Just a thought, are you using at least the 99%+ stuff? It can come in lower strengths and is no where near as good as the highest strength. (which is 99.9%).

This Thing Really Sucks!!!! I Fill it with vector butane, use it one time... try to use it later and I have to empty it out , refill it then let it sit before I can use it again.

What a piece of shit!

And it says to fill it until you hear the gas "spit back at you" but you can never hear it spit back you just have to guess

Very disappointed!!

Hmm, this part is interesting. Which way are you filling it? Just making sure that you are holding the bottle of butane with the nozzle pointing down. You are trying to fill it with liquid, not gas. When the IO is full, you should see butane fluid start spurting.

It took me some time to figure out the workings of the Io... I'd never played with butane before. Now I love mine!!

I hope you get it working for you Yewrev!!

Hey guys,

I've been using my iolite for about half a year now. I have "cleaned" it a few times with iso and it never seems to work. All it does is unclog the screens. The bowl and the heating chamber have turned this weird brown colour. Almost like they are rusting or something?

I've been using Q-tips dipped in iso but to no avail. I haven't tried scraping it off much, i tried to get a bit off the heat pin with a paper clip but it scratched it a bit. If it is rust how could this have happened? The ISO? Anything I can do to leave it as clean as it once was? I've uploaded some pics anyway. Sorry for the quality my phone's camera sucks

It's probably not recommended, but I steam clean it with its own heat. Just wait 'till it's hot and get a dropper and put a few drops of water down the tube, but be ready it's like a small explosion, don't burn yourself !!!!!! then I take out the screen and clean it further with alcohol.

I heat mine up a bit, and put ISO in the unit and leave it overnight upright in a drinking glass. I cut the tip off of a rounded toothpick, and use the flatted end to "scrub" the bottom. The wood doesn't seem to leave scratches in the aluminium.

that is similar too how I do it, except I chew on my toothpicks a tiny bit too create more of a brush than a poker.

Hey cat307, we all have done it at least once in our life. I wanna know how you got it apart, if i know this i might be able to help get it back together. Like vaporninja said, take some pics and let us have a look see.

i will take some pictures asap it just like a lot of things it comes apart pretty easy. there are two torx screws on one side under the colored decal mine is white just peel up the white part and un screw the screws. from there it is just snapped together. when i took it apart this wire U just fell out so i have no idea where it was and where it goes. it must have something to do with the ignightor becasue i can get it to light but it will not relight on its own i need to press the button again. anyway i am going to buy another but it would be cool if i could get this to work

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I tried the above method but the stuff won't rub off. It's getting really frustrating. The unit dosen't smell of resin anymore though so I suppose that's a plus. Could it be rust?

Just a thought, are you using at least the 99%+ stuff? It can come in lower strengths and is no where near as good as the highest strength. (which is 99.9%).
This could be my problem, the stuff is hard to come by in Ireland and it's also quite expensive (12 euro or something for 500ml, and the % alcohol isn't even on the label, it was OTC in a pharmacy)

I might try a bong cleaner in the headshop.

hey cat, u can e-mail them to me if u like. I'll take a look at them when u send. I think the u shape wire may be part of the lock for the ignitor. May explain why it won't relight itself on cycles. Just a guess. My e-mail is under my screen name.

OMG, you sir are SO right. I take apart/fix until broke so much shit, and it is NOT good...I'm getting better though, I think.

OT: I picked up a used unit off of cl tonight and it seems quite nice, I need a little tubing as the mouthpiece gets warm, but it seems pretty efficient and effective.

I had a volcano that didn't seem to work well over time for me which I gave to a friend who appreciates it more than me, I have an Extreme Vaporizer which I loved until it recently broke, I have been too lazy to package it up and send it northward...but I do really like the extreme, and I digress.

The Iolite seems quite nice and will be better once I pick up a little tubing to cool down the vapor a bit. Considering how hot it has to get internally to work it is impressively cool, I've had laptops that get hotter.

So I've had my iolite for about 3 months now, but have only used it for the last 2. I was expecting my mouthpieces to melt/break and they finally both did last week. Unfortunately, O&B were closed for the holidays and open back up tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me how long the process for getting the new SS mouthpieces took, from emailing the company to delivery? Btw, I'm in the US.

I'm considering just ordering a 3pack on ebay for $14 b/c I figure I'll have them way quicker. Thoughts?

Shazbuckle, maybe try a real fine emery paper or steel wool...it ll scratch it a little bit but should get off any rust...if thats what it is....Yewrev, have you tried putting on one of the red adapters on the butane? i notice that the filler on some of my vector cans will not depress the valve on the iolite and that it needs the little adapter...only one or two will fit into the hole so, play around with them, also, repeatedly "pump" the butane can when you are filling it... that way you can guarantee no air bubbles...
i think the next thing we (as a collective group) should start hounding iolite to make some kind of bowl latch to hold the bowl in... nothing worse than having than accidentally not holding the iolite body, just the tube and having the damn thing drop off, wasting all your smoke, possible breaking the unit.... i wrote them and recommended them to start making like a protective cell phone cover for it... cant be too hard or expensive... you see them all over ebay etc for every cell phone ever made... it would serve a two fold purpose, one is you can design it with a simple sliding bowl latch that would hold the bowl in and two, to help protect a pretty expensive investment when you inevitably drop it... plus you could design all sorts of cool designs from ones that have a "cell" phone look to help camouflage it, to some cool art.... anyway, just a thought.... but if enough people start bitching about the bowl coming out, maybe they would look into it... anyway, just some thoughts... currently im using a shower curtain clip...its oval and i cut off the bottom bit so its "U" shaped with it just starting to curve back in on the ends...this enables it to clip on to the first fin... if someone tells me how to post pics, i can take a pic and post it if anyone wants.... happy new year one and all!
