First noted in the one-hitter thread, but sadly, that venerable thread isn't getting the traffic it deserves. In any case, this is different. Easy, almost too easy.

A small dab of green crumble smeared onto mesh in Vandy Vape's Mesh RDA. The resistance wire coil is replaced with a mesh strip. Vandy supplies kanthal A1, nichrome 80, and stainless steel 316L mesh strips, pictured. Clamps are tightened onto the mesh strip with a regular, slotted screwdriver. That's all there is to it! Can also be used with one, two or more coils as a post-less deck.

Wicked for nic (or 0 nic) e-juice. (May as well use a cotton ball. Holds a lot of juice - no need for juice wells.) Flavor with e-juice is intense, yet resolved. (This naturally flavored, 100%VG e-juice tastes like a refreshing honeydew and cantaloupe salad with cannabis dressing.) Handles high wattage with or without temperature control.

SmqRAiQ.jpg

Nic juice and concentrate are easily loaded from the top. Squonk ready. One or two air slots.

What else? Fold the mesh into a pad or twist into fanciful shapes? Wick with ceramic for concentrate? :sherlock:

Was looking at this mod for ecig a couple of weeks ago.

Looks nice, they also offer the ability to switch to coils as well as the mesh. I believe you can use up to 2 coils.

Looks easy to load the mesh/coils too.

Keeping an eye on this atty.....

All vape, no smoke please.
I was also looking at this new RDA in one of the many online e-cig stores' e-mail newsletter / spams that I allow myself to receive, which helps me keep up on this new type of gear. Way to put it to good use, Accept

So the e-cig guys are all crazy about mesh now? If that's what they say so. :shrug:I feel like these vape "trends" can be like self-fulfilling prophecies sometimes, but options are good.

It's news to me that mesh "coils" can operate in TC mode...because with the new generation of handsome, wood+SS mesh, 510 dry-herb atomizers that we are being treated too (I need not name them all) ... one common theme is that they all cannot operate in TC mode, because the resistance rises so little, not enough for the mod to act upon or control meaningfully. And that makes me sad. :( Maybe kerozen can chime in and explain to me why I'm wrong? :D

Don't know about that. Found a few DIY tutorials on using mesh as coil. For stainless steel, it's important to start with 316L mesh - the "L" is for low carbon. It's typically rolled into a cylinder, flattened into a thick ribbon, and then wrapped into coils. Also works fine for concentrate. SS mesh has been around for many years, typically oxidized and used as a non-conductive wick.

The "one-hitter" thread evolved in parallel to vaping trends, eventually settling on wickless builds with complex wire composed of multiple strands, which act as wick and coil both. These can then be wrapped in parallel with simple wires. It's an approach that makes for amusing flights of fancy (and some beautiful and effective builds), but it can be intimidating for newbs. This mesh deck elegantly simplifies the concept. It's inexpensive and as easy to use out-of-the-box as any e-juice tank or cannabis vaping device.

nice thread! i just got this RDA. after many builds and ups and downs... until something better comes along... this is it. ill be recommending this to anyone.

as @Accept said right out of the box youre up and TCing your concentrates. i love this thing. and there are more mesh clamp RDAs coming. there is a preorder going now for the digiflavor mesh pro. looks nice also.

@Accept where are you sourcing rolls of SS316L from? i know vandy vape sells rolls, but i question its quality. it would be great if sandvik made this stuff, but i dont think they do. i havent started looking much yet.

my current build. running it on an Evic Vtwo mini at 400F - .21ohms - 13watts. and loving the flavor.

Bought a sheet here, but mainly using the Vandy rolls.

You can also use more than one mesh strip to create a thicker pad. Don't know if it really helps, though.

Hi @Accept , you said to use high wattage either in power mode or TC mode... why lower wattage does not work?

I think cause oil will fall on the deck before to be fully vaporized....

Haven't used the Mesh much, but @2clicker has renewed interest. Need to confirm observations - stay tuned to one-hitter thread for updates.

On TC, haven't noticed concentrate falling onto the deck, but seems to produce more re-condensed reclaim, which lightly coats inner surfaces. The main reason to use power is to vape everything at once - more like a dab. The resistance wire heats more quickly. Haven't tried this lately with mesh, but plan to later. The flavor on TC is remarkable, though.

new here, made this account just to chat with you guys about this. Just picked up the vandy vape mesh RDA and so far it kinda works ok for concentrates, but i notice it either rolls off the mesh, or the mesh allows the wax to seep through before it hits vaporization temps. what settings are you guys using it on for wax? using my alien 220w

Got mine in yesterday and got started playing around...there is a ton of potential here!

Taste is decent even before I have it dialed in. What's great is the efficiency...there is no mess or pooling. Just vaping what you put on the screen until it's all gone. I'm getting good effects on dinky amounts!

When the dab is done you just hold the button for about 3 seconds and watch everything burn off for a clean session next time. Makes for great travel since it's clean after every use if I burn off afterwards.

I don't have things figured out yet for best results for taste or clouds, but it's clear to see this mesh has a lot of things going for it.

glad to hear your results are good. can you advise what mod youre running it on and what type of settings...?

temp control or power mode? what wattage and temp?

my cheap Evic devices cant seem to keep the meah from glowing hot when not babying the fire button. so ive chalked it up to the shit TC that joyetech devices provide. ive got a DNA chipped mod coming ans should be here by Sat. im hoping true TC will remedy this issue. in TC... the mesh should never glow at 380-420F. hopefully thats my issue.

I started with your settings! Using the Joyetech mini with the Tubo firmware.
TCR ss316
13-15 watts
400 - 500F

I'd like it to go hotter so I think I'm gonna switch to wattage mode and see what I get

tubo firmware...?

you should up your wattage. keep it in TC and up the watts to 30. thatll give you more heat faster. you shouldnt need anything hotter than 450 temp wise in SS TC. in fact 450F would probably really irritate my throat.

remember that wattage mode will jsut continue to get hotter the longer you hold the fire button. so be ready to fire on and off in an effort to not burn your errl.

thanks guys...I'm not an expert on box mods yet!

Tubo firmware - the open source firmware that funkyjunky has been tweaking for his tubo evic. It's got a lot of features I like, including setting the shut-off timer and cruise mode.

Just changed my wattage to 30 and will give that a go later tonight...

Love this thing
Use at 30 watts
Mine does pool underneath but I use too much probably, the best bit is u can let it cool and it comes off in one, just reapply to mesh and good to go
Like the wide mouthpiece so it doesn't stain the teeth

what mod are you using? settings?

im not familiar with funkyjunky or the “tubo” firmware. i thought only Arctic Fox made third party firmware for Joyetech devices. is funkyjunky an FC member? is there a thread here regarding this?

also when you said you were dry burning your mesh after each dab to clean it for the next... are you getting it to glow when you clean it? is there anything at all left on the mesh?

i ask because my Evic mini was delivering amazing rips at first. then i started noticing burning a taste at the end of some dabs. so i popped off the cap and watched what happened when there was only residue left on the mesh. i witnessed the mesh glowing, only where the residue was left, and smoke. i kept trying different settings and kept getting the same burn / glowing coil so i stopped using mesh on my joyetechs. so it surprises me that you may not be getting this over heating on the mesh. maybe it’s because of the 3rd party firmware on your device...?

EDIT: just searched and saw the Tubo device. pretty slick flower vape for sure, but the first page says “on demand temp control” and unfortunately with a joyetech device that is just not true. joyetech devices are not capable of performing real temp control. this goes for any joyetech, wismec, and eleaf device as they are all made by joyetech and use the same tech in their chips. they do an ok job at TC, but its certainly not “on demand”. there is a ramp up of which connot be adjusted like with a DNA device. chips equipped with DNA, Yihi, or FSK chips perform TC properly. these chips will absolutely do on demand TC.

not saying the joyetech chipped devices dont work for this use. obviously they work ok at it, but i wonder how much better that Tubo device would be with a DNA chip in it.

I ride the button until it stops smoking, at which point it is usually glowing red. You can kind of see a wave go over the screen when it does its last burn off and it's kind of cool looking. JakDaRippa did this as well. It would vape and then burn the residue off. So I hit until the taste goes south, which tells me the good stuff is gone and only shit is left behind. At that point I burn the rest off.

As for overheating, remember I was doing this on 13 watts, not 30, so that might have something to do with it.

Everything after your EDIT is beyond my current knowledge base...but I'll catch up! I need to check out those other mods you are talking about...

ok so yeah... glowing red makes sense. when using TC your coils should NEVER glow. thats the point of TC. glowing red will burn your dab. for those wanting nothing but flavorful TC then we should be able to ride that button forever and the coil should never get red hot. thats why im switcing from joyetech to DNA personally. i used to love my joyetech devices until in finally understood how TC should work.

they work ok, but you can get a DNA75 mod for $50-120 and itll have the best TC available. accurate TC. well so says everyone who has one. ill have my first DNA device saturday and will report back after setting up the different profiles and vape curves. the DNA people (Evolv) made a software to hook their devices up to. you can customize just about everything the chip does. including how the power is distributed to the coil per second. for instance... you can set the chip to hit you with 50watts for the first second of the hit. then you can have it back down to 20watts for the rest of the rip. this gives you actual on demand TC. you wont be able to tell the difference between the first second of the rip compared to any others. does that make sense? you can set it up any way you want. giving you total control. hell you could say 50watts for the first second, 10 for the second, 25 for the thrid, 60 for the fourth... etc... any way you want it. and the chip reads temp better than the budget chipped mods as well.

DNA is more expensive tho.

Please keep in mind - observed poor results with mesh on DNA chips. One mod did not regulate temperature correctly at all. The other worked fine with mesh installed as directed but couldn't handle three mesh strips installed in parallel. An EHPro mod regulated both. Only did one test - not as interested in TC.

Also, be careful with Yihi. At one time, the chip had a dry coil shut off which made it useless for these applications. This could have been addressed since - no idea.

good call. i meant to say that bit about the yihi chips and their damn dry coil warning. yihi chips are not an option for this use since the coil would almost always be considered “dry”. even with a fresh dab on it. basically rendering it useless. it wont fire.

regarding your DNA experience with mesh... do you have custom curves set up on those devices? and have you attempted to adjust the curves to work with mesh better? considering how different mesh is vs wire i would assume that the curve would need to be different as well.

my wife is going to hate me this weekend. im going to be glued to my laptop in escribe trying all kinds of different curves for mesh and wire. you can name the curves so i was thinking “low wire”, “hot wire”, “low mesh”, and “hot mesh”. the “low” curves would be for flavor chasing and the “hot” curves for clouds. maybe even have a “med” curve for the in between.

Meant to add that you might be able to fix the DNA chip's issues with programming, but the verdict is not yet in. Looking forward to what you come up with!
