Herb Grinders

Thanks for adding to the confusion @oldfool

No, really, thank you, both look like good options too  something else to consider!

@GoldenBud - yes, seems very cool huh... almost too good to be true...

That colour loss is of vague concern though, I mean what is the colour made of, am I inhaling it? is it safe? Am I a princess? :hmm:

I would like an all stainless - I do like a lot of stainless steel in my life apparently and it is for home use, I am not going to be crying it around. The Flower Mill has an all stainless interior, that does really appeal!

If you can afford it go with Herb Ripper or the other SS316 in the market yeah.... PUCC is basically a perfect buy if you don't have a good salary or so? Students etc
I don't believe that 0.001% percent of any coloring from the grinder is hamrful for me, but I also still don't have a proper salary hehe

I mean... a grinder for 10yrs+? why not.... give it a try....

Yeah, I will always either buy cheap for something I am not sure I need or if I am a bit strapped for cash, or, go all out, save up and get something that will last a lifetime.

Lots of food for thought... thank you!

Agree. The Lift Innovation grinder has stainless blade and sifting plate.
I also picked up an SLX, if you want to spend a little less.
Works great, the ceramic coating really seems to do it's job.
With a nonstick coating applied at the molecular level...
  • The proprietary ceramic coating on all surfaces inside and out means no more sticking, no more grinding to a halt
  • 100% non-toxic, FDA-approved ceramic coating - ZERO Teflon® or PTFE

Cool - thanks - also looking amazing - I am totally spoiled for choice (literally)

Coatings and the like are less attractive. I don't mind the amount of cash to be honest, I can just save up a bit... I am much more interested in getting something I am going to be happy with for pure time.

Anyone any thoughts on the grind required for vaping with a Dynavap?

As any vaporizer, fine for faster extraction and coarser for slower (keeping lower terps longer in the middle)
I always go for the finest..

Does anyone here have tried these grinder ?

If at 500€ it doesn't even grind well...

Of course, that makes sense!

Le Flâneur is beautiful, but... nope! £100 is more than enough to be spending on a grinder! I don't care how good it is

Good find @R1ng0 - That AliExpress grinder is over half a kilo  100% Professor Plum in the Study with the SS Grinder territory!!!

I wouldn't suggest buying anything from AliExpress without reviews
this look better also tested by one of reviewers to be 306g weighted

edit: probably you edited before i did 👽

I am considering a new grinder, I have never owned a premium model, always got by with cheap and cheerful, but now I am really getting into the Dynavap (half chamber with ground flower) I would like to see how much difference an appropriate grind would make. At the moment I am using a 2 piece SC no-plastic thingy, it's alright!

Is the upgrade worth it? Is it all just hype?

Not hype, going to be worlds better than what you were using, you are leapfrogging to top of the line innovative grinders as well!

options are:

BCG: Unavailable at the moment, but I can wait - anyone know of any UK stockists other than Vapefiend?

Not unavailable, they were always made to order, you purchase and then they add you to the queue to build your grinder, then it ships within 7 to 10 weeks basically...

You get a gorgeous piece, in wide variety of lovely colors, very high grade aluminum, choice of grinding plates, and no threading with the magnets... However as I always say here, hands down number one feature of the BCG, is the anti-locking never jamming design, with special teeth in the sides of the lid and some play between the plates...

BCG is my overall favorite, why I have two regular size and one large, I like the control the traditional grinder style offers, and this is the best traditional grinder design I've ever used (had SCS SLX GR8R before)

Flower Mill: Seems an awful lot of money, sure it's justified, but damn - but hey, if it is worth it and will last forever then so be it - available!

Pretty sure FM offers an FC discount, 10% maybe? I know they do regular sales as well if you keep an eye out... They are very active in their thread over here! The mill is really like nothing else, not a typical grinder, more similar to the lift in that sense, and yeah the inside all the parts that matter are stainless steel with the premium model, and with the various plate size options it can be an extremely versatile tool!

The FM is the quickest and easiest way to grind your herbs, no matter how moist dense sticky, takes minimal effort every time

Pucc: Seems like a very reasonably priced alternative no-thread grinder - available!

any other contenders?

Pucc does seem like a very nice budget option, it gets you no threading and a nice design, however the quality of aluminum is not as high as the BCG and it does not have the anti-locking never jamming design I was describing that is my favorite thing about the BCG probably...

That's really helpful @Shit Snacks

Thank you!

'availability' - I just mean here in the UK - I should have made that clearer.

I've been doing some experimenting and I definitely want to get down to a pretty fine grind.

Yeah but they do ship to the UK, just the same as they ship anywhere else, they are located in Canada, and BCG are always made to order, but I suppose there could be additional customs fees involved...

Using BCG upside down you can get the grind as fine as you like, that's why you can just get like the medium plate for ultimate versatility pretty much...

If you get the FM you will want to get the full plate kit so you can grind as fine as possible, the standard plate is a bit coarse...

Also very useful to know, thank you again - yes the flower mill expansion pack does seem pretty essential.

I am familiar with importing things (electronics / parts mostly) there is VAT @ 20%, Import Duty @ ~4% applied to the cost of the item and the shipping cost, and usually a delivery service handing fee ~£12 on an item of that value. For a personal import this can get expensive, as a retailer buying in bulk and presumably getting them at trade price, even though the taxes and fees are still payable, they work out much more favourably and also gives a retailer a chance to make a small profit too. I am not bothered about the colours, I like the black a lot, so if I decide BCG - I will just wait until Vapefiend have them back in stock - apparently they are due any time... ??

You make a good case for the BCG actually, I like the simplicity and that it is literally a 'grinder for life', sounds like there is more of an art to the BCG over the FM perhaps? I like that kind of thing 🤓

Oh I had no idea vape fiend ever had stock to sell, cool! I bet they move fast though...

Yeah the FM feels a bit more like a tool, it is also a very nice design though and pretty, but it is tough for any of these to compete with the beauty of a BCG!

Supposedly BCG are working on a stainless steel version by the way, we're not sure exactly what it will be like or when it will be released however... Perhaps this fall??

But yeah a regular BCG with just medium plate (or just fine plate even) bought during one of their many sales for 10% off, is $75 shipped with the cheapest shipping option to the US... So yes that is a pretty incredible value on a grinder for life!

Oh.... Right! A SS BCG would instantly go to the top of my desire list... I am happy to wait a few months that sounds ideal!!

This changes things, - so thank you again!!

This is very very helpful!!:tup:

Yeah we actually have a dedicated thread for the brilliant cut grinder, and one for the flower mill, a lot more info on both over there!

We don't know if the steel BCG is going to be completely steel or what, we've heard that it will be 2.5 inches diameter, between the two current sizes available, and this fall as an estimate though that could mean when pre-orders open up...

And of course, steel usually means more expensive!

Oh cheers, yeah - I have come across them in searches, and read bits of both, but still piecing things together, there's a lot to take in.

Always nice to have something to look forward to, the truth is that in all the grinders I have seen, and they are all really amazing, I didn't get that sure feeling, yes that's the one for me yet. I'm in no rush, happy to see what happens over the coming months.

I just found a really old metal 'easy leaf' grinder I haven't seen/used in quite some time... cleaned it all up and it's doing a pretty nice fine grind - it's a little bit clanky but it's doing a better job than the SC, this could keep me going for a while.

This is all just my :2c: for whatever it's worth.

For me, the only grinders I would consider are the BCG (which I have & :luv:) or the ("rejected," i.e. "discounted") Lift. The Flowermill design intrigues me, but I'm happy with a traditional grinder & I don't have gas (grinder acquisition syndrome). I believe eventually GFL will come out with a grinder having stainless plates, but until then I wouldn't go with one of the current SS grinders on the market as the BCG's even grind consistency, and it's ease of use & cleaning & it's comfortable weight is perfect to/for me. What I do find is that the BCG seems to be the vape reviewers' grinder of choice; even the Vape Critic/Bud chooses it.

You might find these of interest in making a decision:

The boys having fun with the BCG @2:16:

Troy used the Santa Cruz for years & was steadfast in his love for it ... until he was introduced to the BCG. I wasn't surprised when it dethroned the SC. This is what Troy said in 8/2020:

"Brilliant is my favorite grinder and what I consider to be the best in the biz.

The Santa Cruz has a nicer grind consistency, and is considerably nicer than pretty much every other grinder out there."

The SC grinding plate produces a finer grind than the BCG fine plate which some love, but (the SC) is not ultra fine as others, some of which, imo, are just dust.

I'm noticing that members, & even Troy, are starting to experiment with a coarse(r) grind & liking it. I said that a coarse grind was my fave almost 2 years ago when a coarse grind wasn't in vogue.

The reason the Lift peaks my interest is because .... supposedly ... the coarse plate produces small nugs.

Anyway, there are plenty of grinder vids on you tube & the FC grinder threads themselves.

For me, if you are thinking of a grinder combo (tho yes not cheap) then Brilliant Cut and Flower Mill Premium (with plates pack) are REALLY tough to beat. Lots of versatility, each with their own strengths. But both just a lovely pleasure to use in operation. Just a tactile wow for the user experience.

Well said, I have also settled on these. I'm a BCG fanboy with a regular and large and most likely an SS when/if it comes out. But the Flower Mill is an excellent counterpart and has exceeded my expectations. I use it regularly alongside my BCGs.

I was torn between these two as well. Ultimately, I went for the BCG bc I heard it offers a slightly more consistent grind (vs FM’s stainless plates and milling action).

Anyway, I hadn’t spent enough time on the boards here to know that the correct answer to every ‘this or that’ question is actually ‘and.’

I have never seen a BCG in stock at Vapefiend so I decided to order one straight from GFL to Europe.
As much as I like it, for some reason I still prefer the SCS.
