Every log no matter the manufacturer runs within a specified range, usually controlled with a vvps that shows values. When you buy a log it is often customary for the manufacture, atleast in my case, to specify a voltage setting to start with. The thing about the CL is that it is one of the most satisfying vapes I have ever used, the hits are other worldly...but this took some time to get to. Every vape no matter how fool proof will take some behavioral adaptations to become proficient in terms of all the miscellaneous variables at play. I believe the CL is worth trying to figure out, but some vapes click for some while others can just be troublesome. If your vape is working and you just haven't figured it out I don't think makes it anything that is worth mentioning as a deficit. Like I said, I figured out my blackwood and it performs very very well, it just took me some time to get there.

Sorry for the double post but c'mon...
Excuse my dirty wpa...long weekend of celebrating my graduation :ko:

Yup agree, this is why I've only missed two days of using it in the last six months.

Yup agree, my TetraX for me is like this within different stems. Some stems I just can't use no matter what.

Thanks, this has been helpful.

@TeaCup I don’t think I’d even get visible vapor at level 3, but I do struggle with hot spotting as well with this vape. The AVB never comes out very even for me. I’m usually running around 7 with the stock bowl and 8+ with the glass bowl through water. If I go down to 5-6 for dry hits, the hot spotting is less of an issue, but I don’t feel like I’m getting full extraction at those temps.
This post most closely matches my experience.

Also agree with @Grass Yes I try not to care too much about the color of my avb. I just tossed it, otherwise I'd show pics. I notice some hot spotting occasionally but I usually shoot for a pretty slow, even draw since that tends to bring the best flavor. This leads to a light brown avb that could probably be pushed for another puff or two, but doesn't nearly have the taste of the first.

Moisture also plays a role. A lot of my bud is on the drier side atm so I've had to lower the temp. But things like this are the only kind of finagling I've dealt with.

Thank you. This was an awesome post especially considering your post pushed me over the edge, super helpful with my psyche. It appears I have a super finicky one then. Not gonna lie - this is a bummer. I have a Kingswood one and as soon as I realized I really like this vape I started thinking of selling this one and getting a different wood type anyways. Looks like this is becoming more tempting.

Two last question I think for people: Do you think it's unethical for me to sell this considering how finicky it is? And is this how other logs operate in regards to having such a wide range within different peoples units and the hotspotting at say medium to medium high temps?
I don't think it's unethical to sell as long as you're upfront with the buyer about it and the price is fair.

There's a good log comparison thread-
https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/which-log.52606/ maybe ask there to get the most eyes on it. My log experience is too limited to offer a solid take re: operating ranges.

Well that's kind of the problem, what am I supposed to be upfront about? Apparently my CL works, so telling someone that it works so haphazardly basically is sorta killing my chance of a sale, right?

I am not 100% sure, but from your posts and @Zillacon it sounds like it is less finicky or defective and more not right for you. As you said, you have it more than a fair shit. And I think you can see the appeal. But I don't think you are misleading anyone if you offer it up for sale. If someone asks why you are selling, you could point to this thread. Or you could say, it was a $400 experiment that turned out to not be for me. 😄

I never said my shit was fair. My shit is nothing but a lying, cheating, good for nothing........um, piece of shit? :shit:

I applaud you Grass Yes, you made me use the pile of poop emoji which I never thought would happen, lol.

My first vape was a G Pen something or other. Piece of :shit: . I've now met my 2022 quota for poop emoji's.

For the record, I think you gave it a fair shot. 😄

I used a storz and bickel capsule the top part as a screen for my CL mouthpiece did some cutting to fit it in.
Much more easier to maintain can be clean with alcohol pad without removing the screen.

Since the manufacturer of CL is not a well established company that can be counted on to provide spare parts or repair service in 5 years or so, I have a few noob questions regarding repairability:

1) I guess the power supply is just a regular VVPS, with no thermostat, fancy PID or any feedback from the heater, and the temperature is determined just by the heat dissipating properties of the device?

2) Are there any electronic and/or delicate parts that can easily break down due to heat stress or other reasons in the main device (i.e., not counting the VVPS)?

What I'm asking is, could I repair the device easily if I have basic skills in electronics and such? For example, I can put together simple electronic stuff like induction heaters, headphone amplifiers, etc.
Thanks for any help!

If you read the thread, you will see that the power supply is not a regular vvps at all, but a custom-made pwm. There are no parts that can easily break from heat stress, and the unit is very sturdy. Still, Chris has been good about parts and repairs, and theres no reason to suspect that he will be unable to help with servicing in the future.

As Raz said, the thread is short and most of the build details are at the beginning. The custom PWM is great, in my opinion and could probably be repaired pretty easily by someone with electronics repair expertise. However you can run it off a VVPS with no problem. A friend of mine uses his exclusively with the ATM.

The heater is a cartridge and ceramic balls and should be replaceable and repairable by an expert. I don't know where @Beefcake@420Eng sources the cartridges but there are a few available if one is determined to get the correct match.

I don't see any reason why 420 eng won't be around for quite a while but I absolutely share you desire to have repairable devices. Ironically I find most commercially produced vapes to have very poor repairability. And those companies have also been prone to disappear suddenly.

Anyway I would love to see a video discussing the internals and assembly of the CL, especially tuning the heater. But I understand that there is only so much time in a day. 🙂

Thanks for the replies!

I skimmed the thread beforehand, but somehow missed the info on the power supply.
Also, I didn't mean to imply that the manufacturer is unreliable or something, but a lot can happen to a small company in 5 or more years, while the device is pretty expensive and I would like to be able to use it for a long time.

got my burl log in. It looks gorgeous. Has a super woody taste in the stem. I keep combusting though. Coarse or fine grind with big, not packing too tight. 6 is too low. 7 I combust. Can't find the right temp to milk my bong up. Also if I change temperature on the dial, how long do I wait til it changes temperature from 6 to 7? Or 7 to 6? 5 minutes? 15?

Really want to figure this thing out haha. Any tips appreciated!

Hello @Pghdrummer93 and welcome to the CL fam. Beautiful score on the Burl log. Adjustments can be made in increments that fall between the actual notches, so start at six and start moving it about an 1/8 of an inch or so and let it sit for 5-10min if it is already on and heatsoked. It may take some time to fine tuned it to your liking but when you do you will be rewarded. Also I like to mention that the glass wpa is a must for me with this vape.

Yeah, the additional distance evens out the roast and creates more 'play' for adjusting by breath.
I have the glass bowl. What screen size do you guys use? Did you find one that fits where the glass flares out? Can't seen to find a screen to fit

One suggestion I might make is to lengthen your draw. I find that ripping it hard will sometimes pull too much heat from the heater, which can make for a less satisfying hit. Especially when it comes to filling a bong. In any case experiment with your draw speed at 6 or lower, maybe even in front of a mirror or your phone.

Thanks! Any tips for the stems? And about how long do they taste woody? Mine is super woody tasting lol
