Wow, its nice to see all the info I picked up on the ascent the last time i called was all verified by DV. I feel honored DV backed me up. I was very afraid they were going to come back and refute everything I had said but instead they gave us even more info.
Man, I hope this ends soon. Everyone here is great, very valid points regarding the Solo IMO. Just wish we were all getting the same batch quality to those already in possession of/or have the Ascent on order.

The point wasn't that the Solo had all the wrinkles ironed out. The point was that it wasn't announced way ahead of time in any advertising or on any forum. It was announced here on 5/27/11 and you could buy one the same day. There was no hype.

You seem to be taking it personally. That doesn't make for an objective argument (not that there'll be one here). I'd say awful smell and chipping ceramic, along with inconsistent handling of complaints, comes close enough.
Not in the least. I am simply impressed with the Solo all around. Yes, they may have had their issues, but they never made any false claims as to what their unit would be capable of doing.

I guess I am just frustrated with the whole Ascent fiasco in general. I feel bad for the early adopters who are going through so much pain right now. I was almost one of them...

Vaporblunt followed that Method. The pinnicle pro basically dropped out of the sky and hit the ground running.

Nothing wrong with starting an early buzz. As long as you don't get stung[/quo
Agreed.

A lot of people are. Good design. But I well remember the lynch mob in that thread that took quite a while to disperse. For us, it really did rival this thread in the 'mess' category. The important thing is that the problems were fixed, and I'm sure DV will fix the Ascent issues as well. Just another example that jumping on a new vape design can be risky.

I feel for the good companies like DV, VXL and Arizer that spend a lot of time and money to design and produce something only to have it fucked up by manufacturing. All three of these situations were different, but the common theme was someone in the manufacturing process wasn't doing what they were told to do. The companies ended up wasting a ton of time and money and are lucky to still be able to turn a profit (assuming they still can).

I feel for companies that get screwed in manufacturing...but I guess that underscores the importance of having a rep with an eye on quality control. At the end of the day, someone has to be the reliable last set of eyes before a product is released to the public.

To be honest, I wasn't even in the vaping game when the Solo was first released...and hadn't even heard of fuckcombustion.com yet! I didn't realize that Arizer had to scramble to get things right at the beginning. I get it now.

It sure looks like DV worked a lot of overtime to correct these issues and I applaud them for that. They deserve some good luck after what they have been going through, for sure.

I sure am grateful that all these vaping options are available. Good times.

I had been using my Ascent for about a month without an issues, honestly love the thing. Then last night it decided it no longer wanted to heat past 81-84 degrees fahrenheit. Cleaned the bowl, the glass and that didn't seem to do much good. Contact DV got an RMA. Girl told me to wait a few days to send it out as they wont have units in stock for a couple of weeks. Curious if anyone else has had a similar issue with their unit. I plan on mailing mine ASAP since its not more than a paper weight at this point.

What do you all use to stop from getting a mouthful of bud? The only screens I could see in my packet was some little circle silver mesh ones that aren't even the right shape or size so they are difficult to place and remove.

After about a month of daily use without a screen, I have yet to get even a little herb in my mouth. I pack the bowl very tight and have a glass bead on top for a spacer. I mailed my stealth in today for a replacement (exposed wires). It will be missed!

The holes in the glass screen are pretty small. How fine is your grind?

Only problem I have had was when I occasionally go back to stir stuff, that breaks stuff down more and some of that might get through.

I do pack pretty hard (oil can make a good press), and lately I've kept glass on top, but even if I don't the stuff usually stays altogether in the bottom.

i think we have to wait for them to be delivered to customers first. i sent on original unit in very shortly after getting it (think my RMA number was 6) and i am still waiting for a new replacement unit. so i don't think DV has started shipping replacement units yet.[/quoteit]

why was it sent back in? sorry if you've stated already.

Surprisingly packing a small amount in the Ascent and using one of the provided oil canisters did a pretty good job.

I spoke with DV this Monday and learned that the YELP! Coupon cant be entered directly on their Website. "Make sure they reach out to customerservice@davincivaporizer.com to redeem these..or call Jessica."

On another note we did a Podcast with DV this week that looks to be going live within the next few days. We reviewed some of your concerns and got great feedback about the Ascent 1.1. The honesty and genuine nature of how DV admitted to the issues. And are doing right to the community by replacing faulty units really speaks a great deal to me as a customer.

Also, I'm excited with the upcoming tamper they will offer to reduce the bowl size. Upside down glass sombrero! And regarding the off gassing issues with uncured units. We were pleased to learn about DV bringing the silicone QC in-house. With the equipment to double cure the silicone boiling off any impurities and then doing additional testing on the silicone.

I did notice on the DV website stating that DV would not warranty units purchased at Buy.com and EBay!

Those of you who have used the Ascent and Solo- does the Ascent heat up the VAPE like the Solo does? I notice with the Solo, my throat gets very dry and parched. I'm really not enjoying it anymore, using my Extreme Q instead-but I do want a portie, and I'm getting excited about the Ascent!

VaporNation is not reliable seller?
I wonder if Da Vinci does not provide warranty for VaporNation's ascent.
Vapornation IS a reliable dealer. That doesn't mean they're currently on the approved list for the Ascent. It's a very short list at this time, and I'm sure that other good dealers, including Vapornation, will be OK'd by DV in the near future. Meanwhile, use the list linked by Reflections.

What do you mean by the VAPE? 'Vape', used as a noun, is the vaporizer. Used as a verb, it's the act of vaporizing. Let's not give the word so many meanings that it gets confusing.

All vaporizers heat up the herb that's loaded to the temp necessary to provide vapor, or the temp that's selected, if the model has variable temp. How hot it feels on your throat depends mainly on the temp you're using, how big the hit is, and how close your mouth is to the bowl. The Extreme has tubing or the bag to cool the vapor, so it's naturally going to be kinder to your throat. That's why so many vaporists go for water filtration, which you can also do with the Solo. With a pocket portable like the Ascent, used on the go, you'll have to control the harshness with draw speed, how much vapor you take in per hit, and temp setting. If you use in home, you can use water filtration as well.

Some good info there. I bought a small in line Aqua Vape to cool it down a bit. I rarely use now just found it a hassle and one thing i noticed in particular was water filtration takes away the taste which i dont like. Taste to me is part of the pleasure. I could never understand how water works with vapor/ I mean think about it, vapor is like steam in a bathroom right? How can "steam" go through water? I know it does but i dont really understand how it does? Does one lose any of the potent material, apart from taste, when it goes through water? I did find that when i first started vapeing that my voice went funny from a dry mouth. I still occasionally get a dry mouth and lose my voice a bit but no where near as much as when i first started. Another thing i found was when i introduced someone to vapeing for the first time they ALWAYS coughed when they first took on vapeing you would expect it to be less harsh then combustion. Ahh the wonders of vapeing.Ta

They're vaporized cannabinoids, they're hydrophobic, meaning they don't like sticking to water molecules. That's why you see little floating reclaim putties instead of them sinking. It's also why you can't just wash reclaim out with water.

Edit: sorry, didn't answer the rest of the questions lol. Some people say they notice a small decrease in potency when using water. I would assume the more filtration you get, the more the cannabinoids cool/condense. I don't go crazy with my water levels so I've never really noticed that. As for the coughing... yeah, it happens. That's a couple of things: the terpenes vape first, which are responsible for taste/smell. THC has a somewhat low vaping temperature, much lower than CBD. THC also has expectorant properties, which results in... coughing. Another expectorant you might be a bit more familiar with is Mucinex (guaifenesin). It's used for cold/flu symptoms, and it causes the mucus/phlegm in your lungs to get coughed out. THC does the same thing. And you're getting a fair bit more THC when you hit a vaporizer, especially compared to smoking (which destroys around 33% of flame-exposed cannabinoids due to high heat.)

Ok thanks a lot, very informative, do you do chemistry or something? Ta

Haha, no I don't. Having shit health sparked something in me to move towards a pharmacology career, but I'm just going through the basic stuff right now, if that. Haven't had any chem classes in damn near 3 years now, but I like "researching" drugs :brow: Cannabis in particular as a single drug is incredible to me, such diversity! One makes your seizure threshold go up (that's a good thing) and another can cause paranoia. I love knowledge, and it's fun when you can explain stuff to people and convey messages and growth.

Oh yeah, and it's all really fun to do when you're ripped out of your skull :D
