Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

My one year old Evo unit just stopped gradually working today. On/Off switch stopped working. What initially helped was to reattach cable which gave me one last full hour session. :( After that LED only briefly flashed when turning the device ON - also when I tried to move or invert Evo in different angles it seemed like flashing reacted to it little bit. Anyway this eventually stopped too. Now unit seems dead - no more lights.

Could it just be loose contacts? I would like to open it to check but this unit was purchased from Vapexhale and should still be under warranty.. But I guess warranty does not mean anything anymore?

I am from Europe and this is my second Evo unit. (I still have my first unit from 2017 with broken bamboo and VXHL gave me deal for this newer unit with upgraded electronics).

Should I wait for their alternative repair provider? Or should I just open the unit myself? I was also thinking about hiring local electrical guy to try to fix that unit for me even with spare parts from second unit. All of that would void warranty though

Warranty is already void as the company is no longer. There won't be any alternative repair providers to my knowledge. All us existing owners are left to fend for ourselves.

I have a question for the community. I am a 1st time cloud Evo owner and I just picked up one of the classifieds here. So I know when you first turn it on its got a red light that will turn green Once it is warmed up. So mine is blinking red And green. When I 1st got it out of the Box 2 days ago I warmed it up and loaded an ELB And went to town work worked fine The green light stayed on stayed on and I didn't get a red light. I know that it has an auto timer I believe That times out after one hour. I had had mine on for more than 15 or 20 minutes. Looking for help Please

Thanks

Well, with any luck the red/light flashing will go back to normal after turning off and back on and/or unplugging and plugging back in.

If the red/green flashing lights persists, and it isn't heating anymore, then that's pretty much it. Your unit is dead. Could either be the heater, or the connection to it, or something with the circuit board.

Well holy shit.. I just found out! Sad this is still one of my favorite vapes.. and since repair is impossible now. I'll be keeping the bamboo clean and using it sparingly... mainly for concentrates.. As I said before, unless I'm doing something wrong with my Vrod and Sic Dish... my hits aren't as big and aren't as tasty as the VXL quarts tubes. Maybe I just never mastered it with the Vrod because I very seldom use concentrates to begin with, I dunno.. but with a super slow inhale and a tiny quarter of a rice size of live resin in there, I not only get tastier hits, I get bigger hits.

But I digress, I'm just finding out about this bad news so late. I'm very disappointed by the passing of this start up company.

Unfortunately, warranty coverage is gone with the company.

I opened a couple of OG's years ago to evaluate repairs. While the guts were improved with the EVO and then again not long after its release, I doubt that the architecture was changed (these devices are electronically quite basic). IIRC most issues were with either the heater or the firmware so probably there isn't much diff in what you would see in your units. So with that caveat . . . There is a PCB that lays flat at the bottom with the switch on its end. The heater surrounds the bamboo, they are enclosed in insulation. Other than the heater leads connecting to the board, all the electronics are on the little board. Typically in small electronics devices repairs are made by swapping in the entire sub-assembly and then, depending on cost or availability, maybe the sub-assembly is repaired on the production line. Component repairs/replacements unless very expensive are usually not worth the cost of labor to repair. Products like this are built manually. (I once managed an electronics manufacturer's repair facility.)

The failure symptoms you describe sound like a short and could be a broken lead or solder joint. In the units I examined, the heater leads were quite fragile, and with manual board stuffing, weak joints are always a possibility. The controller is an eprom; replacing it would require having the firmware so if that is the problem, you're probably out of luck. An experienced tech can test the other components and replace if necessary; they are inexpensive and there are probably not more than a half-dozen or so.

It's anyone's guess re a repair facility of some kind. There are always guys who do this kind of thing as a side line, as long as the repairs are cheap and easy. When Hanu folded it fire-sale'd its retail stock. The question is, where are the remaining unused sub-assemblies? I give this happening a 50-50 chance.

If it were me I would pay a guy to crack the casing and take a look inside. If he couldn't identify the problem fairly quickly, I would bag it and buy a Tinymight.

YMMV. HTH.

So I did some more testing yesterday and also switched plug to main Outlet instead of a surge protector. Everything seems to be working as it should :-) It does start to flash after 45 minutes but I that's the auto timer giving notice that it's going to timeout soon.... I just watched Seibo in a YT video talking about it. :-) I'm not smelling the electrical smell I was before. The main concern was inhaling solder or some other toxic chemical. I'm happy with it and when I'm done with my session I'd turn it off just to prevent a overheating...

If there’s any Canadians looking for a Evo Vaporizers.ca has a couple refurbished Evo’s $350-400CDN depending on hydratube selected. They won’t ship to U.S.. Right now there’s a $30 discount with SAVE30 code for over $330 total order.

Very unfortunate. Wish you hung out here more, always good company. Great feedback. I love the EVO for concentrates too! After dialing in the technique / method, its' amazing  with top flavors & zero toastiness. From shatter through to HTFSE, so good.

👍, yup. With any problems, always make sure to first try plugging straight into a wall outlet. Hope the EVO all goes well from there with you and enjoy!

TGIF and hope everyone's enjoying the EVO . Lots going on here and I haven't been posting, as the EVO's been getting me way too high these last few weekends to coherently post  ... greened out multiple evenings :science::science:.

It sucks to see the EVO go. The EVO is my go-to for both flower and dabbing concentrates. I haven't seen a good EVO substitute mentioned yet. I don't think any premium portable vape is as good as a premium desktop vape so that kills a bunch, then the glass isolated air path leaves not much else. This FC thread's been pretty quiet unfortunately for a while, and especially the last few years. I became pretty well known by a few here . Wish the EVO got more attention on FC. I'm on the reliability train with mine at this point (no back up) and we'll see how it goes. The used EVO market is still good and the failure rates still sound overall low. Who here does kief/ hash in their EVO and how is it going?

Vape on and have a great night / weekend.

:peace: :leaf:

This is really sad news. I ve been using the Evo/cloud since the early days, nearly every day. This is such a good design, a great vaporizer. I am honestly afraid to use mine too often in fear of my dear cloud Evo expiring. Can anything else compare?

This really hard news to take, I just found out by looking at their website.

I've purchased a hydrafoot (base, stand) and ELB's from Vgoodiez, all good. The site has a search tool, but it can take a few different query terms to find parts. They still have the tree HT that Hanu was selling of recent; I bought one from Hanu and it performs nicely.
