Davinci Pocket Vaporizer by Karma

I'm on my third unit and if this one is defective ill just get another one. I never contemplated getting a refund because the DaVinci fit my needs so well. It did everything I wanted but better than I expected, my units were just defective.. Even this unit sometimes stops charging when it's at 3 bars and I just have to un plug the charger and plug it back in. So yes, you might have to deal with a defective unit, but if it is what you are looking for I would recommend getting another one and trying again. The DV is what I really wanted though so IDK if this will help you. Karma is supposedly putting out a new unit this year and I'm hoping they will do trade-ins. You might not want to deal with defects, but every unit I have ever purchased besides my arizer solo has had some problems, and I dropped my Solo in a cup of water, though it still works, I have the worst luck so even if I was to get a refund and get a new unit it would either be defective or I would mess it up haha. My only unit that had no issues was the DV and the SSV. The SSV was bought from someone so it was fully tested so I don't count it. My luck isn't good either Ape but such is life.

Well the problems with the SSV are me. I've broke two heater covers and the only reason I say it is defective is because I think the heating element isn't running as hot as it used to and before I sent it in my heating element came to far out exposing some wires and I could never get them back in. There are many variables though so it is hard to tell, but they would fix the heating element for pretty cheap so it's not a big deal. I have HORRIBLE luck. I hated the MFLB's batteries so I thought the power adapter would help me so I bought it and it was basically defective.

I had to press like since there isn't an unlike button, I feel ya button, we are in the same boat button and many more of the same. I had to send in the MFLB cause I couldn't get any batteries to work...I liked my old one now I have the new style which leaks herb from the crack that has been made by the "lock". I have moved paced that vape anyhow cause you know I love my INH.

im new on here but not new to the site. I totally appreciate everything you guys say and info you provide. I wanted to know if anyone had a good way to get the bottom screen out of the da vinci! I figured it'd be a bit more difficult than the other top screens. I just didnt want to break or ruin anything on this lovely device. thanks for your time and keep vaping! peace

We usually recommend using a dental pick to get the bottom screen out. Works like a charm. There's really nothing down there to break, so don't worry about that part.

As the designer and manufacturer of Da Vinci, I would like to address the comments regarding mystery vapor and offer this comprehensive response. The mystery vapor which few have seen is a short term purification process of an organic rock based insulation material called Mica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mica) which if not fully 'burned in' will continue to burn off the impurities until cooked away. Because Mica sheet is an organic rock compound, the amount of dirt and sand (impurities) varies inch by inch and can leave a larger deposit in one application over another. The purpose of the Mica Sheet is to insulate the heating wires from the metal bowl (this keeps the bowl from passing electricity to any metal object you might stick in it).

We chose to use Mica sheet insulation because it is well proven in the consumer and vaporizer industry. It is used in your oven, microwave, lanterns and other vaporizers because it insulates electricity and is an organic material that is stable in high heat environments. We also feel the organic compound is a better choice than the adhesive backed synthetic insulating jackets that are also offered.

All manufacturers employ a 'burn in' process and as a result to comments on mystery vapor, we have doubled our 'burn in' time to further eliminate these impurities. This additional burn in time has curbed all issues. But if there was any remaining organic vapor, it is because we use several Mica layers wrapped around the bowl and occasionally a collection of debris may take longer to burn off.


Da Vinci is one of very few brands who actually own and operate their own dedicated manufacturing facility so I take great concern on the materials brought in and our QC processes. We are engaged with the vape community in an unending effort to raise the bar and help bring the best products to market. So along with these elaborate explanations, I thank you for the scrutiny. Such comments have tuned our ears and I have buried myself in 'bowl research' for the last year. The cumulation of my research has led us to develop the most advanced glass on glass portable vape (www.davincivaporizer/Ascent - coming this March) with great detail to a consistent bowl temperature and uniform heat. The pure taste will be a 'first' in the industry and with a 4 hour battery in a device smaller than the iPhone is a testament that we are listening to a committed vape community.

Wow, I honestly thought this response would never come, so thank you. So it is okay to be inhaling that mica vapor? I'm willing to trust davinci on this, but I have to know whether something is safe to inhale before I do it. Just reread the post, so it is actually dirt and sand vapor, not micah vapor, am I correct? Am I ok to use my unit that still does this, or should I send it back in?

The unit is fine, as it is truly just dirt and sand, but as we've stated in the past, if you're worried about it or think its an inconvenience to cycle it through that many times, I'll be happy to send a new one out for you. At the end of the day, I just want you to be happy with your product.

Will a new replacement be guarenteed against the dirt/sand offgass? And approx. how many cycles to burn off the ones that have it the most?

Well, given that we are still using that specific material, I can't guarantee that it won't do it for a short time period. However, we discontinued the use of the double wrap as it was just taking entirely too long and have increased the burn in time at the production facility. Typically, 7-10 cycles on 405F should do the trick if there is a sign of vapor. Pretty sure I personally cycled at least 700 vapes when we first noticed this problem.

So i've been using my davinci for a few months now and my only real complaint is that the screens seemed to get clogged up with resin in just a couple of uses. I've since used up all the extra screens so now use it without any. This seems to give me the most unrestricted flow of vapor at the cost of getting some tiny bits of herb in my mouth. What does everyone else do?

Secondly, do you guys clean your units with anything other than just the brush? I feel like it could use a more thorough cleaning every once in a while.

Soak them in alcohol rinse and reuse. Use an airduster for a thorough clean

This. Do it. I'm still using my original screens because of this method. Soak in alcohol for a few minutes then (an alternative to air duster) take the DV brush and brush off the debris. Works like a charm.

On another note it is wonderful to hear from you Davinci about the issue that has concerned so many in this thread and I hope the reluctant few that didn't purchase your product are now willing to give it a try because it really is a great little device. It is apparent that Karma is in this business, not to just make a quick buck but to make a quality product they can stand behind and that's something to truly admired. Keep up the great work and I am very excited to how you guys takes this to the next level with version 2.0

I use iso with q-tips in the chamber but hold it upside down. I put the top screen with cap in iso.

well now i feel silly for throwing those screens away. But you could barely see any metal at all the resin was so thick

So next time why not try flaming them? Hold them by the edge in a small clamp (old out of work roach clips are good for this....) and blast it with one of those little torch lighters. Make that Stainless Steel glow! The ash blows off easily after that. In vapes like my Iolite where this happens a lot I save a little jar of them until I have a few month's worth (a dozen or so).

Mica has been used before as i recall seeing related pictures illustrating what you've just described.

Now there's progress made as far as i'm concerned, thanks about that!

Just a quick FYI if you haven't already figured it out, the rubber tip on the whip fits perfectly in the oven so if you need to pack down loose grind or jam a screen down there, use that. I find that if my grind is too loose it will quickly clog the upper screen when I draw, so a little tamping with the whip keeps it nice n neat.

Couldn't agree with you more about the top screen getting clogged if the plant material is ground too finely. Personally, I don' grind at all primarily because of this. Nothing we can do here though, its caused by the airflow and it sucks everything upwards.

No grind? I've contemplated that but thought it wouldn't extract all the potential vapors. I'll try a whole flower tonight and compare. Anything that sticks to the screen is no big deal though, I just give it a quick scrape with the back end of the brush when the unit is still warm. I may even poke it with the bristles to get all the nooks and crannies. God I love that brush. Brilliant!

Hi , Davinci team, could i ask - what should I do - im using my vape for a long time, almoust a year i guess... and my biggest problem is- screwing stem - with chambers lover screen - is really sticky - and i cant unsrew them anymore ... i guess some of the sticky vapor got in those small groows and stick together making it unbelievable hard and almoust impossible to unscrew ...
