen but if you can't see ANY areas in which the Cricket outperforms it, then you simply have a bias or an agenda IMO.

To people just getting into this thread, save your money, you’ll be looking for a better device sooner than later.

I'm SO happy I didn't listen to you! And instead of buying another device like the lightning pen or Proxy, I ended up buying a second Cricket!

The Cricket is an endgame vape for me and it's going to really take something to top it! Nice work Evolv!

it's messy AF and a pain to maintain.

I can state that this is true.
Not only is the LP harder to load without spilling, the amount of clean-up requred is quite off-putting.
I can't do 1 sesh without having to completely clean the LP, or, the cap will glue onto the device.

harder to load

Yep, sure is.
It's a tiny little hole u gotta jam xtracts into.

Also, I'd like to mention that the Cricket really doesnt need water filtration, unlike the LP.
The vapor comes out smooth and tasty.
If you don't care for the taste of your extracts, well ok, I do.
I also appreciate not needing water tool when I'm on the go. It's much more low profile to use a device without having a big ol bubbler attached to it (however, I'm gonna try that Dab Cap hack just for giggles).

Again, flavor. Water mutes flavor, and so does a long vapor path.
The LP does hit like a train, no doubt, but, the constant heavy cleaning required is a pain.

Any Cricket owners try the onboard temperature calibration?

I did, and wow what a difference it made for me.
Since calibrating, I've gone down from 535 F to 420 F , and might go even lower !
I didn't see what the resistance said on mine though, sorry.
Lemme see... I'll recalibrate right now and see.
OK it says 12.08 MO, 'excellent' on mine.
When I calibrated the 1st time, it took about 60 seconds to finish calibrating.
Now when I do it, it instantly comes back with 12.08 excellent. :p
The advice from Evolv is to calibrate about once a month with heavy use. :)

Thought it would be interesting to compare the final ohms reading you can see briefly on screen after the countdown finishes.

MY OHMS: 11.8 mOhms. It also said; “EXCELLENT”.

Mine reads 11.11mOhms “Excellent”

Escribe shows the live readout as well using the atomizer analyzer tool.

Uh
What is the 'm' for , before ohms ?

EScribe_tbKNINLTbM.png

Well
Looks like I'm in the zone !
Gotta say tho I wish it was 71.88 F inside my room. It's more like 56.5 ! Brr...

Uhh so
How do I change this to mOhms ?

Ahhh got it

EScribe_Ff6eujAjdZ-updated.png

Just had to update my Escribe to sp50, and it even changed my theme to dark ! Very nice :)
Thanks y'all !
Oh and I re-calibrated, this time, it took 80 seconds.

Move the decimal point three places to the right. 0.01181Ω = 11.81mΩ

:)

While I'm typing I was wondering if those that received the not-quite-perfect crickets would comment on the condition of the unit. I don't mind a few scratches or dings, but not loose buttons or a less than perfect display or parts fit.

Also, if I understand correctly the spare chimney and 5 spare on board dab container accessory items aren't included. It looks like I can get the 5 spare on board dab containers by using the coupon code "skunkpucks" but is it a good idea for me to buy the spare chimney at the same time?

Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to ask, does it come with a manual? I looked online on the evolve web site but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to download manuals.

I expect to place an order in the weeks following receiving it for 1 or more spare chimneys and tubs. (I believe in being prepared :) )

Sheeiitt. All ready to jump on a blem unit and just saw the tiny disclaimer about legal states only. I will wait a bit longer...

Hey. I just talked with the president of Evolv about that.
He said to ignore that, he forgot to remove it. He is removing it now.
Go ahead and buy ! ninjapucks code for free dab pucks ! (the storage silcone for the on board storage ) :)

Edit: You can check the site again, and see that it'll be removed :p ) !

No real need to “burn off”, as I tested its ability to do so, but there isn’t much if anything to burn off, and you can easily remove the titanium heater tub if you really felt compelled to do a deep clean.

I'm debating removing the tub as I did a fairly intensive burn off at 600 and was surprised how much vape came off and from all the nooks and crevices. I guess i'm loading bigger bb's than I should be lol

The tub is easy, some resin vapor gets in there over time, I was surprised how little. The large silicone gasket is the one that’s a bitch to get back in, and in my opinion not necessary to remove as nothing is going to get under that the way it’s stuffed in.

A quick swab with either 190 ethanol or 99% ISO, and all around the area and your good for a long time depending on your usage of course. Occasional burn offs are probably just as good, though doing often will decrease the overall battery life in time. So I don’t do them now after the tests I originally posted here. I tend to clean after every tub load. First QTip is dry and fluffed up, that gets the tub excess oil, I’m using holding the ON button at a CAP-OFF temperature of 150-200f, then I swab with a damp QTip #2, will solvent mentioned above. Use same one to swab inside cap, especially the glass chimney end.

When you screw the Allan screws back in, they just stop, no real torque. So I tighten them, then heat up the device a bit or after a hit, then try to tighten one more time, good connection = good mOhm readings.

Oh, thought I’d add…. really try small loads, two hits, if your glass chimney gets clogged that’s the MAIN sign you are over loading. Of course different concentrates will effect the size, some shatter less runny then waxes etc. Go small at first, better to reload more often, then cleaning more often. :)

Attacking the credibility of members publicly and calling their opinions BS breaks our Be Nice rule. Warning point issued.
I'm happy to see real comparisons and feedback about all devices

Gee I'm sick of the embellishment to either sell or run down a device
The LP most certainly does not get as dirty as described above
It is quite easy to maintain, there is a bit of reclaim to swab after some dabs

But to say the lid gets glued shut after one sesh is ridiculous and it detracts from the credibility of all other statements made by someone
That's not genuine feedback or comparison
It's blatant BS to create an image that serve your purpose
Same as the Chinese/local manufacturer BS that happened above earlier
Trying to slyly attack another company (another American company) and not look at their own backyard

This misinformation and obvious marketing techniques ruin these forums and the community for everyone
Information that is factual is what we all need

Actually, kind person, I don't get anything from talking about the Cricket.
I DO get sales commision from selling the LP.
So there you go.
It's not 'ridiculous' to say it gets messy quite quickly, either.
I'm not the only one to mention this.
You seem to think I work for Evolv, or that, I have some vested interest in 'pushing' their sales.
I do not.
I have made a living from 'pushing' DT products, I will freely admit that.
Yes, if one buys one thru the link on my review, I get some commission.
However, nothing I say here on FC Forum gets me any kickback whatsoever.
You're barking up the wrong tree.
Now, why would I be motivated to sell LESS lightning pens, when, if one buys one thru my site, I get a kickback?
I"ve brought Matt from DT over $30,000 in sales, thru my site.
I'm the biggest DT fan you could find, and, a friend of Matt's and business partner too.
Even Matt 'like'd my IG post about the cricket.
Don't try to tell me I'm suddenly NOT a fan of DT products. I used the V5 just yesterday.
My personal opinion, however, is that the LP is not comparable to the V5 or Cricket.
Sorry ?
My opinions here are sincere, I'm not paid to talk about how good or bad a device is here on FC .

EDIT: I can think of 10 reasons why US made is better than Chinese made, I'm sorry that you can't.

Fair enough mate that's gives more credibility to you liking the cricket

It doesn't mean this statement is true
I fail to see this glueing on of the lid after one session
This one line is the only reason I replied at all tbh
Unless you over load it on purpose
It also isn't that hard to load at all
Maybe the cricket is easier, but the LP is easier than some other pens I have too and not difficult
And I could see it getting dirty and messy if you never qtipped it, but I find it's easier to maintain than other pens

So it's cool to have enthusiasm for a device you think is better, I do that at times
But the lid being glued on in one session is not something I am able to see happening with usual use and that triggered my post, the embellishment
I apologise, I'll leave the thread again unless I come to own one

Enjoy your crickets people
Happy vaping 🙂
