Kt, if you don't mind PM me your address. I wouldn't mind sending you out a heating chamber since you share everything with the community. What color do you have?

@Atmos Raw Retailer: Whoa! That is incredibly awesome of you. I actually went down to the local head shop today because I was going to buy another heating chamber. I was willing to pony up another $70 for it, so it should tell you I am somewhat satisfied with its plant vaping capabilities once the screen fix has been applied. :)

I'm in north san jose. Would love you buy you lunch or something in return if you're in the area. :)

I am gonna send you one tomorrow, but what you could do is email the company and tell them what happened about the spark and the screen and unit getting hot and now the heating element does not work. You could also mention about the glass screen and I'm sure you would get a new heating chamber and glass screen. I'm giving you one as a gift and I'm not affiliated with the company so I don't see a problem with it. It would save you some money and you would have the extra chamber necessary to use oils and wax in.

@AtmosRawRetailer: I'll be glad to do that. Perfect timing, the Atmos people emailed me just 2 hours ago and asked me for my address so they can send me the glass screen. I'll let them know about what happened with the no2 screen!

Wow, I didn't know you weren't affiliated with the company. :( I feel bad about taking it now. It would be awesome to have a heating chamber because I think with the glass screen they're sending me, perfect vaping would be very very possible, as the glass would bring the herb closer to the heating element, without conducting. That way it wouldn't take so much heating to get the herb vaping from the top, and the unit wouldn't get as hot. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway!

I do feel a little bad about you sending me a heating chamber at your expense. If you want, you can send me one of your old used ones and keep a nice new one for yourself.... :D

Lol. It's not that big of a deal, I have a bag of new ones. I have 2 oil chambers and one bud chamber and I really hardly ever use the bud one. I like to keep both of the oil ones packed with .1 as much as I can so when one runs out I just screw the other one on. I'm not tripping off sending you a new one, it's good to have another person give feedback on the Raw, and I am tripping off sending a oil soaked used chamber. With my luck the envelope would end up breaking and the mail man be like, "Wtf is this?"

@AtmosRawRetailer: THANK YOU - true to your word, a shiny new black heating chamber showed up in the mail to day, along with the ceramic mouthpiece vapor conditioner. Thank you SO much. I saw your town on the return address and I'm glad to know you'er kind of close. I bought my first car there when I was 20. :) If you're up by my neck of the woods, let me know, I'd love to take you out to lunch or drinks, I owe you one!

Atmos also got back to me and they're shipping me their glass screen/filter for vaping now, so things are looking up again! Going to refrain from fiddling with it too much until the glass bit gets here.

I did get a fellow FC lurker's email earlier today - he himself picked up an atmos due to his smoking health issues, and needs a portable, discreet vaporizer. He got the atmos and was worried about combustion, talked it over with his headshop, and they gave him a little honeycomb ceramic screen / mesh filter. He showed me a pic and it fit RIGHT into the heating chamber perfectly. I imagine this wouldn't conduct, and could give some temp buffering for proper vaporization of herb... I'll post any and all updates here as they come! :)

Just contacted customer service about getting a glass screen, they are supposed to be shipping one out to me. I hope it gets here, and does the trick. I am still willing to let the AR redeem itself. So far it makes more sense to put glass in there, than any of the other fixes I have tried so far.

@jambandphan03: mine should be here any day too! can't wait. I did some googling though, and one reviewer got the glass screen - and said it was a no go, and did not work (no further details though). He said the wire mesh screen up to worked the best.. hmmmm.

Yeah, I am not getting too excited, but glad they are trying to make it happen, and sending me a screen. I know I've had a bumpy ride with the AR, but after the $200 investment, I feel I must keep trying to get something to work. I have tried several versions of the stainless screen with no luck. i am also curious about the previous post about the ceramic honeycomb screen, any updates about that??

Aw man, yeah, talked to our lurker friend and he said the ceramic was a no go :( he didn't describe in detail. He said he put a titanium mesh screen up to like he saw in the pics, just like the no2 screen would drop in, and he says he was getting awesome vapor clouds with no combusting. Showed me pictures on his ABV, they were about 40% green and 60% a very very light brown, so I don't know...

You know guys I've been following this for a while, made a comment or two along the line, and have been hoping a fix would present itself. A lot of good trial and error efforts have been expended with out repeatable results of worth for most (some are not that concerned about combustion). Those efforts continue, but prospects seem dim.

Taking a longer view we know the concept guys are working on now will work. Even though it seems evident the original design was intended to work entirely differently, we know from the Thermo Vape T1 example that a battery driven direct draw convection vaper can be made to work. But, consider the techniques necessary for them to do it. For openers, they run 30 Watts and store heat for a fair fraction of a minute before starting the draw. Consider the mass involved, it plays a factor. It's also a chamber up to a high temperature, heat is 'bouncing all over' in there when air is finally pulled through, it doesn't have to physically contact hot metal like in the RAW, Infrared Radiation does the job as they pass thorough. It's called 'the kiln effect'. Careful efforts are made to control the airflow through the core without being effected by the load just above. The exit plate is fairly massive, less than 50% holes and fairly thick, it too performs a thermal function. The result is the air all exits at the same temperature, or very close to it. And in a uniform manner as it enters the load. The scheme used in the RAW as modified does not have this advantage. The average temperature might be OK, but there's no guarantee of no hot spots making that happen. In fact that pattern changes with conditions. Remember the margin between vaporizing and combusting might be a few dozen degrees.

Again, if you look at TV as a model and consider theirs not only works but is probably the result of lots of calculations, tests, models and so on we can get some clues. Their design wasn't constrained by having to use an existing platform. Consider the Alpha Ultralite TV already makes is like standard e-cigs like the Atmos (perhaps with a better battery). They also make a super power version, the Ultra. Neither of these platforms was found to be large enough and powerful enough to work (you can be sure they'd rather use the smaller, existing units instead). They went to a much larger battery pack driven by a unique battery in that format and are haunted by short battery life at that. Not to throw cold water on the efforts, but IMO it's a tough hill you're tying to climb. Bless you for doing so, of course, but it's not really your duty to sort out what seems to be a marginal product. And I think that's being kind to term it marginal, considering.

Good luck, I intend to follow with hopes some resolution is found. I'll help if I can, but for now I'm glad I'm a spectator in this little drama.

One more video - now that everything is "working" I thought you guys might like to see results.

Cliff notes: Lot of priming and heating to get very wispy vapor that hardly shows on camera (though once hot its a little better), uses a tiny PD stem sized bowl and returns a varied hodgepodge of ABV - some flecks are still a light green (maybe 15%), some are tanned/dark brown (~60%), and the rest are really tiny particles that have scorched and turned black, just not enough to fully combust and spread the fire to the rest.

I agree OF, when it comes to vaporizing bud the atmos raw has some room to improve. But considering the company and market, I think they are going to try and make those improvements, lets just hope anyway. I also agree that maybe this thing wasn't made to be a true vaporizer because a lot of people don't care about combustion and would probably want combustion more than thin vapor. If your used to blunts, joints and bongs you probably want thick vapor/ borderline smoke. I honestly rarely smoke herb anymore so it's not an issue for me, I just throw .1 of wax and it really does impress me. Kt if you get another chamber I suggest throwing some wax in the raw so somebody else knows what i'm talking about.

I think you've got it. This is a real tough crowd here. Look at the Forum name.....

And no doubt about it, it does work for wax to some extent....something not to be lightly dismissed.

I hope it's not going to end up stalling or being abandoned as a project. "Herb carts" I think have a real place in things. It may well be possible at ten Watts. I think it'll take a serious redesign not just a screen. I also think insulation and a very small load will be part of it. But PD has proven a few 30mg or so loads will be sufficient for many users. I think this might be possible, but not easy. This kind of stuff doesn't scale well you know. As stuff gets smaller you end up with all wall and nothing inside it....

    Time will tell.

i got my atmos raw like 3 weeks ago and ive pretty much been in the same boat, lurking on this bored for a minute now and trying the methods you guys keep coming up with it (apreciate it to by the way). anyways i got a honeycomb glass screens from atmos in the mail the other day and they seem solid. at first i felt as though i barely got any vapor but afta tinkering and getting my technique down, im pretty up there. (with these screens its hard to get the thing to combust at all spring in or out. (i still use it spring out) and you definatly gotta make sure its well heated. anyway thats my experience so far ....and yeah my herb i brown with a lil green in it afterwards ... hardly any combustion or black spots after. anyways when you guyz get your glass screens and decide what options you prefer. post away. peace

I finally decided to take the plunge and get one of these bad boys from amazon. I ordered the vapir no2 screens in case mines doesnt come with that "new version" screen. At the same time I emailed atmos raw customer services voicing my concern of combustion and hopefully theyll send me on those " honeycomb glass screens" . I too was lurking on here for a while and decided what the hell it was a decent price. My go to device is the classic volcano, so im hoping this will let me enjoy vaping on the go. I also read somewhere they were making like a concentrate attachment type thing, I know someone suggested just having 2 different chambers one for herbs and for concentrates but an attachment seems easier. Doesnt bother me regardless as I have no access to concentrates. I have also been iffy on making bho out of abv. anyway ill post my results as soon I get it

Price was a factor, I got it for 102 with free shipping on amazon. Thats how much I payed for the MFLB when I first took a chance on it, and honestly people say the same thing about it, "if you dont use it properly, you wont like it" or " it combusts if you pull to hard/ its all about temp control" So I figured with every product theres a bit of a learning curve, but if I learned how to use the flight box, and ended up getting rid of it cause of the whole battery thing, why not take a chance on what seems to be an awesome little device. but I still havent received it yet. so when I do ill give you my actual thoughts lol

OK so I reached out to atmos raw about the glass screen before I even received mines from amazon. They told me that not only is amazon not an "authorized retailer" but that I would have to pay for the screen and not be covered under warranty. reason for this is because amazon sells it way lower than the authorized price. anyway the the rep was nice enough to suggest returning the one from amazon, and purchasing directly from them, when I told them the reason I took the plunge was pricing she said she might be able to do a price match. To my luck she spoke with the " boss " and got me a price match. $102. To add to my luck this place was local down here in south florida, so I hit up amazon, cancelled/returned it, then drove to the atmos place, and picked it up brand new in box, same price I paid on amazon but now I have 3 year warranty. EVERYONE in the place was super nice and very helpful, they said anything happens within the 3 years, come back, they will gladly replace anything.

    * Now to the glass screen, it looks to be pretty small, im not sure exactly how itll fit and work as im charging the battery and im at work. but as soon as I fire it up ill let you know!
    * I think I also read somewhere in here someone said the power button gets hot, well they included an extra power button if that makes sense?
    * Oh and when I got there the "boss" came out and explained to me the whole amazon thing and they just price it too low and blah blah, but he kinda walked me through his way of using it, and he said he uses it with the glass screen/spring out and primes it about 3-5-9 seconds before actually starting to pull vape. it all depends he said, as with anything theres a little bit of learning curve.

IMO this is the most versatile vape pen on the market. The battery is better than all the rest. It vapes everything but flowers perfectly. They sell Omicron like cartridges, and I hear it even heats better than the Omicron. The cartridges should be available to the public soon. Atmos is close to where i live so i went to the office and bought the cartridges. Concentrates right on the coil work wonders too. I think i like putting the concentrates directly on the coil instead of the cartridges, because you dont have to prime as much (drain battery). The amount of flowers you can fit in to that chamber is only enough for about 4 hits. Who wants to take four hits, empty and refill. You end up spending more time preparing than you do actually medicating. If not vaping flowers perfectly is enough to deter you from liking it than you probably should stay away. Even though I must say i have gotten pretty good vape hits with flowers using the new glass honeycomb screen. It takes a bit of button timing though. Money well spent IMO.

Good morning JD, welcome to the fun. Congrats on your new purchase, glad you're enjoying it. I assume you've never tried Omicron? If you like "putting the concentrates directly on the coil" you're sure to love having a carefully metered supply of concentrate automatically delivered to the center of the coil. This means, amongst other features this system will continue to feed and vape when the heater itself 'scabs' over with deposits from the concentrates (as happens eventually with even the best it seems). I also wouldn't bet the farm on that 'best battery' part since power supplies like Omicron and TV use the latest state of the art chemistry available. Very hard to beat that with a self contained battery.

Anyway, you might try getting a couple of real Omicron carts, they come in two powers you know, something those who follow seem to be lagging on a bit right now? You'll need an adapter to fit the Atmos as it's 510 thread (I think? Although my RX is 601 and runs Omicron carts quite well). I know for sure you'll enjoy them and you'll have a broader choice of powers? There really isn't a big priming issue with most concentrates, but you'll find that out if you try it. And if Omicron can't make a cart that doesn't need priming how come those copying it can??? Something's not adding up to me.

Anyway, thanks for the input, please continue to enjoy your vape and let us know how it continues to work out?

No I have not tried the Omicron and am basing what I wrote on videos I have seen on Youtube. Yea I know about scarring the chamber, but I was told from the guy at Atmos that the heating chamber should be switched out every couple months. And then he threw a free heating chamber in my bag. How long do the Omicron and TV last on a single charge. Last night I got about 4 hours of constantly hitting the Raw. The guy at Atmos also showed me a drop in screen that is a solid metal bowl with a screen, but they werent selling them yet. I have omicron carts and they look damn near identical to the ones Atmos is selling. I have the adapter but my Raw works just fine without it. And I didnt say the Atmos carts dont need priming, I said they need less priming, but im only basing that on a Youtube video of the Omi. I will definitely enjoy my vape and thx for the input. This is me letting fuckcombustion.com take my virginity as this is the first thread i post in. I have for a long time enjoyed reading on this forum but this thread made me wanna participate.

    Thanks for the thoughts.

I don't think there's any real difference in 3.7 Volt power supplies for the most part. If you run Omicron carts on your power supply I'd consider it 'using the Omicron', wouldn't you? I suggest that scheme is longer lived (several grams, typically) and easier to feed on one end and for serious duty the Dart might be a better call than switching out since it's designed to be alcohol soaked and boiled clean as needed but should give long hard service it seems. Either, I think, will also work well on your power supply, one needing an adapter, one not.

Enjoy your experiments, I'm sure enjoying mine.....

I know I've said it many times, but the rubber band button on the AR SUCKS. My second one (replacement for the first one that broke) is already stretching out and doing the same thing the first one did just before it broke. The battery itself works fine, but the button is far inferior to any other e cig battery I have used from various makers. I don't see how this can be considered to be a good design. It's seems it is made to fail so you will have to buy a new one (or bug the company to keep sending replacements) I got my glass screen in the mail, and have not had time to try it because I am moving. Maybe next week, once I am unpacked again.

I have to say for my bubble hash collection, AR is working just fine. I do use it almost daily, in line w/ my bubbler. I just clean it out really good between loads, so there is less build up on the coil. An Iso soak took care of my clog, but now the paint is flaking off the heat chamber.

I want to mention again, that this is not meant to be a bash, just being honest about my experience with this device. I have been using many different e cig style battery devices for going on 3 years now, and feel I have a good handle on quality and function. I'll report more after I get the time to mess with the glass screen.
