nycdeisel, I LOVE to smoke, but can't abide the side effects - all i really need is the hand to mouth thing and it's nice to be able to out with the smokers at parties and not drain a whole drink or stand there with my hands fiddling. this thing has kept me from starting smoking again. our situation is similar in that we only want non nic juices.

i use a drip tip with a 510 atty and a 900 mah battery. i started with the riva 510 kit shown here http://www.liberty-flights.com/product.asp?id=55 i have a discount code if your order from these guys, let me know if you want it.

and then moved on to a drip tip and a larger battery. DH uses nic juices and he uses a cartridge like the one that comes with the kit and a low resistance atomizer.

do try some bakery flavors from here snickerdoodle cookie is awesome blueberry muffin is good too.
http://www.mstsbakery.com/

and then replicate them cheaply or make different ones with the supplies you find here
http://www.diyflavorshack.com/

fun stuff!
I even found out at our community clean up that our neighbor is a member of a vaporist organization and very active in it. vapers are everywhere, they even sell the cheap ecigs at the flea market around here and there is a dude that sells juices - it is becoming more popular and more people ask us about it every day.

nice to hear from you, herbgirl :)

ms ts bakery looks like they have some sweet stuff! thanks for the links, that makes it easier.

Im still not so sure about piecing together different models/makes/sized parts, but I will check out more products on those sites and see what they say about them.

any other good flavors you would recommend? im open to em, share your :2c:

jeffp said:
nycdeisel, even though the world of ecigs is fun, i know that all of the options and terminology can be confounding and a little off putting but here's one good way to go if you're just getting started and want something decent.
first off this site has very good prices and fast delivery and has good stuff including liquid -
www.madvapes.com
for liquid, pick flavors that seem appealing and have good reviews. right now i'm enjoying their "Hawaiian Delight" and "Top Banana" but their root beer believe it or not is also excellent - also they have a delicious apple flavor and many other nice treats.
As herbgirl suggests, start off with a kit and buy a drip tip to go along with that.
The Ego is a very popular and very good intro kit -
http://www.madvapes.com/510-eGo-XL-Kit- _2704.html
This will be fine.
At the same sight for drip tips -
http://www.madvapes.com/Dripper-Tips_c_204.html
normally an ecig is three or four parts - battery, atomizer, cartridge and optional atomizer cover or cone. with the drip tip you use that instead of a cartridge, connected directly into the atomizer. normally the cartridge connects to the atomizer which connects to the battery.
manual batteries are better than automatics. with the manual you push a button before you puff, with the automatics puffing triggers the battery but it's not as powerful.
you're lucky that you don't smoke - I was a serious cigarette smoker for a long time and I didn't think it would have been possible for me to even cut down but it's been almost seven months since I put a cigarette in my mouth and there's no craving, only an occasional appetite for one. my goal is to reduce the nic level down from 24 mg to 5 by next year little by little. 5 is just enough to satisfy an addiction and bring me to the crossroads of eliminating nicotine altogether.
madvapes is really good.

you too jeff, thanks for the replies. there is a ton of resources sometimes im not sure where to look! but I think im getting the gist of it a little more now ;)
thats great that you quit smoking baccy! I know quite a few people that could really benefit from these ecigs since they smoke analogs although many smokers seem hesitant to change or go in any direction that looks like 'quitting' form afar, maybe I can be persuasive like I have with my other vapes  :brow: :ninja:

p.s: there actually was a time when I was VERY young(too young to smoke, in fact) that I was into smoking cigarettes, but that stopped quite quickly once I saw people who just could not stop. Im very extremely anti-tobacco now.

Yeah, i quit over three years ago and this ecig is the only reason that i haven't picked up a pack with the shitstorm of business and other personal stress right now. that and the fact that they are damn near seven dollars a pack here :o
They are also the reason my husband isn't chuffing down a pack of cigs or 5 black and milds a day. he has a cigar every once in a while when a friend gives him one, but no longer has hardcore cravings - the ecig delivers his nic slowly thru the day. i generally hit mine like a cigar, i usually don't inhale, just in my mouth to taste it, the flavor is better to me that way.

the chocolate milkshack ejuice from diy flavorshack is awesome - funny, it was a freebie.

i only got a few juices to get a feel for how a 'real' juice was made and then I just took the plunge and bought a whole bunch of flavorings & pg (already had the vg dontchaknow:) and am blending from there.
I've also had some generous donations to my collection ;)
so far I've made raspberry doughnut and peaches and cream that were good and a caramel that sucked. it tasted like the coloring in cheap booze, maybe it needs some chocolate flavor or something.

next up will be chocolate covered cherry and blackberry poundcake mmmmmm.......

damn that sounds good, now Im hungry again

def gonna go check out more of those flavorings! thanks for the advice girl!

maybe you dont want to hear about the price of cigarettes here, but I believe I heard they are or are approaching 13 bucks a pack. what do ya think of THAT!?

let me know if you find any other good flavors or any other tips or whatnot, feel free to email me.

I've sampled over a dozen juice vendors, not to mention my continuing foray in to DIY juice.

But my favorite juice is still the RY4 by voidmist. It's a rich, decadent, buttery flavor that comes through better than any other juice i've tried. It just explodes in your mouth.

My second favorite is Erskine by Joogler Juice. It's a tobacco flavor with somethng else going on; sort of half way between floral and fruity. Indescribable, but fantastic. Quite flavorful.

My third favorite is Bronze with Maple Syrup, by Voidmist. The bronze base is a medley with easily half a dozen flavors, pineapple, apple, and so on. The maple syrup rides in like magic. It's so good, especially in the morning.

oh and voidmist has a crazy coupon right now: MAY10_60%OFF which gets you 60% off until may 10. Last night I bought 84 MG of juice for $24 including tax and post. 30ml bottles are like $6 or something insane like that

Joogler has a coupon for $5 off of your first order; find his thread on ECF for info

man i always write a book and end up deleting it

VG mutes flavors, and lends a certain sweetness that's characteristic. so it sucks for what it does for flavors but some say its healthier, so long as you don't breath off a dry burn, as it's degradation product is accrolein, one of the things that makes analogs carcinogenic, and it adds a thickness to the vapor

when i started i definitely tasted and smelled the fog machine from the fun house (PG), and when i first switched to VG i "only" noticed the sickly sweet taste it has, but now i only taste the burnt atomizer coil wire, so i'm being funny but i really don't notice the PG or the VG anymore, i just try to keep as much VG as i can because i think it's healthier, and the vapor hangs in the air, but i need some PG... ~20%

essentialwholesale.com in the US sells 16 oz of PG and VG shipped for $20, then nic juice on sale where ever it's on sale at the moment

nic juice turns yellow after a year, but still works, and vendors have sales every so often, if you dont mind yellow nic juice you can get 500 ml of 50 mg for less than $60 i think

Just got some vortex clearomizers. These things are awesome! Cartomizers all taste dry to me, even the dual coil just doesn't cut it. And most tanks just blow.CE2s are a pain. But the vortex is easy to fill, extremely consistent, and it actually looks pretty cool too. Flavor is close enough to dripping that I really don't mind. Plus, there's a nice clear air path from the coil to the tip, which is just excellent.

and im on my way to getting my first ecig!

lol... The clearomizers are a plastic tube with the guts of an atty inside and they act as a tank holding juice. Some folks love them, others get leaky ones or whatever. Great thing about how much vaping has evolved is there is so much to try...if one thing doesn't cut it for you, try another.

I actually ordered a 2 AA non variable voltage 3.7 box mod from madvapes and I haven't used my Ego configs since; I like it so much I gifted a friend with one.
Best $23 I can remember spending. I like the fact that replacement batteries are inexpensive. I drip with Cisco 510LR atomizers but I may try standard resistance for possibly
improved flavor. I tried it with a cartomizer and it was the first time I ever enjoyed puffing on one. I wish there was a suitably sized lanyard or protection case - it's plastic and I imagine if dropped on the sidewalk you can kiss it goodbye. I could also live without the flashing LEDs - no reason to call attention to myself to that degree. Overall it's excellent.

First up: http://trippytips.com/
Blown glass drip tips. Fucking crazy. just bought two more. The guy is just getting his act together but the product is awesome

Second, just wanted to report that I've been using the same debridged 306 for about a month-- With earwax. I just put a little dab in, big enough to cover the hole. It melts to the side, so you need to turn your ecig a few times. But it's extremely efficient. And extremely powerful. It completely vaporizes the earwax, which, being totally pure, leaves only a very fine ash.

The wax did sort of glue the drip tip (cannon) to the atty. I used pliers to wrench it out. Dented it up a bit. But i tossed it in the ultrasonic cleaner and it's working as good as new. Just has a few dents... hah.

I made these 18650 flashlight mods after I got six free batteries out of an old laptop battery pack

the flashlights were in an eight pack at home depot for ten or twelve bucks, the switches cost $3 each, a one inch flat body washer and a finish washer plus a battery connector are the only parts used.

the large washer had to be filed to size, so i could press-fit it into the end of the flashlight, but that left an ugly gap, so i filled it with JB Weld, filed it down, sanded it, and colored it with magic marker, then rubbed it out with PG until no more black came off, dried and buffed

the battery connector is cut down with a dremel cut-off wheel so the center pin reaches down just enough to act as the battery connector (in the pictures the center pins were removed prior to soldering)

the shortened battery connectors were pounded into the finish washers using a special jig, then JB Welded to the flat washer only for the first three, after that I switched to only using lead free solder and scrubbed away the flux afterwards. (the drill bit size for the middle of the flat washer is 11/32")

Each cost me $6.08 to make, not including atty;
each also cost about an hour and a half of my time, plus a week of contemplative design thinking.

center pins make the bat contact (removed before soldering, so not in this picture). solder points were added to bottom of washer to insure electrical continuity and strength

Do I love my JB Weld and Magic Marker surrounds too much?
I rubbed them out with a cloth soaked in PG until no more black came off, then dried and buffed with a new cloth - they're not perfect, but I am obsessed with them...

At the moment I am using a Puresmoker Icon 1.1 with an LR306 atty, but in the evening this is my vape, it is a Dragon e-pipe from epipemods, it has a 10ml bottom feeder in the pipe stem, 510 connection, and best of all runs an IMR 26650 4000mah battery :D

yeah, where did you get that stem? That's fucking nuts. Great piece btw.

And VW: How did you connect the atomizer connection? The whole no wires thing really threw me

WOW!! What a pipe!!! That looks fantastic!!!!

ROFL! I have a couple 26650's charged and ready...getting my Helix this weekend at Vapestock! Whee! I shall report back next week...lol...the batteries should last 3-5 days depending on use. Great stuff!

Yes Lo these batteries keep a decent voltage for about 4 days for me, great stuff! The downside is that they are hard to get here in Europe.

The long stem is custom from Cherryvape. It makes the vapor a lot cooler and a lot thicker, like a condenser. If I use a short bent pipe stem from epipemods and then switch to the long stem it's very noticable. The longer stem makes me want to grow a long beard and don a wizard's cloak :D

OMG Frog! I can't tell you how excited I was this weekend. At Vapestock here in Florida...the epipe mod guy came to the event. Brought a ton of his pipes and his giant "hammer of Thor" which is sized like a cordless drill. More of a novelty but O...M...G! His wood work is AMAZING! He is a really nice guy and SO talented. I chatted with him a bit and got to see all of his goods including some really fancy ones that weren't even for sale lol. Was highlight of event for me.

OMG.. Yeah it was so much fun Frog and JustJulie...well she is JustFabulous! I adore her SOOO much :) So sorry you couldn't be there.

Yeah Matt was there with pipe porn galore and I am trying to hold myself back but really feeling the urge to grab one of his pipes as coffee table art. I can't believe how talented he is and he's a younger guy too. I was in awe!!

I just signed up for voidmist newsletter so I'll be alerted to the next coupon discount - looking forward to experimenting.
right now my favorite is straight tobacco from totally twisted texas. it's just hits the spot like nothing else i've tried.
for best value i would say madvapes top vapor brand liquid - good stuff, lots of different flavors and very inexpensive.
my favorite atomizer is cisco LR 306 1.5 ohm with an XL delrin tip - it's in effect an atomizer cover. i am of the opinion that
cisco atomizers are second to none.

thanks for the juice suggestions... aside from the health benefits, this whole realm is a lot more interesting than going to the corner for a pack of marlboro.

lol Jeff! I got to meet the Totally Twisted Texas and Madvapes people this past weekend. Such nice folks!! Can't say enough nice about them. They donated stuff for our raffle and were just awesome people.

Another newer juice vendor I met and really liked was Bombay Vaping (bombayvaping.com). They do custom mixed juices and I am really liking a few of the flavors I tried from them so far.

So many juices out there to try...so little time!

I'm still lusting over the epipes though ROFL!!

bat connectors are a tube with a pin held in the middle by a silicone grommet, and I've dremeled away half the outer tube, so the center pin can touch the battery

here's a couple of pics:
di-L6E0.png

di-LMRP.gif

of course, with the battery in place there is pressure being exerted on the pin, so i have to pull the bat before pulling the atty

I thought this idea for the switch location was pretty cool, and it's dead simple...

the roller on the switch arm helps, i can pick it up and squeeze without looking for the switch

when i first put it together my battery was a few hundredths too long, so had to re-solder the top, which created a gap between the finish washer and the top of the brass aqua-pex connector

Props to the original "Push-Pop Mod," and the atty-center-pin pressing against battery is a la the "Gummy strikes again" mod. many thanks to them,

VW Push-Pop Mod (video)

di-SIKN.jpg

di-IGU9.jpg

di-8RLO.jpg

this shows the one wire used simply brushes against the rim of the brass top

battery is removed by grabbing the atty and base and snapping the top off, and presses back in place with the positive end of the battery fitting loosely into the brass top as it goes in.

Lo, have you sampled flavors from both madvapes and twisted texas? i would reiterate but that would be redundant!
You should know and feel proud of the fact that you were the one who indirectly got alot of people in my 420 friendly building to quit smoking.
A neighbor who quit told me a few days ago that he doesn't drip from the drip tip down, he removes the tip first and drips into the atty - this makes
good sense and cancels out the possibility of getting juice in your mouth.
