Herb Grinders

the threading? what’s threading? I’m still a bit of a n00b when it comes to certain terms.
Threading is basically a screw-top. You have to twist to remove top. People sometimes don’t like as much because they need to twist more to get it off (sometimes a few times, sometimes less) and herb can fall in between threads and clog up.
Without thread, you lift off top, you just lift (pull). Usually a stronger magnet is used to keep it together, but some don’t like because it may not be as airtight, and easier for an unwanted disassembly to occur.

The clogging along with quick access was the major downside of threaded grinders.... im still limping with my SpaceCase 4 piece threaded .... probably takes like 7 turns to open and requires lots of thread cleaning

But the quarter-turn locking system design helps get around all that and is employed as i understand by Herb Ripper, Lift and Santa Cruz Shredder plus probably others

I am by no means an expert so please correct me as i dont own any of these beauties yet and dont know anything first hand .... who knows i may end up with a BCG

Can i ask what dissapointed you about the Lift?

I am also curious to hear what issues you found on the Lift.

I find both the coarse and regular plates completely useless because the grind is way too coarse and uneven with hard BB sized pieces. The fine plate is decent, but still not as even and fluffy as i'd like it to be.

After owning the Lift, it's not an option...hated the grind consistency, but yes easiest to turn by far. I don't have any real issues other than my hands are on the larger side, and all the twisting with a bunch of material does cause me tendonitis in my wrists

SCS gives the fluffy stuff! I can't stand chunks of hard dense tidbits in my grind....another reason I hated the Lift Innovations, as easy as it was to turn.

The Lift is another great Canadian company that I think is really good for those with issues with their hands/wrists, without being overly concerned about the grind consistency. It's great for tobacco with their different sized grind plates, but for me anything but the fine plate was completely useless, coming from a medium-coarse fan too. It definitely was the easiest grinder to use, but that slicing action did muck up the blade quickly and the consistency sucked for this herb grinder snob. It's great for its niche market, but yeah overall the hype didn't meet my expectations that's for sure, so I had to take a loss (as usual).

There are reviews on here, but the Lift produced anything BUT fluffy IME. I love a coarse even grind, and thought that the medium and coarse plates were completely useless for my needs. The fine plate wasn't too bad, but it wasn't even and fluffy. I HATED that grinder!

Shame that the Lift Innovations Clipper was a dud....I was so stoked for 3 different grind consistencies and finally a grinder to end GrAS but that was not the case.

The Lift Innovations Clipper coarse plate was extremely coarse and chunky, but actually had "density" to the flakes just like the finer plate which I didn't appreciate. The fluffier the better for me, but it also really depends on the vape.

I have the Kannastor V2 and it worked but was just a PITA to use as a DD. The threading gummed up quickly and the teeth attracted a large amount of resin which led to sticky action when grinding.

I put it through 2.5g/day and never had any of those issues.

wow. I just went on lift grinders’ site. they have a grinder that costs 300$. it’s made out of stainless steel mind you, but still.

$400 CDN. Insanity.

Thanks @SquirrelMaster ....now youre gonna get me looking at the Ripper again

I had read that with the HR, you need to turn only clockwise, at least to start, otherwise the bottom opens with the quarter-turn on the first counter-clockwise grind-turn.... It’s the immediate start that is always the hardest turning that cannot be done counter-clockwise ... i got the impression that it was diificult to turn especially with a full load

Sorry for taking a few days to get back to you but I wanted to clarify that although the HR has the ¼" turn like I said it does suffer the problem you're describing of having to start by turning clockwise IF you're grinding a decent amount of material and you're not holding the bottom firmly or you didn't crank it closed initially or it can open accidentally. The teeth are sharp but comparing it to the BCG the resistance felt is much greater. The BCG is just so buttery smooth that I sometimes question if I have even put material in. I don't see the Lift having this issue because with how it's designed there is only small amounts of resistance at a time as the blade cuts.

The minute Lift Innovations makes a true 3 piece where the bottom piece is deeper (like on the HerbRipper XL or BCG) I'll place an order. That's the only thing stopping me right now because I want a larger surface area to hold, more room to catch ground material, and to eliminate the indent where the kief catch screen would go. Any chance that will ever @Lift Innovations?

That is the only drawback of my modded 88mm SpaceCase,

Well...I've had my ZAM Grinder for a few weeks now, and I have to say that it has exceeded my expectations.

@lazylathe has already posted different pictures of the many different ways that you can configure this grinder, so I don't feel the need to.

That being said, I received a silver version of this grinder. It's a bit dusty in the image, because I've been using it since I received it:

IMG-1538.jpg

Mine came with two top inserts, one debowler, and one cup that can be used for storing nugs or anything else:

IMG-1541.jpg

I also discovered that the cup-insert works in the bottom-half as the ground herb catch chamber. And with the size of the grinding chamber, it works well!

IMG-1544.jpg

The magnetic band works great, aside from what some others here have said. I can turn it upside down and shake it all around quite violently without the magnet losing it's grip. I have been heavily surprised and happy with how well this magnet works.

And hence, the absence of the center pin, so that it's "all teeth" is a huge plus in my book, and one of the other major features this little personal grinder has to offer.

The grind size/consistency is about perfect for my needs. It's not too course for my vapes that like a finer grind, and it's not too fine for my vapes that like a courser grind. It's a good medium-to-fine grind that's quite universal. I feel like many vaporists will find it meets their needs for almost any personal dry-herb vape on the market right now. Even though the grinding chamber is so small, the herb gets chopped multiple times as it slides down those long teeth. I suspect that function is why/how this grinder accomplishes such a consistent fine grind as it does.

The PTFE liners were a fantastic addition, and it keeps the metal in the bottom section clean. I prefer a three-piece grinder, so I don't use the bottom screen. Given that, I'd like the option of either a longer PTFE insert for the herb-catch at the bottom, or possibly a silicone puck that sits in the space under the current PTFE insert to keep concentrates in.

The top section PTFE debowler insert is a fantastic addition! I always carry an extra container to store my ABV in till I get home, and this eliminates that need. I'm very happy about that.

Also, another addition that I would love to see would be some sort of silicone or even PTFE disk that you could put over the catch bowl and screw the midsection down over it so as to make both an airtight bowl for storage as well as keeping the ground herb stored in that bottom section from falling back into the teeth/grinding section when the grinder is inverted would be a welcome addition that would bring this useful little perfect grinder closer to perfection.

Overall though, this is a great personal grinder for most vaporists who like to grind fresh every time. It's also a true all-in-one pocket grinderI highly recommend it. This manufacturer has made a fantastic entrance to the market. I look forward to future iterations of this grinder.

Thanks for an interesting and unique product, @ZAM . I look forward to what you come up with in the future.

For what it's worth, this is an extremely modular grinder, and we all know how we love "stoner legos". For those of us in that family, this is right up our ally.

This is the largest build, including the kief screen (a 4-piece grinder):

ZTTfsiu-ET2e3vb-XQln9p5-A-thumb-101b.jpg

This is everything disassembled:

IMG-1547.jpg

This is my preferred build (a 3-piece grinder:

IMG-1548.jpg

And this is the smallest build (3-piece with smaller herb-catch):

IMG-1550.jpg

^ That last one is the ultimate pocket-grinder, and still includes the debowler!

All in all, this grinder has a great entry-lever price point, and it's stoner-lego'ness still allows us to customize it to our own individual needs/style. It's a welcome addition to my grinder collection that will get much use from now and into the future.

I was on the search of a new grinder cause I didn't like to have to grind several times per day, I have a cheapo 4 parts (my favourite!), a S&B plastic 2 parts and a Zeus Bolt (works well while clean but it tends to be sticky too fast) all 3 in 5.5cm size. I have too a Herborizer 4 parts and another from vapornation (with glass top) both in the 5cm size and 2 others smaller cheap grinders.

I liked the Herborizer but it is too small for me so I used the Zeus at my office and the cheap 5.5cm 4 parts at home, this one was my favourite cause it didn't become sticky like the Zeus too fast but I ended to crush a lot of flowers by hand only cause I didn't want to deal with another grinding activity.

So I have to choose between 2 choices, buy an expensive grinder with 1/4 turn threads/magnetic or to buy a cheap but BIG grinder and have only to grind once or twice per day... I choosed this option and bought a very large cheap grinder of 8,5cm, silver alu 4 parts. I'm very happy with my purchase, it's a lot more confortable in hands than tiny grinders, sadly cheap means you can't mod it in a 3 parts grinder cause the threading doesn't seems to be interchangeable... it thread in only for a 1/4 turn in the 3 parts option... finally it might be not so sad since I have now a big one and 1/4 turn too!

I have a purple 63mm SLX V2.5 that is still shedding purple and 3 tickets opened and not a word back from them, even the Aussie seller that sold it to me says they will not return his emails.
The unit has scratched itself to bare metal in places from me trying to wear it in by cranking empty.
At least it was cheap....ish.

They used to make the Zeus Bolt with a crank called the Vortex. Best grinder i've ever used, never needed cleaning and provided the best coarse grind i've ever had, with the least amount of effort required. Shame they stopped making them, and i've never found a suitable replacement for it unfortunately. I'd pay good money for one!

must’ve been pretty neat! how much did it retail for? do you remember?

It was only like $60 IIRC vs the $50 Bolt? I remember having so many of them I gave them away because every time I bought a new vape from TVC they would either toss in a Bolt for free or a Vortex for only $10 more. Damn, those were the days... the Bolt must be solid though? Never had one..

I thought they looked junky so I never paid the extra for one from TVape. Yet I had a few Bolts that I gave away and mine is missing a ton of metal from years of use. I wonder how something like this would compare? https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/C0deTzOY

It won't, I went on a blitz with crank style and they're not "screw down" like the Vortex was. I tried Sharpstone crank, Black Leaf, and several others and put down some good money and they bit. Mine too was beat up with anodized coating coming off.

I settled on the Kannastor v2 and never looked back. Still miss my crank though because all that twisting fucks up my wrists and forearms with tendonitis, but that was back in my 2g/day days! lol

Kannastor Gr8tr is my favourite with the coarse plate.

haha I do that with the bolt. every time I buy a new vape off of tvape, I choose to receive a zeus bolt as a free gift instead of a zeus vape cleaning kit, and I’ve accumulated quite a few, so I just started giving them away as gifts. haha

I haven't used a Kannastor but that's why I love my BCG, it's so easy to turn. The Lift Innovations should also be easy on the wrists but I haven't picked one up yet (waiting for a true 3 piece and then I'll order one immediately).

Wait, I had a true 3 piece Lift before? Did they stop producing them or?

I mean with a taller bottom piece for better grip and more storage and the elimination of the ring indent where the kief screen would go. HerbRipper got it right with the 3 piece XL compared to their 4 piece regular if that makes sense.
I’ve been checking out herbripper’s 3 piece xl grinder.. I think I want it. it’s made of stainless steel, right?

Pure stainless, I can't remember the type. Heavy as hell, you could kill a man with one ha ha. Feels very nice in the hands. They're also working on something new right now too according to 420vapezone. Looks cool. Magnets :o.

My hope is a more medium grind like the BCG. The medium on my XL is more medium-fine, the fine is what it says and the coarse is very coarse, like chunky coarse. I can use the medium on my XL for nearly every vape I own, except for my MV1. He does custom engraving too, it's really nice. I don't regret my Herb Ripper purchases one bit and I'll proudly buy his magnetic version.

Just found out that the BCG is made in my city! I think that's kinda awesome.

Does anyone have experience with the BCG and the Kannastor Vape Gr8tr V2??
