Phattpiggies Wood Shed

@phattpiggie are the plastic stems safe to vaporise through? They look awesome.
the stems are not in the vapor path so they should be safe IMO. In fact I ordered an acrylic stem from Phattpiggie.

Also, do your stems, like the Blackwood and aluminium one I like, fit inside the dynastash?
the longer stems are, I believe around 4" long. They will not fit into a Dynastash. However, he does make bodies and stems that fit the Dynavap condensers and therefore will fit either the Dynastash or Dynastash XL. if you order one of these make sure to let him know that they need to fit a stash so that the width does not exceed 14mm, the max diameter for a stash.

Also, why don't you use a condenser inside your stems? What is the purpose of a condenser?
all the stems have condensers. The longer stems have a built in condenser and the others fit onto a Dynavap condenser.

The condenser is the dedicated airpath. No vapor touches the wood or acrylic stems and only the condenser needs to be cleaned.

Here is a standard length stem and it fits onto an XL Vapcap condenser.

Here is a condenser that will be built into a longer stem.

Thanks @Squiby

@GreenHopper 14mm, perhaps @M0J0 could have a measure of his XL parts for you??

@VanCough a couple more pictures to explain the segmented stems a little better.

Here's how the Indian summer started out. The 14mm, top pieces, has the thread directly cut into the acrylic.

Here's how the 14mm's condenser looks when all finished.

They all have a threaded condenser which screws into the 'hot end' and the MP, sandwiching the plastic or woods between them, a small amount of a PVA glue is used at the wood/plastic joints and on the outer surface of the SS.

All the ones I've done so far are too long for the DV stashes and tubes, I can make them to any size but the shorter lengths need a bit of looking at to get a good balance.

I've bought the materials to make a couple of custom tubes but it's finding the time to make the first one and then we'll see how they are received by you good people.

All I can say for now is they are not your regular plastic tubes.

Quick Edit. Look what turned up just this minute.
Cheap as you like male glass and some 4mm SS so I can fit full length condensers to everything.
More news on that later.

Hey Phatts, was wondering if you'd be able to fashion a regular stem with the same aesthetic as the stem above where you show how the mouthpiece and tip thread but with an added/additional 18mm joint that threads/slots into/seals with the existing mouthpiece?

I hate the weight of gongs and the thickness when I'm spinning and it kinda throws off my technique. :horse:

@lemmeadem I think I follow you.

How about a separate wong with a smaller hole to accept the stem.

The threads I use are very fine, if you cross threaded a MP or wong it would be ruined so better to go for a drop in option.

That sounds about fantastic. :p As long as the seal is tight that could be the bees! Mind if we take this chat into PM?

I'll be letting you all know how this list business is going to work in the next few days, I've had a lot of conversations happening and I'm going to have to ask people for some final decisions when their time comes.

A couple of pieces may take a bit longer to make but the challenge to pull them off should be fun.

Not everything will be VC as I've a few other ideas that need trying out.

@Ruta has agreed to step in and help when he gets time. We've worked well together in the past and it's always good to be handed a fresh bowl while you're busy.

Had a friend of 30 years round today and I've lent him a VC with a new style condenser. If the idea works I will be keeping slim stem and MP's and cleaning will be better.

The SS reduces to 3.4mm and I've got some bamboo skewers which fit nicely for pushing out the reclaim.
DsNJSVv.jpg

Won't know how much of a pain the internal step will be until it's been trialed, the thinner tube led me to push this 'Foot Dog' together and I'll give it a whirl tomorrow for shits and giggles. The 4mm SS should also mean the long Padauk style can have a full length condenser.

I posted about this in the VC thread but waited until I'd got a couple of things done and had a bit of feedback on how I'm going to organise the next round of orders.

150mm stem with a full length condenser.
The SS is 4mm with a 0.3mm wall, it does not come out but it will clean better than the all wood vapor path.
No idea on the wood species and other shapes are on the cards.

Another 62mm piece this time I've tried out the condenser idea, no reclaim messing up the wood.

NEW LIST INFO.

Not everything I'll be doing this time is VC related and a couple of things will need more work than others, research and trial of ideas.
Some things haven't even landed at my door yet and they'll be dealt with as and when.

Please hang in there and be patient, I am not giving any one estimated times as I have no idea what's coming.
We'll keep good communications going on between us so everyone is well informed as to how their order progresses.

As you've all seen if I've got an itch it gets scratched and I show you all what's caught my attention.
This has lead to a bit of chopping, changing or adding to orders, which is fair enough and I have been happy to accommodate.

It's also lead to a bit of a delay in the proceedings and this time around I will have to ask people to have some kind of final decision(s). Means I can plan ahead a little and try and keep some flow to the whole thing.

If you want anything other than the ideas I've tried out then the more info the better, fotos, links, CAD and hand drawn sketches are all very much welcomed.

These two places have a good selection of woods, etc and I'll use them first for any materials.

More than happy to try and source anything elsewhere if necessary.

Your place on the next list is all dependent on when we first started our conversation.

I will 'leave' all conversations in my inbox, this clears everything on my side.
Your inbox will still show the conversation we've had.

If you then get back to me using the original, not new, conversation the whole thing will open again.
It's important to use the original as the date it started will relate to your placing.

Please let me know if you've any thoughts on the matter.

I will let you know when I intend on setting the ball rolling so save any messages until then and please have a think as to what you'd like.
I've got screenshots as a backup.

I'll link this post as many times as possible before hand.

That beauty is for you @Kasish, I'll be in touch.

Edit.
Forgot to say I've been in contact with a guy who dyes and stabilises wood for box mods, he seemed keen to try out a few pen blanks for me and if I can get the Applewood cut up he'll process it.
Probably still split but at least it will be stable enough to use. I've got a nice cherry burr that may be sent to him as well.

I just got a Blackwood Twist from @phattpiggie and the DynaVap crew. It's such an amazing piece, it's so tactile to use, spinning it is addictive and hypnotic. For this picture I tried to highlight the depth of the twists:

YG4Xb32.jpg

The finish is also worth noting. It's luxuriously smooth, like a fine leather. This picture is my best attempt to capture that texture:

This piece is so complex, even two pictures isn't enough to do it justice. It's really something special, thanks so much @phattpiggie!

I'm stuck on this 150mm stem you made . So dope !! I will be waiting patiently for your word and my place in line on the list . As I said before , I would like this in kingwood as long as it is doable in that wood . I would also be open to you just letting loose and not necessarily making it exactly the same . I'm a fan of having a phatpiggie original. I just love the longer stems .
I'm guessing from your post that you are probably taking a much needed break , but I hope that won't stop you from posting pics . I've actually been looking at pen lathes recently as I'm inspired by your work .

I seem to have had this conversation with a couple of people, if you've got the mind set to be creative and have the confidence to get stuck in then go for it.

@needalift I'm tying up a few non vape related jobs which have caused me a bit of grief, my normal job requires decisions to be made and they have to be rigidly stuck to. This all adds to the time frame to complete the work.
Kingwood should be fine.

Pen lathe is an excellent intro into the world of wood turning and ideal for doing stems on.
Be careful and enjoy it is all I can say.
If you take to it then it won't be long before you'll be saying 'Wow I made that'
Get stuck in people. I love seeing how other peoples see the VC.

Had @Ruta round for a quick social, but managed to get another 62mm Twist done.
This time it's Brazilian Tulipwood, some great colors going on, pinks fading thru to purple.

Sorry folks I posted the same picture twice.
prI1Xxa.jpg

After a lot of thought I've decided maybe VC stems just don't have the mass appeal I was hoping for and the old timers at the local Woodturning Show have got it right.

Perhaps I should just follow the herd and stick with the good old tried and tested ideas they all seem to be turning.
After all they know best.

@Copacetic :lol:
Hope the WS arrives at yours soon, can't wait to hear your thoughts.

@Mr. Me2 I had a chat with @RastaVapa a while ago about narrow parting off tools and showed him a couple I've made, this one was used to get the thin cuts in the Dipper and to put the detail on this little finial which finishes the lid off for my Sapele log.

@ArthurJ I've looked at Baseball Bat pens in the past, not popular over here, but I could turn one and perhaps we could get @VapCap to do some engraving work on it.
