The CORRECT way to store your bud?

I believe if the vacuum was very strong, the Boveda packs may not have much effect, as you state.
But I’ve been testing the little hand vacuum sealer, I’ve mentioned buying in my posts above. I suck the air out of a both 8oz & 16oz Wide mouth Mason jars, run the little vacuum sealer a 2nd time, until I hear the lid “pop”. It’s NOT a perfect vacuum.

My tests also have NOT included any herb in the jar, as I’ve only been testing how this vacuum affects the internal humidity.
I’ve tested with just the air in the jar, then with 62% Boveda pack in the jar. Using the Bluetooth humidity gauges, I’ve also posted in this thread.

The internal humidity after this vacuum seal, is usually between 7-9% loss. This backs up the research I’ve done online that both air and humidity are sucked out under vacuum. But with a Boveda pack in the jar, the humidity slowly returns to about 62% and stays there. I assume that indicates the vacuum is certainly not able to get all the air out, and thus the Boveda packs are still able to do the job. The vacuum should allow the packs to last much longer, as no new air is able to get in, after vacuum, it’s hard to pry the Ball jar lids off, they seal extremely well.

My goal was NOT long term storage, as I’m satisfied with my CVaults and AirScape canisters, each having Boveda packs in them, as well as Bluetooth humidity gauges. I can check their humidity levels on an iPad or iPhone.

I wanted to use vacuum sealing on the Ball jars, for herb I may not open for just a week or two. My LIMITED tests with the equipment I am using, have made me conclude that that INCLUDING a Boveda pack WORKS, under the limited vacuum the handheld unit is capable of producing, and I don’t see a downside.

As far as you saying:
“And why would you want to add oxygen to a jar you just created a vacuum in? Also, Oxygen creates free radicals, which in turn break down the compounds in your bud.”.

I don’t know who said that, folks in this thread have talked about using oxygen ABSORBING packs! I’ve never used them, and my short term vacuum storage plans don’t call for that, though for those considering LONG TERM storage, it might be something to consider?

Decent short article:

I didn't read through the whole thread, sorry. I have a food sealer that creates a good vacuum, although I'm sure far from what it could be. However, dry bud has keep very well long term. had a jar Iopened 1 year later and the buds looked and smoke as good as the day I sealed it. I'm curious about your partial vacuum.

I'm curious about your partial vacuum.

I mentioned it here:

Using it with the Ball Jar Sealers here:

Also finding it useful to vacuum seal the unused Boveda packs in a small Ball Jar.

What would happen if you vacuum sealed a jar with an oxygen remover and a boveda in it?
I have stored and used the same herb from my current mumma plant strain for about 4-6 years and the same strain before that for about 15 years. I have stored bud for up to 3 years before consuming and found burping until 62-63%, Boveda, Vac seal and oxy absorb to be the best at retaining the fresh feel/smell when stored for over a year and I get to test it against its fresher cloned vintage.
the vacuum is certainly not able to get all the air out, and thus the Boveda packs are still able to do the job.
I doubt even adding the oxygen-absorbing packs I use gets it all out. I have not had my humidity gauges move until I open the jar either.
I have slowed my growing to match my vaping consumption now so I rarely have to store for more than 6 months after curing.

I still have a jar with a Boost pack in it that will be 12 months old in March that I am hanging out to try to see how the Boost compares to the Boveda as I was asked to try them.

Thanks again for recommending the mini FoodSaver vacuum. I’m finding many uses for it, mostly Ball Jar stuff, but also non vaping uses, bought some of their reusable Gallon and Quart bags.

I tried vacuum sealing some jars before, keep in mind the vacuum is really weak, I realized this after being able to open it by hand. I know you want to be able to open it by hand, but other stuff with even a slight vacuum I was totally unable to open. Also, when releasing the vacuum it makes you realize it's not really much vacuum. Other stuff releasing the vacuum is a total event.

That is totally dependent on the vac sealer you use, my handheld unit can be opened with a bit of effort but my AC-powered sealer makes it almost impossible to get the lid off. Mechanical advantage is sometimes needed to get them open and when it lets go there is a loud whoosh and the buds jump about from the action.

Guess a few variables play into it. I never really used it much, just kinda figured this must suck and stopped using it.

Or not enough! I found my battery-powered unit is good for keeping smells in but you have to run it for a long time to get anywhere and guess when it is finished. The wall-powered unit shuts itself off when done so no guessing needed.

The latest version of the portable FreshSaver vacuum, now has Auto shutoff. When using the Ball jar attachment, I run it once till it auto stops, pull from adapter, then run for a 2nd cycle, usually I can hear the metal canning lid POP inward. Great seal, hard to get off.

I have a very newbie cannabis question.

Can you leave dry cannabis outside in a shed during all seasons or does it have to be in a controlled environment?

I am hoping to be able to have all my cannabis and accessories outside in a shed but its not insulated or temperature controlled. So right now its cool inside and opposite for summer it gets quite warm inside it.

Thanks for the replies in advance!

Is this directed at me? If that is what this site thinks I am trying to do then they would be wrong. I am overwhelmed with what vaporizer to get or how to go about this and happened to find this site in hopes of being able to learn, ask some bad questions at times and eventually I hope make some smart decisions sooner than later so I can help deal with my chronic pain

i think he was kidding

anyway, listen, weed has compounds that will evaporate, so if your weed is not dry enough ask your vendor why. dry weed should be almost as strong as a stone and contain 6%-12% of water when dried. if it hasn't been dried well enough the root of your problem to bring good dried weed
taking it outside can evaporate terpenes/thca/thcd9 which you want to use, not to throw away

99% of the times : use dry CVault box + 62% Bodeva, never let your buds outdoor ...

I thought this was aimed at CleanHippie as they were obviously doing that.

For those that store with boveda or boost packs. How do you know the pack is done?
The Boost comes with a 'patch' that changes colour.
The Boveda can dry out if used only to rehydrate dried-out bud but none of mine have as I burp to 62% then vac seal etc. Boveda if dried out can be sealed in a container with water (not in the water) so the pack can rehydrate itself). I have had mine for many years and a couple are looking a bit scruffy but are still spongy/pliable.

Damn. I need the replacement card indicator. The dispensary didn’t give me those cards with the weed I bought that had boost packs. When I finish their weed I re use the boost packs for my home grown. No way to tell by looking at the actual pack eh? The indicator is on a separate card that goes in with the weee as well I’ve read. Or maybe I’m still high.

I have received some Boost packs with a container product I bought, and some free ones that came with other purchases.
I’ve NEVER had or seen these color changing cards. So I continue to buy Boveda Packs, I write the date on the pack when I first start using them, and I like that when they dry out, you KNOW it’s time to replace them, though I’m monitoring the humidity in my various containers via Bluetooth gauges. Unopened packs get stored in vacuum sealed Ball/Kerr jar.
