Great questions! Glad you ask!

So we've been trying some new, in-house laser engraving but I actually think our grinder is too resilient for the lasers!! What a pain!

We're instead opting to launch a very limited, very expensive HEAT TREATED version. These will be limited as the process is very difficult to ensure that the grinder is still the optimal density, shape and structure to grind and absolutely pulverize your herbs to perfection.

And on the topic of the rocks:

Unfortunately, no. These rocks have not been certified fair trade. We are currently working on certifications with the appropriate agencies and will hopefully have our in-house rock production facility started soon. We just need a small amount of $200,000, which we will be raising via a kickstarter.

On the bright side, I am proud that I can say with absolute integrity that our rocks are RANGE-FREE.


That's right! You heard it here folks. I watched these little babies grow from meager specs of dirt and sand to the full fledged trichrome-smashing machines that are now in your grinder.

Right off the bat, their claim that they're "the absolute best herb grinder" rubs me the wrong way. Especially because it seems to me it's a very unexceptional grinder in pretty much every way. And their 'testimonials' are hilarious:

Cute, but too expensive IMO.

Still on my 3 pc GR8TR with large holes often. Do grind upside down for a bit to get things a little finer, but like this better than finer grind plate (that comes with Vape version). With larger plate I can get a grind that isn't quite as fine, and holes don't get all clogged up. Pretty easy to dump from deep concave bottom to small tubes/vials I use for out of the house with a small funnel.

Mostly, still trying to find a way to grind that I enjoy more than a good old SC 2 pc. IMO 2pc is hard to beat once you learn how to use it. Less twists for courser grind, more for finer and use that tasty kief right then and there rather than letting it decay while laying in the bottom of a grinder. Pretty much everything I vape at home gets ground here, and about 1/3 of what I take out. Just a little trickier to dump to tray, then use funnel to get it into small tubes/vials. So, when grinding quickly when on my way out I just grab the GR8TR. Other than that, 2 pc FTW.

I'm thinking about prototyping a new model possibly for retail production. Just gotta find a way to separate the rocks from the herbs, but the chakras in rocks help replenish your energy if you vape them anyway, so I'll be leaving my own personal model without a screen... anywho... what size screen for sifting purposes would potential customers like to see? I know people like to not sift kief and don't want anything hard to twist/open... trust me I am working hard getting baked and thinking about the least expensive and minimally hazardous route I can take.

Will update more often (and maybe with pictures) especially if people donate to that Kickstarter!!!!! But still perfecting the production on those heat treateds... it's a bit hard really and I've only go so much material since I don't spend a fair bit on the loo or wasting paper cleaning up little spills. I'm actually airing the workshop out now from a failed run as we speak...

For only $500.99 you can upgrade to the 'Crack Pack', in that you get an unbelievably thin glass container for the rocks to go in. The glass is designed not to crack but it will anyway. Also the rocks are upgraded to a lighter material made from the coca plant which was also grown free range.

And as we have someone in the industry here who we can bounce ideas off here's my thoughts.

I'd like a grinder with interchangeable plates for grind consistency, Kannastor style.
Removable kief screen.
Nothing new there, but here's another idea I had.
Deeper reservoirs for the ground goods and kief, the kief compartment could store a different strain or kief.
More important either a separate lid or the top toothed piece threading so it becomes an airtight container.

I then don't have to transfer from one container to another, @InterplanetaryTanner what do you think?
Lids the easiest option but it means one more piece to misplace hence the threads in the top piece of the grinder.

Here's my view on things:

• Interchangeable grinding plates in/or teeth will likely be the next innovation in herb grinding… everything else has already been done. And unless a radical new design comes up, it's all just going to be more of the same.
• I don't think you can beat the magnetic screen. It's seriously too easy. And it's surprisingly super secure.
• Everyone I've talked to likes the deep reservoir in the first compartment.
• I'm not sure if the second compartment is big/deep enough, or can be big/deep enough to make it worth while as a second 'major' storage area without adding significant bulk.
• I don't think threading on the top piece would be as useful as a separate lid. And...
  
• A separated lid to make it double as an airtight container is something we've looked into… but theres a few problems with it:

1. It's an aluminum container. Which is fine for storage. But it's also not the ideal material people prefer for storage.
2. You have to decide between adding an additional screw on top, or an additional screw on top AND bottom… because why just add a top when you could also add a second bottom piece. Which gives you either a 4 piece grinder and a 2 piece storage container. Or a 3 piece storage container and a 3 piece "2 piece" grinder.
3. Adding in a full on small storage container with the grinder is going cost the production cost to rise by a health amount. Which also means the cost for the grinder is going to be more. Which isn't good for the people who don't want that added functionality.
4. Which means you also have to consider selling it separately. Which means you have to decide if it's something people actually want, AND are willing to pay for…
   

I hope i addressed everything… I may not have. Had a bit of tangent there at the end. But that's all mostly a constant stream of consciousness I think.

@InterplanetaryTanner whoa what am I looking at here? Will your grinder pieces fit into the container part in the photo?

Personally, for me, kief separation is a gimmick. I would love a 3 piece grinder where the bottom container is deeper than usual and concave - kinda like the Kannastor (except without their grind plate nonsense that clogs).

Edit: and I realize the Santa Cruz Shredder 3 piece satisfies these needs, I just haven't jumped on one yet!

The items in the picture you linked are very very rough prototypes on what eventually could be ID storage jars. But storage jars with threading thats interchangeable to fit onto the Super Weapon. - Unfortunately, these are just rough samples so the threading on these doesn't fit the SWI or the SWII.

We were going to move on these this summer, as we were planning on keeping the threading on the SWII for the next version next year. But since we've found something better. Were holding off for now.
