Ed's WoodScents Log Vape - Ed's TnT

Hey guys, I received my woodscent a week ago.
I mostly used hash with it as I didn't have access to flower.
I use a vvps with it and I vaporize hash through water.
After trying a few different voltages I've settled at 10.8 for hash to rip a bowl in one (long) go.
At first I was impressed by the amount of vapor produced (I had vaporized hash before with vapcaps and IH) but now after one week I get similar results in terms of effects as if I was combusting hash through water without the disgusting taste and the harshness, pretty amazing.

Now I have access to flower but I've never been a big fan of smoking weed through water (probably because I started using a bong with hash and the effects are instantaneous)
Any tips for using the WS with weed? Preferred settings / voltages? (I have the new heater).

Can you use the WS for "long" sessions if you keep temps low?

Thanks!

Oh also regarding the tips, my 2020 M tip doesn't fit, it's a bit too thick, but my brother's 2020 M fits

PS: will post pictures a bit later

@JEMSKU I don't have an IH to compare, but I would think you could achieve similar results--albeit with a bit more time--by just setting the WS on the tip for a few minutes before taking your hit. I think I saw it on some older video from Troy/420Vapezone. I've been just leaving the heater on the tip for a minute or two and it gets a very even and consistent avb/extraction like you're demoing in those photos :)
Here is a comparison photo of a heat-soaked load (top) vs a capped IH/WS combo hit (bottom). Heat soaking is not as effective but it does make a difference, I've experimented with it in the past. And yes, the IH speeds up the process considerably!

Yes, temp stepping can extend the session. I ran the WS out of a whip rig in hookah style for a while, but even with that method I didn't feel sessions lasted as long as I'd like, and I find the load size to be more appropriate for a fast extraction.

Happy 4/20 all!

Happy 4/20 all! I hate been loving my Woodscents for the last four months. It’s definitely changed the way I’ve consumed medication for the better. Thinking of picking up a second unit soon.

Weird question though, my heater core (not sure if that’s what it’s called) is turning purple/blue. Is this normal? Is anyone else’s heater turning purple or blue? Thank you!

Oh I see, I'd like to try out a whip. Did you find a more suitable vape for longer sessions?

I believe it's simply titanium changing color from the heat which is normal. Is the plate inside changing color as well? I was thinking about maybe anodizing mine but if heat changes color it's fine too!

Happy 420 to you guys! Still haven't posted pictures, WS + hash = stuck in the couch all day

PS: received my new scale with 0.001g precision, with hemp fiber on top of the grid I put around 0.05g of hash so the chamber is filled but the hash doesn't touch the grid of the WS.
With my bubbler I need to inhale for a good minute to finish the bowl. So much vapor from hash!

I was thinking that but I’ve never seen or heard anyone else’s heater turning colours.

Has anyone else’s heater changed colours? Even slightly?

On what voltage / number on the dial du you run your unit? Do you leave it on all day? I only had mine for a week, no change in color for now

I leave it on for about 10 - 14 hours a day. I set it at dial 7 - 8. I will turn down the heat or disconnect it when not in use for hours. I hope you are enjoying your Woodscents, @Suki!

Yes, my VVPS stays at 13+ volts on the old heater and that's pretty much what mine looks like.

The Silver Surfer Vape can do the job, but I went back to the woodscents because of the better extraction of small loads. Sessions are nice once in a while but I tend towards fast and thorough extraction. I think it may be making an appearance tonight once I'm off work though :smug:

Actually probably my favourite session vape is my bronze vapor genie Sherlock :sherlock:

Well it seems to be normal for titanium, I heard people saying the same with FlowerPot for example.
Yes I really love mine, couldn't try too much with flower because it is expensive and goes away quickly, but I was already pleased with my M and induction heater. But yeah, for hash through water the WS is amazing, very small loads but a lot of vapor and amazing effects! I think I'll need a T break when I go back to flower!

Also keep in mind I'm still combusting, I plan on stopping soon since I've finally found what I need to stop. I smoke joints as a habit with my siblings but I get way higher from WS + bubbler!

My siblings who are also heavy smokers started hitting the WS through water more and more since I received it

HI everyone. Super excited as I've received my first WS ever (African Blackwood beauty). I have plenty of experience with log vapes (been using HIs and UDs for years now, so this is not much different, and its working fine right out of the box. I have some questions just on the power supply side of this at the moment.

First off, does anyone know if it is ok to use the WS WITHOUT the rotary dial to control voltage (i.e. plug the adapter directly into the WS)? If so, what voltage (i.e. temp) does it correspond to when not using the rotary dial?

Secondly, does anyone know if we can use the same 12V adapter that is used with the HI and/or UD for the WS as well? I compared the 2 adapters and took pics. I move my devices from room to room a lot, but have a bunch of the adapters for the UD/HI already. Can I safely use these with the WS without damaging it?

EDs adapter for the WS Inputs 100-240V / 0.5A; Outputs 12V / 1.0A

The adapters for the HI and/or UD Inputs 100-240V / 0.3A; Outputs 12V / 2.0A

Hey man congrats on your WS!

Yes you can use without the dial. It was set the set as 10 on the dial which is 12.2V

Not sure about that 12V 2A adapter tho... I have a vvps 3-24V 2A, not sure if it's at 2A at all voltages or if it changes with the voltage.

Meant to say "Yes you can use it without the dial. It will be set as 10 on the dial which is 12.2V" can no longer edit. I shouldn't post when I can barely open my eyes anymore :spliff:

Thanks Suki. I sent an email to Ed, and he got back to me as well. He responded as you did, saying it's ok to run without the rotary dial, but it will be like it's on its top heat setting so it will be very hot.

So after a little more testing of my Blackwood WS, I'm trying to troubleshoot if anything is wrong because it seems to run EXTREMELY HOT. The first day I was using it with PPW rotary dial around 5-6 and it combusted once. I thought that temp was too high obviously, so when I was using it the next day, I just clicked the dial on but left it at the lowest setting (with the PPW rotary dial around 1-2). But it was still really HOT and able to scorch material pretty easily.

A question for other users of the WS - Should it be running this hot at even the lowest temp setting? Does this seem normal to other users?

Maybe there is a chance the rotary PPW is not working properly? I also have a voltage controller that I got along with one of my Heat Island logs. Should I try using that voltage controller to see if I can successfully get the Blackwood WS to get to a lower more comfortable temp? What would be a good voltage to shoot for?

@Hagbard Celine I know the newer heaters run a bit hotter, but combustion at level 5-6 on the dial seems off.

That said, I haven't used the dial since I got a VVPS. If you have one that is compatible (the one I got from Ed is 3-24v-2a) definitely try it, much more precise than the dial. Try starting at 10v or something like that. You shouldn't be close to combustion down there. Definitely don't go over 14v, as it can ruin the heater. Ed recommends leaving it at 12v or less for extended periods.

@Hagbard Celine i have Ed’s stock psu and dimmer switch. I’ve also got the newer, hotter core and I don’t combust anywhere near that low. Things get pretty carbon black at 10 for me (following the manual where 10 is the wide part of the sweep at the dash before the number) and it goes to 10.5–not quite 11 😭—so it certainly seems odd that you’re combusting so low.

I don’t know as much about electricity as I should. @LesPlenty recommended a few to me that were also 3-24v 2a, so I would think your ud psu would be fine and a good way to test this as others suggested.

Any Vvps with enough volts will power the log.
The units will take what amperage it needs I find them on Amazon for around $20.

I have the 2a 3-23V (same as ED is selling I believe) I also have the new heater, when I tried weed I wasn't combusting at 11.5V (very close to 10 on dial) I prefer lower (between 10.5 and 10.8 for hash) but wanted to see how hot I could go with it. You shouldn't be combusting at 5-6 something is wrong there, maybe faulty dial as you said

Thanks everyone. I did contact Ed and he is taking care of the issue with my new WS which was running hot (shout out to Ed!). I did some testing and I'm pretty confident the problem is with a faulty rotary temp controller.

Can anyone send me a link to a good VVPS on Amazon that functions well with the WS? I'd like to take a look at those.
Thanks again all

This is the exact model that I received when I ordered directly from Ed.

I also want to share with everyone who has a Dynavap tip that does not fit the WS heater core...

I got a new Dynavap Vong recently, and unfortunately the tip did not quite fit on the new WS I got from Ed (the tip on the free '20 M that came with the Vong DID fit, so that was cool). Anyway after thinking for a couple of days of a way to widen the Vong tip, I thought I would check out my Dremel tool - Are any of you familiar with these? It's basically a hand-held 'drill-like' rotary tool that you can put various spinning or oscillating attachments onto. I've found that it can be useful for a whole lot of odd and unpredictable jobs. And I was incredibly lucky in this instance, because I just happened to have the exact right sized sanding drum to attach to the tool.

I just kept it on the lowest 2 or 3 speed settings. I worked very slowly, and it still only took about 5-10 minutes start to finish.

Nice tip man! I got the new Vong and it doesn't fit either, I'll try that. My 2020 M doesn't fit either but my brother's 2020 M fits. About 50% of my tips fit. But it's not really an issue, as long as I have a few tips to be able to rotate for cleaning I'm good!

Just took out my tips out of two of my woodscents stems and having a heck of a time getting them back in. Destroyed some of the o-rings.

Are there any tricks for getting a tip into a Ed's Stem?

I don’t need to do anything special for the glass or wooden stem he included, but the tips are sometimes a tight fit into the wpa. I use a bit of the bab to lubricate the o rings before inserting the tip.

Lots of unintended innuendo, but the gist of it is don’t go in dry.
