Discontinued The Grasshopper

Yeah, so that's the thing. Considering I could still feel the affects of the GH vapor on my tongue 48 hours after a light session on level three leads me to believe we either had very different experiences or have very different mouths.

I did not pick up my GH and get there, I've had to work on technique quite a bit. Its opposite to my FF2 experience where I picked it up and was at home. A lot of people struggle with technique on that device. My only thought is that we all have different intuitions and therefore very different experiences.

Since you are clearly quite sensitive to heat, why not open the sides of your mouth a bit to draw in a mix of cool fresh air? This is exactly how I used to smoke J's in the past.

YES! DO IT! The grasshopper team really wants folks to have the best possible device in their hands so don't be bashful and don't give up on the Grasshopper, send it in if its not working properly. I can totally see how this vape isn't for some people but I wonder how many people who are dissatisfied simply have a faulty unit and therefore haven't really experienced the grasshopper yet...

Herein lies the problem. These units seem to be very inconsistent from unit to unit, and even the same unit day to day. When I hear people like @Kermitt and @VimFuego talking about replacement back ends still not working and them acknowledging it, it's troublesome.

A lifetime warranty isn't worth much if you rack up large postal bills shipping it back multiple times for a single issue. Especially when these are new, out of the box units.

All that said, I'm excited to get mine and hoping I get some good ones

4 days in and so far i absolutely love this thing. the only negative thing i can say about this device is that it is nearly impossible to adjust the temp control if you want to vape in the dark or low light situations. i wish there were little grooves where the temp control would slip into place so at least i have an idea of where i'm at. other than that, it gets a top notch rating from me.

also i just want to thank everyone here for all the useful information that you have provided me with as i waited for my hopper to arrive. it was all smooth sailing when i got it, but i was prepared and knew what to do if any problems were to arise thanks to you guys.

4. It doesn't combust! Not with the driest of flowers packed as full and tightly into the bowl as possible run at max temp for a long, big rip through a bubbler!
id be careful about saying this one. i trusted it too much and it combusted on me at the wrong time at the wrong place (luckily i didnt get in trouble because i choked it down for as long as i could, but the smell was definitely there and a stream of smoke coming out of the "pen" end). so i disagree w #4. (
)

also for people who find it too hot, instead of taking 1 long puff and clicking it off, take shorter "pulse puffs" while keeping it on until you are satisfied. we have been trained to take that long puff but its not necessary for the gh. on the 1st puff, the first 10 sec or so is priming and getting some low level terps...then after this delay comes the vapors. but if you pulse puff, then the first few rips will be the priming and then you can pulse a good 3 puffs before turning it off and getting the effect of the 1 long old school puff. dunno if im making any sense here, but since this is convection, the pause between pulse puffs doesnt lose you anything...

I was thinking about the Mighty, but I would like to change the batteries myself. The Crafty with a changeable battery would be nice.
But after GH and FF2, the next step maybe the Mighty.

Don't forget about the Milaana/Zion.

Ok back on topic. I can't wait for the newsletter. Also, interested to see how much better the units are getting.

when not at home using a bubbler (dry) my prefered methode using my gh (I have to find a sturdy, small bubbler option for portable use)... I am exactly using this technique and it really helps/works...

I also should try the crafty cu (but was to lazy cleaning it)...

also the lotus stem works realmy good cooling the vapor when on the go...

I hope ghl will also find ways for cooling the vapor, when they have more time... this should be do able for them... i also would not mind when it would not look like a pen front end... or would be a longer mouthpiece... but in my opinion they could find a way not changing the form factor and look of the now used mouthpiece... if they where able to build such a heater... but they need more time and they did not had this time, but when they shipped all outstanding orders and have pinned down the production of them so there is no waiting time, they will have this time... and I would also pay for this mouthpiece and as far as the gh is modular you can screw this new mouthpiece on your gh body easily... I believe this will happen if they have time... hope they will read this...

this vape is really great if it is working properly and is really a game changer...

as stated before I like to vape through a bubbler dry also with all my other vapes (my prefered methode of vaping), because thats the way for me for really big clouds...

So as I posted earlier my 2 perfectly working SS hoppers started performing poorly, draining full batts almost immediately and getting super hot after cleaning the mouthpieces for the first time..I tried all the troubleshooting stuff here and some did help. But for 2 days neither were working like normal...But since this morning I have had 3 loads in each hopper start working perf with nice dark abv and huge clouds...just like before...the only difference...and this comes contrary to what a few of you have posted (whom I respect and trust for the record:rockon:)...I packed the effers tight! Not too much to restrict airflow completely or as much as say the pax but def more than I was used too with the hopper. Medium grind. I got used to the long semi hard pulls and man...back to solid cloud production getting dark brown abv in 4-5 hits. And medicated...deeply:freak:. Also the back end was not even warm...although the mouthpiece was scorching at one point. Cools quickly though. This overpacking helped with both hoppers...so far...hopefully my post didn't jinx it. Love this thing just wish it wasn't so finnacky..:hmm:

Does anyone have a thread gauge set that can tell me how many threads per inch the hopper uses for the back end?

My material gets darker with more in the chamber. Is everybody finding this too?
I generally do. Though the stuff I picked up from a horticulturist by trade gives off heaps of vapour but doesn't go dark. A few other strains I have at the moment can get almost black, it's faster to do this with more in the chamber, but even with a small amount it will change colour massively.
I don't really know why there is such a difference, it could be down to curing or the drying process. No idea.

I stayed at my mates place when I was travelling around scoring copious amounts of nug, and I noticed how much he had loaded into the hopper - it was so full it took a bit of effort to get it all out, and it was all a fairly consistent brown/black. It gave off a lot of cloudy hits too.

I think you definitely got more vapour with more in the chamber, but hard to say if this means the darkest ABV or not. It depends on how much any particular chamber gets used.

Increased thermal mass must aid in the extraction though, so colour change happens faster. If only a small amount is used you get whispier hits but not necessarily less thorough, but less rapid extraction.

I ordered batteries only from GHL and I'm wondering if they will ship. Says on the page orders will ship immediately but also Backordered til September. I don't want to wait that long for spares :(

Im on the same boat as you :/ Ordered some last week and haven't gotten any updates on them. I emailed support Monday and still haven't heard anything.

Drop them an email giving them the order number and that its batteries only. Seems that battery only orders don't get immediately picked up to come out of the whole vaporizer order queue and if you drop Caroline a note that will make it happen. Or it did for me.

Thanks

If I wanna pack the hopper less often when I'm out and about then should I pack it down full? Will there be more hits in that or will it just get clogged or have weaker hits because lac of airflow? Sometimes when I'm out I don't wanna repack in public and I know when I take this thing skiing I'm gonna want to have to repack it less often for sure. I know the taste won't be good but I just want several big potent hits without having to repack as much.

Pack it full and then some.
The only downside is flavour, the hits will be thick and strong, restriction is bearable

Man I didn't know this! I'm always packing it very loosely but full or 3/4 full. Flavor is great on first hit or 2 and I'll get maybe 5 solid rips total about. I thought packing the chamber completely full doesn't work well?

I only recommend packing smaller amounts for flavour and to avoid chewing through material by boosting tolerance.
The hits it gives off when fully loaded are crazy strong

And yet, if you go back one page in this thread you'll find folks saying that the secret to hopping success is to use SMALL amounts. Is it that the hopper is so versatile that it can accommodate all styles of use?

I don't have one of my own yet, so I can't offer my own input, but it sure seems like the hopper's official motto should be "YMMV". Or maybe "Your mileage can vary however you want it to."

There are a lot of variables at work. How strong is the bud, how much is being used, how fine is it ground (whats the exposed surface area), what is the ambient temperature, how long are you drawing for, how fast are you drawing, how charged is the battery, is the device pre-heated, how clean are the contacts, how clean is the mouthpiece.
There's a lot to play around with, and from what I can tell you get good results no matter what. But to get the perfect hit, there's quite a bit to consider.

I think the benefit of small chambers is the ease at which dosage can be managed. It keeps tolerance down which means any vapour is going to be more effective.

I got so ripped last night off 5 chambers or so I was high all of today.

Do a trial run first. It's becoming clear to me that we may all have very different behaving devices (even though I have two units of different materials from different sources that are virtually indistinguishable.) My hard palate is fucked like combustion this morning. I don't believe my flesh burns at a different temp than other people's flesh. This is a very frustrating vape.

Case in point, based on what @MoltenTiger is saying, he's not even using the same type of vape that I am. If he were offering me that advice, I'd laugh thinking he was just fucking with me. No joke. He definitely seems like a cool guy, so its not a knock at him, just from my perspective, he is talking crazy. Of course, he is probably a very different vape enthusiast than I am. Yesterday he got ripped off 5, full I assume, chambers. That is a shitload of weed for me. You have to ask if you are getting advice from someone that matches your usage. Some people may have stopped smoking 5 joints a day one month ago when their hopper arrived. Some people may have been using the most gentle convection vape there is for the last 10 years, who knows?

edit: I just want to point out that my hoppers do not have any of the tell-tale signs of malfunctioning. The only weird light stuff that happens is my Ti sometimes flashes red when I screw on the back end after a battery swap. Nothing gets hot. In fact, I have basically the same experience with or without the silicone tip. As soon as I hook this thing up to the stupid decanter thing, I'm blowing massive comfortable clouds.

I also don't want to disparage any advice being given. Everyone is being very helpful and I am very grateful. I just highly recommend you do you own experimenting in a controlled way and it's absolutely a good idea to start with a pinch and increase from there, comfort allowing. :peace:

6 days into G-hopping and so far, flawless. zero heat issues, back or front end, have not used the rubber sheath once, couldn't be more happy with performance = well worth the wait!:) (knock on wood!!!)

Technique:
Medium to fine grind, fluff pack half to 3/4 full and for me, the sweet spot is 3.8ish temp. 10-15 second inhale, click the hopper off while clearing the chamber for an additional couple of seconds. Pause for 30 seconds, repeat. I have certainly tried max temp which is definitely hotter but not too hot to inhale but the vape is noticeably hotter and begins to taste closer to the taste of combustion while not actually combusting. Depending on length/strength of inhale, I get about 4-7 legit hits per load, 3+ loads per battery. I will agree with others that state the 1st hit will typically be a priming hit with less vapor output but a decent taste. I have not tried t he GH thru a glass piece or a water tool yet, strictly native sans rubber condom.

Overall assessment:
As stated above, couldn't be hoppier with the performance. Don't think this was created as a session vape to pass back and forth non stop so I didn't expect that to be where it shines. For me, 1 man sesh, at home or in the wild, hard to beat the GH. Heat up time, stealth factor, low maintenance is what I was expecting and hopping for, and that is what the GH delivered. A few rips leaves me perfectly medicated, taste is great and most importantly not mentioned yet, VERY efficient. Evenly golden brown ABV. Slim to no waste!

Only peeve so far for me is the battery life but as mentioned by others, the batteries are small so again, expectations weren't too high for me in this regard. I have 4 batteries so no issues there but do wish they lasted longer.

Lastly, one interesting observation that I have not seen mentioned here yet is that I randomly sat my GH down in a metal dish/bowl that curves up around the sides and is right around the same length as a GH. While the GH lies in it, both ends of the GH touch both sides of the dish simultaneously. When the GH 1st makes contact with the dish, the red lights flicker for a few seconds while GH is turned OFF. Not sure if this will have any negative effects long term but I have to think that it can't be a good thing and that it certainly isn't manufactured to act this way. Is there a short? Should I be worried? Should I report to GH?

Sorry for the long rant, but after a year of waiting, had to let it out.

Hop on Hoppers!;)

wrt how much to pack into a load at once....I suspect we are all very different, that our definition of 'strong' or 'harsh' or 'flavorful' are all a bit different too.

I don't see an alternative to taking your GH and trying different things (ain't the end of the world if you sacrifice .05 g and find out this light of a load ain't for you...right?). I guess I'm saying YMMV is true in this regard IMO.

I have found that I like both 1/2 full and full with no tamp. I use Rachett's funnel and medium grind so my full load isn't at all what a full load would be like for a conduction vape like a packed and tamped Pax 2 load.

To me, 1/2 load works well and does run a bit cooler and a bit more tasty...but even a full load by my definition above isn't that much product and tastes/works fine for me at least.

Cheers
