The Bare Essence works and works well.
The price is amazing for the craftsmanship involved, and the vapor it produces.
I was negligent of making a video, before I met some homeless patients (card holders) and passed my units to them. I knew I might not see them again, and there were 3 of them... just the number of Bare Essence's that I had.
The sideways vent for the heat/flame deflects the heat well and lowers the potential for combustion.
One of the 3 men were old school, and said he knew how to use it... and I watched with amusement as he attempted to use it like a "Ubie" (look it up if you do not know the word!)

Awesome Vito! Doing the Lord's work as usual

I've been enjoying my Essence through water lately, so easy to get good vapor without scorch risks. Also it is super microdosing and can milk a few hits out of a full load or just some tiny one hit wonders that barely fill the basket. Visibility is just right on my inline honeycomb bubbler even though it looks a little tall. This really is a fine ass effective vape and dare I say it, the Bare Essence makes it a total VapCap killer imho...

This is after two hits of this strawberry banana and I got three more, stirring (which is super duper quick and easy to do, simply lift the wood body off the stem) after each one:

Since I introduced the Essence there have been changes to the air inlet tube. This is the latest
    [IMG]
These work great but I have had some that have cracked. Cracks mostly happen in new stems.
I have replaced all cracked stems and am working on this design for the new stem.

This has very little restriction and hits hard. Combustion is easy to avoid and you can point the flame in from the side or top.
I only have a couple of these but will order some next week after I test it a bit more.
This design I believe is more rugged.

Hey @mistvaporizer and @paytonpenn I have been checking out this vap for a while and very interested in picking one up. However, I have not pulled the trigger as I am concerned about inhaling the taste of butane while using the device. Have you notice a difference in the taste of butane with the new inlet tube vs the previous inlet tube?

    Thanks

Haven't tried this latest one, but the most recent one does not have any taste other than the herbs. The early prototypes may have been more at risk of that with their plain straight intakes, but the design pictured at the top in that post with the hole on the side is better in every way. I have been seriously impressed with the Essence's performance compared to other direct butane torch convection vapes, so simple yet it works so well! I am sure you can get the new intake when it is ready too, but the vapor quality is already great as is dry or through water

@Tiny88 I'm the only one with the new design. I'll get more by Tuesday to send around. Flavor with the new design is similar to the side vent

Yes, I know, but I have seen that @paytonpenn has reviewed the Essence. :)

This vape has been evolving so quick my only fear is releasing an actual video review and then the pieces have changed confusing potential buyers.

Flavor with the essence has been good for me. I find a longer airpath improved the flavor more so but all around butane doesn't really bother me when inhaling.

paytonpenn got it right for sure. I have tried to respond to user comments as well as simplifying the manufacturing.
I used the Essence/Bare Essence almost exclusively so I could push the components. Unfortunately I have only ever had one intake crack so they seem pretty durable to me. Others have not been so lucky. I went through various scenarios with the glass team and finally it seems that the side port has such unsymmetrical geometry that it is difficult to produce consistent pieces. The latest design has a lot of room for glass expansion without creating cracks.
    I'll start shipping these tomorrow.

Morning session today was with the "Bare Essence" and a soft blue flame.
Later today I will get a video of what a nice set of hits I can get from a pinch using the bare essence.
I have never had any of these pieces of glass crack.
When I demo one I always emphasize the soft blue flame.
I posted a vid of "soft blue flame" at http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vaporgenie.1/page-102#post-380636

I can use mine with a large flame too, while I have had one crack on me with a small flame. This was because it was imperfect from the get go, whereas I now have two (a long and a short one since my Essence is a little older) that have seen heavy heat from larger flames and my often poor aim without any cracks or issues. So I think when you have a good one, it will work any which way regardless and should not crack from the heat with any flame size of small torch

I love using the Bare Essence.
It has less of a learning curve than a VaporGenie!
Once I get the idea across of using a soft blue flame, they do not combust.. even 1st timers, to my surprise.
This is a single session video Patty took of me.

Thanks @Vitolo great video. I never tried to load the herb that way, I generally load the stem just like a Touch. You got great results!
Received some colored glass to have stems made.
Top is amethyst purple, the photo doesn't show it off very well but this is really pretty stuff. Faint purple, very pleasant to look at. Then moving down the pic jade white, blue, amber and lime green. Having a few of each color made.
Hope to get the stems and the latest design of the inlet tubes tomorrow.

In the end, the abv still is a small plug in the end of the glass when taken apart to clean.

Well, here's a first, quoting myself......but, anyway...got my Essence today, and first time out of the wrapper was a successful session. A very nice little package for the money, this rivals the entry level Vapcap for value. Straight hits out of the 14mm glass for this evening, will try the WonG tomorrow. Again, great first impression for eighty bucks. I already had a fleet of torches, but no matter, this and a nice single flame torch is all you need to play. The new inlet tube, with its deflection, really enhances the feedback you get from the temps you are sensing in your throat. Very close correlation. Interested to see how it translates with 14mm sidecar and the WonG. More tomorrow:cheers:

    Nice! Double firsts! Photos?

And yes! Plus the Bare Essence is only $30 which makes it even less than a basic VapCap(?!) An insane value and even moreso for anyone like me who much prefers this type of direct torch heating for instant powerful pure convection (don't get me wrong VapCap is fun for sure, but this style of vaping is just waaaaay more effective for me personally)

very nice package! those new inlets look good too @mistvaporizer luckily I haven't cracked a new intake yet... my misfortunes came from applying too much heat OR trying to use it in the dark.

Did a video with the new air inlet tubes on a Bare Essence using the Bubbler with the carb valve
    Click to play YouTube Video

Here is a pic of the abv after the first two hits
    [IMG]
I was a little aggressive on the heating and got just a bit of charring
Then I stirred and got a few more hits
    [IMG]
Backed off a little on the flame and got this nice dark brown abv

And here is how I am holding the flame
