The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

I only use my whip. I stopped using bags because I hated the taste and found it very dry and harsh. I like using a perc with my Q via the whip and am typically in the 220-235 range with the whip and about 230-340 with the perc.

Maybe it's your technique? With the bag the herbs are getting a steady airflow of heat. Try the elbow pack method? Makes for some serious thick hits if you put the heat in the med-high range.

Does anyone get weak feeling whip hits with their Q?

I really, really like this vape but it seems like the bag just hits so much harder than the whip.

Just got an Extreme Q. I am completely new to vaporizing and am having a problem with using the unit.

The bottom screen just doesn't seem to fit flat in the cyclone bowl. The first time I used it, when I tried to gently stir the contents, the screen turned sideways, dumping the contents into the Extreme Q and onto the burner making a bit of a mess, staining the burner and wasting the contents of the bowl.

I've tried to flatten out the screen but I'm not having much luck. I've also tried trimming one of them and while it now fits flat in the bowl, still does not seem to be very secure. I'm kind of worried of dumping everthing again.

Any tips for a newby?

BTW, I too found that I needed to turn the temp to 200 minimum to get any decent output...

Was that one of your first bowls? After a few loads some of the material will stick up against the screen keeping it mostly secure. The screen itself will probably have a bit of a curve no matter what. If you're worried, take the bowl off to stir it (carefully, it's HOT) and then it should be fine.

My screen flipped a few days ago but I was using a metal stirring stick (from my SSV) and I guess I wasn't careful. But that was one time out of over a hundred bowls so you shouldn't be too concerned.

Hello Vapenewb, what i usualy do is use some tweezers to fold up the outer edges of the screen, only about 1mm worth all the way round should do it.
If that dosent work for you, iv noticed that sometimes one of the spare screens will either fit better or worse, so that could help.

Same thing almost happened to me.

Go back one page and look at the pics posted about how to do an elbow pack.

You will use less weed and you don't have to worry about the cyclone bowl acting all funky.

Thanks for all the feedback. The screens are starting to function better after a bit of use ;) Also, I'm using 2 screens at once - much harder to flip both at once while stirring.

Quick question about the temperature with the Extreme Q. I wonder if my unit is getting as hot as it should. I decided to check actual temps at the screen with the temperature probe on my multimeter. I connected the elbow joint and fed the temperature probe back through the piece of hose, inside the bowl, so that it is suspended just above the bottom screen in the cyclone bowl. Setting the machine to fan speed 2 I get the following results:

When I set the Extreme Q to 100 deg C, multimeter readout settles at about 95 deg C after a few minutes

@ 200 deg C, multimeter readout = 173 deg C

@ 260 deg C, multimeter readout = 216 deg C

Increasing to fan speed 3 or decreasing to fan speed 1 only changes readings by a few degrees.

Thats interesting. I'm vaping my herbs much lower then I thought then. Usually I start at 200* and then go to 220 half way through. After that its pretty much done.

So my EQ came in today. I was really pumped and brushed up on my readings here. Then went ahead and fired it up per the book. Results were great. Really liked the bags, nice thick vapor. The whip is nice, not super thick vapor all the time but very nice still, great for passing around to keep feeling good.

Ended up buying from vapeworld. Everything went great, got it all for $272.43 shipped with free grinder and adapter for waterpipes andddd extra bags.

After seeing vaponewb's temp readings I went ahead and started bagging at 210C. Then would bump up 5 or so degrees depending on the greeness left in the buds. Managed to get 6 people really nice feeling off maybe 2.5 grams over 8 hours.

I really hardly got any noticable smell. Definitely easily covered with a candle. Bags are so cool.

Really glad I spent the money on this vape. So diverse, cool to chill around. I will eventually get a SSV probably for a dedicated whip model. But first I have to get a LaunchBox

I would really like to see some more info about this, like what the actual readings are starting at 160c going up 10 deg till 250c . Temp readings at the cyclone bowl screen and at the elbow screen , the two seem like standard distances from the heater.

I will try to post some more temperature data if I get a chance this weekend. I will add, that with the temp probe suspended above the burner, without touching, temps seem to be much closer to LCD read out than when suspended just above the bottom screen. So I guess this is what the heat sensors are caibrated to measure.

Tried packing the elbow screen for whip on demand yesterday as described here. Works great! Makes for a few hits as thick as I would want at 220 to 230c.

If i put my ear near the Q I can hear what almost sounds like static. It's constant... does anyone know what this is? and is it normal?

I've also been cranking up the Q to max 260C, and am getting some seriously awesome vapour and never ever any combustion. I also notice get much more stoned at the higher temp.

I can hear a very slight hum/buzz whenever the 'heat' light is on. this is with my E v3. normal me thinks

very cool info there with the temp readings

Hello all. I just got my Extreme Q in the mail yesterday and I'm really enjoying "getting to know her". This forum was very helpful to me, so I thank you all for your informative posts.

I just did the stupidest fucking thing, though. I wanted to try out the aroma bowl so as to show my wife that this new contraption is for making my mancave smell nicer.. I put the dead flowers in the bowl and set it to 50 degrees. Then I opened up one of those glade plug-in refill thingies and put a few drops on the dead flowers that came with the unit. I let it run for about an hour with the fan on 1 and showed my wife how nice the scent was now in my mancave thanks to this new toy of mine.

Next I decided to try my first "elbow pack" that I have been reading about on this thread. I was very proud of myself (using the techniques that I've learned here) and loaded a full bowl in the elbow and was a little suprised when almost none of it came out when I put in on the Q. Then I cranked her up to 230 and decided to wait a few minutes to let the gonja percolate a litte.... Well, a few minutes turned into a half hour and when I returned to my Q, I realized that I had left the fan on the entire time because I forgot to turn it off when I took the fucking dead flowers off!! I vaped the shit out of it but it all went to waste :(

I'm going to try again now, and I can assure you I'll never "percolate" with the fan on again!!

Has anyone else done stupid shit like that?

Made a thread already in the Ask FC and have done searches to no avail , I need help re-attaching the bag to the glass mouthpiece , KjRockwise had instructions for it posted but the link is now dead :(

Hahaha! That's some funny shit! Did you have your wife come down and see how nice it smelt after that? lol I'm guessing the smell might have crept upstairs?

I guess we have just discovered a disadvantage of the Q, on setting 1, it's TOO quiet! lol But that's why there is the little LED to show you that it's on :)

Insert mouthpiece into bag and put an elastic on. Then fold the bag back over and put another one on.

thanks vape4life but it is easier said then done I can't seem to get the o-rings over the damn stem and bag why the heck is there not a video of how to do this on the web arghhh and or on the arizer site

I know, I still struggle with it too sometimes. The trick is to not be gentle with the elastics. Just stretch the hell of of it and get it over the hump. If you play around with it for a while you'll get it.

The last page of the owner's manual shows how to assemble the bags.

I've had success using cable ties, as well.

1. take an elastic and put it over the mouth of the bag.

2. take the glass piece and put it into the end of the bag, near the elastic.

3. leaving a little bit of bag, slide the elastic and the bag over the first glass hump so that the elastic is in between the two glass humps, over the bag.

4. last, fold the bag opening back over the hump and attach the second elastic on the side closest the bag.

VOILA!

Yeah.. If the fan was louder, I would've noticed it I think. Damn quiet fan!!

I had never vaped before yesterday, so this is all very new to me. I'm enjoying the education and research, though, I must admit.

How many good rips do you guys usually get off of a good elbow pack at a single temperature? I know you have to stir it once or twice to get the max yield, but how many should I expect at say 190 before having to start cranking up the temp?

Thanks again to all for your input.

Good question...and this is what I do.

Note* different herbs will be different temperatures, and now to herbs are exactly the same, but this technique is what I use and I am have had to stray from this technique ONCE.

I use my 4 piece grinder to grind my herb upside down. I use the 'vacuum' technique to get the herb into the bowl and then I lightly tamp down the herb with the reverse end of my glass poker stick. I start at 190 or 200 and I expect 3-4 really satisfying hits before I need to stir. I'll stir once and get 1-2 really good hits. Stir and go up to 220. Get 2-3 nice hits again. Stir and hit until no more vapor comes out on the exhale.

I have never gone past 2 elbows (I'd estimate .2 of herb) before I need to go watch TV or eat or do something that isn't vape. lol.

Thanks for the info, Finchrock.. I'm using the same "vacuum - reverse glass poker" method and I'll try a few at 220 now that I've gotten the most out of my 185 setting... Then I will definately go eat and watch tv because I'm already pretty vaped.

Good times....good times.....

Personally I never stir... .2g isn't enough to warrant that in my opinion if you crank your temps up past 220. I keep hitting the elbow until there is no more vapour and the vapour remains are always nicely browned. I always use a perk so maybe that's why i gotta up the temps to get past the water and ice.
